I wonder who decided to do it, GL or the studio. I say "both", but, as much as GL wants to do a good film, he has to make it like a 2-hour toys commercial. Money talks.

But that doesn't mean that was what he was thinking when he first made Star Wars. In Star wars the stormtroopers are different heights and builds and have different voices, they don't all speak with New Zealand accents like the Clones do, as I pointed out before most of the clones would have been killed in the clone wars and there would be a big lapse in soldier numbers while they waited for more to be created; logically they would start recruiting civilians. In AOTC the officers are clones, in Star Wars they are all different people. When Luke and Han diguise themselves as Stormtroopers this would not work if the stormtroopers were clones as they would stand out due to their different heights and their voices; all clones are supposed to be exactly the same. It just doesn't make any sense for the Stormtroopers in the OT to be clones. Maybe some of them could be clones, fair enough, but not all of them...

Yes, I can sense what's going on here... It's George "I don't care anymore" Lucas, changing his mind again. BTW, I doubt he even realized that the stormtroopers were originally different people.

"Mr. Lucas just one more question: are the stormtroopers all clones, or they are different people."
"What? Storm what? You mean Jar Jar?"
"Uh... No, I mean the stormtroopers? You know? Those soldiers... dressed in white armors..."
"I have no idea what you're talking about, but I belive the answer is: they are all clones."
"But both the original trilogy and the expanded universe says that they are actually different people."
"Insolense!! Blasphemy!! This press conference is over! Guard, kill 'em all!!"
"Mr. Lucas that's not a guard, that's my coat."

In 10-20 years time, GL will be dead, or retired and too old to even REMEMBER what star wars is. So don't worry.

Changes in 2004 DVDs
Time
Jesus, bigmikeisajedi, the way I see it, it's only a movie. We have the original trilogy in our hands, or should I say, on our VHS, laserdiscs and bootleg DVDs. We are not letting it die. The rest of them, let them buy the SE: ignorance is a bliss. They'll be happy, we'll try to be happy with all we have, and life goes on...

Still you could film a great fight scene using the right stunts, camera angles, photography tricks and wires, even in the pre-historical year of 1976. Have you ever seen a hong kong kung fu flick? I have eaten sandwichs that cost more than their entire movie budget; they did it mostly without computers, and still...

Now that Anakin married Padme, their life will be much more like a sitcon?

No, I wouldn't blame technological limits. Hong Kong movies could do that with shoestring budgets, back in the 70s. But that kind of fast-paced amazing action sequence wasn't "mainstream" in america cinema until the 90s, when the hong kong way of doing action sequences was "borrowed" by the american film industry. If GL wanted to make an action flick that didn't look "dated" or "boring", he had to do it that way. And just think about it: it would be laughable back in the 70s having Alec Guiness jumping and flying all over during his fight with Vader, but it's kinda "cool" and acceptable now.

I did, a long time ago, it's kinda cool.

If you thought that chernobyl site was shocking (and it was), check out this one: http://www.inicom.com/hibakusha/ - i've read them all 2 or 3 times each, and it always makes me sick to my stomach... And if that still dosen't make you hate nuclear war, I recomend movies like "Day After", "When the Wind Blows" and "Threads".

Albert Einstein once said "I don't know how World War 3 will be fought, but I know how the fourth one will: with sticks and stones."

Here's one way to make an impact....
Time
1- I'm amazed SW DVDs didn't leak to the internet yet. If they didn't, maybe they are not ready? If they are not ready, they are beeing changed? Hmmnn...

2- I remember reading about this film festival where they picked one movie from each decade, and they chose star wars to represent the 70s, and Lucasfilm didn't allow they to show the original version as they intended, only the SE version. My question is: did they ever get a copy of the original version film? If they did, couldn't we fans, by one way or another, make copies of that film? I know it's kinda illegal, I'm sure the original trilogy is also under copyrights laws, even not "existing anymore", but... it would be symbolic. Like... kidnapping the original film, and saying it would not be returned, and we would make copies of it, until they choose to listen to our demands. There would be a lot of publicity, and the average people, who dosen't even know there are differences between the 2 movies, would agree and come to our side.

3- ...or we could wait the 75 years until the original movie becomes public domain. In 2052 the party begins!

But this logic seems to have been abandon in the PT.

Ladies and gentleman, George "Plot Holes" Lucas! *applause* *cheers*

Perhaps he was watching a lot of hong kong action flicks between 1983 and 1999, and changed his mind... and who knows what happens inside that mind?

Ah, but Revenge of the Jedi (I prefer the "original" title) is better than AOTC.

what? no way could that title have survived if you look at what the film is about. yes the title is cool, but considering the plotline of the film, it cannot stay...

Ther's that story about how the name was leaked earlier to spot false merchandising, and GL saying that he changed it because "revenge is not something a jedi would do", but what the heck, I like that title, "Revenge of the Jedi", sounds a lot better than "return of the jedi", oh ok he returned yipee. But no, he had... a Revenge! Revenge is a dish best served cold!

And jimbo, I'm glad you enjoyed AOTC, I really am. I didn't like the prequels so much, but if there are true SW fans who really enjoyed it and say it's better than any other movies from the original trilogy, than it was worth it. I mean, it wasn't in vain, it's really part of SW now. And who knows, with time I'll learne to like this new trilogy too.

I belive it's kinda pointless to argue about what film is better, not because it's impossible to tell, but because opinions are just like watches and clocks. Everyone has its own, and we all belive our own watch is correct, but none are, some are a littlbe bit early, others a little bit late.

Lucas to give the Oscars back to the Academy

You see, both star wars and et were filmed in a crazy time called "late 70s early 80s", where senseless ultraviolence was a common practice, and human blood rushed through the streets. Back then it was a common practice for humans to shoot at aliens first (greedo, men with guns chasing et). But now we live in a peaceful, war-less time, where the mere THOUGHT of a gun being pointed to someone is absolutly outrageous. That's why I think we should bring Kubrick back to life, and make him release a Special Edition version of Clockwork Orange. Replace "singing in the rain" with "hey ya", replace Wendy Carlos soundtrack with Justin Timberlake. The writer's wife rapes Alex first. He is forced to watch Phantom Menace as part of the Ludovico treatment. Cover all the nudity with CGI clothes. Replace the phalic statue Alex uses to kill the cat lady with a giant walkie talkie.

About the "stormtroopers are clones" thing, did anyone here ever played the game Tie-Fighter? I had a friend that owned that game, and I remember reading some sort of fic that came with the game, in which two friends join the imperial army, one of them wants to fly tie-fighters, another one chooses to be a STORMTROOPER. But hey, this is George "plot holes" Lucas we're talking about.
