the iconic scene
Which scene is that?
the iconic scene
Which scene is that?
Never would have noticed; never won’t again.
Ha! Same!
Still, I think we all agree that the shield-dish explosion is one of the best explosions ever.
Makes me smile every time.
How would you handle shots where small fighters fly in front of the Death Star? Rotoscope around them, replace the models, or leave those shots as-is?
I’d either rotoscope around them, replace the models or leave those shots as-is.
😉
Really, there’s just a few location establishing shots where the DS seems to be a static 2D image.
Those shots would really benefit from some subtle movement and also some visible construction going on.
The rough example of the space battle shows some further potential as well.
Here is a broad test.
That’s amazing!
Used subtlety, I bet that’d be a very nice enhancement.
My thoughts exactly.
I don’t see how anyone can say it isn’t an effective film.
I totally agree. As far as “scary”… I dunno. I’m a 38 year old man. Monsters aren’t real and the movie’s not gonna jump out n’ grab me. But seeing the horror happen to innocent people and through the eyes of a helpless, unbelieving mother… I just don’t see how anybody can say it’s not an effective movie. A horrifying story well told and well executed.
Already home. Bad vibes at the watering hole. Nothing distinct, but oppression and persecution seemed to be everywhere.
Sounds like a very brief (and inexpensive) ride to me!
Seemed to take forever and I dunno how much it cost. But I got a feeling that your post went over my head and even my pompadour wasn’t quite high enough to catch it. The blame is certainly my own. Shame, is the name.
I’m forced to take the high road.
Every fiber of my being doubts this.
will you be restoring Leia’s reaction shot before Alderaan’s destruction? Much like the Tarkin shot at the end of the film, it adds some much-needed emotion to the scene.
When I first showed up on this site (about 10 years ago) I voiced that my only problems with the Revisited version were the the removal of the reactions shots of Leia (Alderaan), 3PO (R2) and Tarkin (Death Star). I don’t have the message handy, but I’ve been assured by the man himself that he intends to restore all three.
[JEDIT: I haven’t watched AHN:R in several years & had forgotten that Leia’s reaction was cut.]
Lower-ranking Imperial officers were generally cast with American accents; they just didn’t really show up in ESB
ESB gives us the classic “Skah Wahlker has jus’ landed muh Lord”
Sounds like a redneck from my neck of the woods.
I dunno if I agree with your “lower ranking” idea, but.
Clocks in.
What the hell do the rest of you do on weekends?
I truly curious.
Also, looks like I’ll be takin uber tonight. I’m still at home.
I wish Bingowings was still around.
[JEDIT: Wrong thread.]
Unpopular suggestion: can Ady cut the crying rancor keeper? I’ve hated it since I first watched the film and its removal would help reduce the bloat of the Jabba section.
Might not be as unpopular as ya think. I hate it too.
Almost anything you hear on the soundtrack referring to Jabba the Hutt doesn’t exist in the movie. I do wonder if there’s a way to get all of that music back in the film - and there’s a lot of it - without it feeling cut-up and disrupted.
I’d love to see that happen. I love the theme for Jabba.
The show The Boondocks uses it for the character Uncle Ruckus.
New slower version. https://mega.nz/#!acsDjCYL!gQoGGPf4xwWMvGe1XKGMKi86g3KXklZmTP9uS-FTUE0
Ok, I haven’t said anything, 'cause I didn’t wanna be a buzz kill. None of the other versions sounded natural to me. The different sources were clear to hear and the phrasing just didn’t work…
But this version is getting close to something I could fully support! Very cool!
Still needs another beat between “Mother” and “once”.
Link’s Awakening tomorrow.
Cant wait!
Absolutely loving it.
^To me, it doesn’t stand out anymore than the rest of the foreground-trash.
Especially in motion, where the white droid is rotating it’s head, drawing attention.
I love how the HD version is looking, especially the new canyon matte, but just out of curiosity why was it so important for some people to have the battle droid head included in that scene?
For the ones who like the PT, it’s a nice bit of continuity between the trilogys.
For those who don’t like the PT, it’s possibly an in-joke about the PT being trash.
I’m just of the opinion that the shot looks better with something filling that visual void.
The new sandcrawler shot is beautiful!
Everything looks great!
I doubt it, as he says he got it from a friend.
He also doesn’t use the term “Despecialized Edition”, but it’s clearly what he’s describing.
He also takes jabs at the Special Edition.

Mostly talkin’ classic horror. Great listen if ya like that.
Star Wars talk starts at 8:04 (Galaxy’s End, seeing SW for the 1st time)
Despecialized mentioned at 10:01
Rob Zombie owns and loves the Despecialized Editions!
He brings it up in an interview with Joe Rogan.
Makes me happy.
SRT is…
SUP is…
^^ what he said.
Thanks for the info, guys!
any plans to go back to ANH and implement the SC38 reimagined fight by FXitinPost?
(probably slowing it down a bit to fit the pacing)
I’m so ready for this question to die.
SC38 is awful.
Link’s Awakening tomorrow.
Cant wait!
ENDER!!! AAHH!!!
I’m so happy, I haven’t even read your post yet!
Off tomorrow & I am drinking rum, I am.
Cheers!
Oh speaking of the DSII, Ady: I had always preferred the original DS even though the second “looks cooler” but, when ever I watch ROTJ it just doesn’t seem right. And I finally think I know why, its a 2D picture. I don’t how they managed to go from effects as stunning as those from ANH - which brought a giant space ball to life - to something as awful as what is in ROTJ but hey they did it. What puzzles me most, is that the DSII does actually have a physical model, but for some unfathomable reason they only shot if from one angle for the whole movie, and proceeded to just copy/paste it to every shot.
So idk whether you can do anything about this or if there a DSII models (3D or physical) out there or any or some other footage that can be composited to work but if you can, could you give it that same subtle spin that the DSI had and just in general fix some inconsistencies with the angles of it in relation to Endor and the fleets?
Hope the edits going well!I tried turning a still of the Death Star into “3D” using a displacement map to make it look like it was turning slowly and it seems like it could be pretty convincing.

Hey, that’s cool. Very well done.
