ROTJ "Pre-film Training" Edit (* unfinished project* - lots of info)
Time

Here’s my ideal opening for ROTJ. It’s from the “wish list” thread and is now 6 years old, but… here it is. I hope you can follow.

Opening text would have to be altered to mention that Luke has returned to Dagobah to continue his training.

After opening text, we pan down to Darth Vaders Super Stardestroyer near the uncompleted Death Star.

Cut to Darth Vader in his mediation chamber talking to Luke telepathically through the force urging him to join him on the darkside.

cut to the deleted scene of Luke in the cave working on his new light saber. Edit the exterior of the cave to resemble Dagobah. Luke shakes the voice in his head and continues working and then igniting his saber.

Cut back to the Super Stardestroyer and we see Vader’s shuttle leave for the Death Star (why was he leaving from a standard Stardestroyer originally?) continue to the original opening scene with Vader and Jerrod.

After that, cut to Yoda’s hut on Dagobah for Yoda’s death scene. After Luke says “So I am a Jedi.” Cut Yoda’s line about having to face Vader again and just cut to him saying “When gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be.” This way we get the idea that Luke has continued and now finished his training with Yoda. Yoda dies then cut to the Emperors arrival on the Death Star then back to Dagobah for the Obi-Wan scene, then on to Tatooine.

This would give the beginning of the film a more menacing tone with Vader still haunting Luke and more of a build up to the action at Jabba’s palace.

I know some feel that this opening would drag and be boring, but at this point the audience should be invested in the characters and story enough for this to be interesting. It certainly is to me.

And as for Luke showing up late to the briefing, footage would need to be altered so that he’s already there. (the “I’m with you too!” moment is corny anyways.) His moment with Leia (“What’s wrong?” “ask me again sometime.”) should be before the briefing begins.
As for the deleted footage of Luke in the cave not being HD and looking terrible next to the other footage… Yeah, I dunno.

Do intentionally cheesy spoof covers for intentionally cheesy spoof movies (like Hot Shots!) count as bad?

He even has two pairs of sunglasses in the first photo!

I think that fits the spirit of the film and is probably intentional (or maybe even in the original photo).
It’s not funny, but neither was the movie.

I haven’t had time to go through every comment yet, but here are a few things that WON’T be happening in ROTJ:R -

Extra Boba Fett / Boba Surviving - Boba is going to die ( someone already guessed the one way i’m planning on killing him 😉 )

Unless I missed a guess, that narrows the guesses down to one.
And if that’s true, then that’s an ambitious change and I can’t wait to see it in action 😃

I think you’ve already seen it. Like father, like son. : (
I hope I’m wrong.
I’m also hoping that this is this films version of “There won’t be any AT-STs in ESB:R” ; )

I only have one suggestion for this, but I think it improves the film greatly:
Start the film with Luke on Dagobah
It just makes so much more sense

Do you have friends?
How long would you let them hangin on a wall? Weeks? Month? If they survive that long at all.

Luke’s waiting to hear from Lando before he does anything. This is set up at the end of ESB.
In the meantime, nothing’s stopping him from going back to Yoda and it makes more sense that he would.
You can click the link in my sig for my ideal opining to ROTJ.

Oh, come on.
How long does it take to find Jabba?
How long does it take to sell him some spice at an unreasonably low price, and offer him more, where this came from?
How long does it take to see that Han is hanging on the wall?
How long does it take to make a “phone call”?
Actually I don’t think Luke has even time to recover properly.

The movie disagrees with you. But that’s ok.

No it does not.
But that’s ok.

There are several things in the movie that let’s the audience know that some time has passed.
Luke’s demeanor is very different, showing a shift in his character and maturity since we last saw him. He’ built a new lightsaber. That means hes tracked down the how-to guide and all the parts n pieces. Maybe you can do that in an evening, but I’m doubting it. He’s wearing Jedi robes/outfit indicating that he’s become more involved in the Jedi ways.
Lando has infiltrated Jabbas palace to the point that he can walk around there freely and seems to have some sort of guard job. Luke & Co. knew where Han was being taken, but it’s not a place you can just walk into and do as you please. It would take time to work your way in and be accepted as part of the gang. That don’t happen overnight either.
Yoda has gotten very weak and is about to die. No signs of that last time we saw him.

Just my thoughts. It’s cool if you disagree.

Well he attempted to make it scarier with the added glow; just thought there might be an alternative way in doing so.

I liked your suggestion of the needle slowly extending out as the probe droid comes towards us…but having been lucky enough to get a preview pic a while back, I can confirm that adywan’s latest (still under wraps) version is FANTASTIC and a really satisfying improvement.

Oooh nice!

Interestingly it’s appeared in various other places, like videogames from the acceptable Rogue Squardon titles (I forget if the third included it outside co-op) to the almost unplayable Rebel Assault. On film I think the nonsensical ending to ROTJ SE is the only example. They still producd a whole bunch of toys anyway of course.

I’m surprised Kenner never made one back in the day, as they started making vehicles like the Imperial Troop transporter, which never appeared on screen. Then again, with the exception of the die cast mini, we never got a Y-Wing until the ROTJ line.

Yeah, the skyhopper didn’t see fruition until the Power of the Force line. I ended up with two of them thanks to a flood.

Did the flood wash one outta the neighbors house and into yours?

doesn’t it make just as much sense for him to have resolved the mission he set himself on before returning to Yoda?

But, again, Lando and Chewie are the ones who took off on the mission to find Han. Luke opted out saying "call me when you find him."
It just makes sense that in the meantime he would return to Yoda. Charging off again after failing last time makes it seem like he didn’t learn anything from his previous failures.
