brazil's football team almost makes me wish i was brazilian. that and the babes.

but i'll stick with my underdogs.

speaking of underdogs, very poor performance for my team. i would blame it on inexperience, but i won't. lets just hope they get their act together for the next game. i want them to show that '02 wasn't a fluke.

Until this game, I never thought MLS was THAT detrimental to the US team. The passing and trapping looked like a typical MLS match, with routine traps going 5 -10 feet ahead of players and even simple passes between fullbacks going badly wide. Bruce Arena gets a pass. The players failed on the most fundamental levels. You can't mount an attack if you can't trap and pass.

DVD Player Recommendations
Time
personally, i'd wait until the end of this year if you are seriously thinking of getting an HD-DVD or Blu-ray player. rumours are a combo player will be released for around $650-ish. just do what I do. open a seperate savings account without her knowing and stash the money there. see no evil, hear no evil. when the time comes, get a good player. plus the HD players that are out now only support 720p. not enough for the price they are asking, imho.

now if you are looking for just a player that plays all regions without spending mondo dough, get one of those cheapo radioshack dvd players. i won one from work and it works dreamily. the price is only 30-40 bucks.

just a suggestion.

I love the optimism - but you've just made it twice as hard to get out of your group. Here's looking for McBride or Donovan to do a Cahill !

don't believe in superstition. but, as you know, anything's possible in the world cup.

i understand where you are getting at, ric. let me put my two cents in. I've never been a huge fan of american football. I'm more of a fan of the comeraderie that's associated with it, such as going to a bar with a bunch of friends and watching the game, or inviting a few friends over at your house. I think that's the main reason why i love boxing so much. it's all about skill, luck, and desire. who has the most usually becomes the victor, plus it makes for great television with a bunch of friends.

football/soccer/futbol is second only to boxing as far as me being able to watch it by myself. my wife enjoys it, but not to the extremes that i do. I'm from Puerto Rico. baseball is HUGE there. that's where i get my love for that game. football is also huge there. It's the carribean. different world. i can sit down and watch multiple games in a row. it is definitely not boring for me. My favourite memory of football was for the 02 world cup. i had 2 other roommates. one japanese and another russian. we were in college and taking summer courses. we went to class, ate, slept, then woke up at midnight. gathered the chips and dip and beer and got as boisterous as all get out. after the game, we went to class again. every night. alex (the russian) actually was fired because of missing work because of the cup. it didn't matter. we were having a great time. no one understood it. it's like a special club.

as far as having the spirit for it, i don't believe only europe and south america are the only ones. i believe the whole world is ecompassed with the spirit of the cup. except north america. oh well. their loss.

The US will make it all the way this year. i feel it in my bones. It's high time. but when they do win, america will still not be interested in the cup. i have come to accept that.

USA NEEDS to make 3 points against czech. it will put them in a much better chance when they go against italy and ghana. this first came is crucial for them to make it to the quarters. with ching getting 13 stitches, though, who knows what will happen. i'm sure LanDo will think of something.

btw, yiyf, i was doing the same thing this morning (drinking hot tea) watching the england game. felt damn good, considering i got strep.
