The unavoidable fact is Vader is not played by Prowse in some of the key moments of the original trilogy and so few people noticed that Mark Hamill felt compelled to break the illusion.

True. It's James Earl Jones who can't be replaced. I've never heard an impersonator and bought into it.

The only problem I have with the space slug is that it doesn't look like a cave in the slightest.

It takes Solo a while to figure it out and Leia defends the initial cave hypothesis right up to the end but the mouth doesn't look like a row of stalactites and stalagmites.

It makes our heroes seem a bit dumb.

As for the "it's a film made in the 70's" defense that holds true for a preservation.

I have no problem watching Harmy's versions and noticing the craft used making a film with almost as much vintage as myself (Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom was a screw up when it was made but ESB was the cutting edge of effects and it's few flaws are part of the historical experience of watching the film as released in 1980).

For a special edition I have no problem with changing the creature to make it look more like something that might be mistaken for a cave and less like a puppet.

That's what special editions are for.

This all the way!

Ady has said he is happy with what he has done so far I can't see a major reworking as a feature of this project.

Oh... Thought there was gonna be a new miniature slug mouth.. or something... No? I'm not good with the forums search feature and I'm not gonna go digging through hundreds of pages, but I thought that was discussed a long time ago on a page far far away...

Any chance you'll be fixing the green-to-red shirt color change that was just found? [...] I know it's a small change, but it is a change, it did look better green and it'll stick me in the eye every time now.

No criticism intended, but this is exactly why Harmy begged upthread for people to post complaints, details or ongoing flaws in private PMs only.

In general, the chances of getting something changed at this point are much slighter than the chances of just hurting everyone's enjoyment--much as the shirt knowledge has done for you...

Well, he said in the following post he would try to fix it and now he has in fact fixed it, so I don't think I was out of line in any way. Sorry, Harmy, if I was.

Great job on the shirt-color-change fix, Harmy! Looks great!

I'm not seeing the 'rip'. I know its a puppet but I'm use to it.

It dosen't rip, but the fabric the puppet is made from ripples as it rolls over the crater edge. It's never really bothered me, I just see it as the creatures loose skin. But I'm pretty sure Ady had some plans for this..

...I found a few other things I want to fix anyway (they are the sort of thing that I wouldn't have bothered with if this didn't happen like slight colour inconsistencies and such but this gives me an opportunity to fix them). It will unfortunately mean another delay of the release but I'm still hoping I could be releasing sometime this week.

Any chance you'll be fixing the green-to-red shirt color change that was just found? I know you said you wouldn't stop rendering to fix such a small thing, but now that you have to render again anyway is it something you'd be willing to do? I know it's a small change, but it is a change, it did look better green and it'll stick me in the eye every time now.

Dracula Restoration: Thoughts?

...but either way it's a "fix" I don't mind as I'm sure it wasn't supposed to be that way ever. Of course, if it was that way in it's original form, one could say that they are making changes. But I'd call it restoration.

I think our definition of restoration definitely differs then. To me, it's like when special effects wires or crew accidentally show up in movies. They weren't supposed to be there, but they ended up there anyway. It'd be revisionist to clean up, as it doesn't represent the original version of the films. In essence, my stance is if it's due to the wear of time, fix it, but if it was always there, leave it be.

No, no. What I mean is that I don't think the sound error was there originally, and so I wouldn't consider it a change, but a restoration of how it was originally presented.

I think captainsolo has just talked me out of considering purchasing this boxed set.   I want Dracula treated right.

captainsolo, what do you mean by the original ending?  How does it differ from the ending that had been in the movie? Which ending was shown in theaters in 1931?

Originally, after the end of the film, there was a message delivered to the audience by a man in a tuxedo, like in the opening of Frankenstein. I think that's probably what Capt.Solo is referring to. He warns the audience to remember the film they've just seen because "THERE ARE SUCH THINGS!" Very cool.

Was it always in error of speed for the English version? Like from 1931, or was that wear and tear?

I dunno about that... but either way it's a "fix" I don't mind as I'm sure it wasn't supposed to be that way ever. Of course, if it was that way in it's original form, one could say that they are making changes. But I'd call it restoration.

...They didn't make clear that the "Swan Lake" in the 1931 Spanish version was the same recording without the speed issues; it could possibly have been another recording.

I'm sure it would be. The Spanish version was filmed alongside the US version with all the same sets, many of the same costumes and even most of the same sound effects. I don't see anything happening here that isn't a part of a proper restoration. Can't wait for the Universal Monsters Blurays!

To prove a point. Please give me as many reasons and character comparisons as to why Star Wars is better than Star Trek.
Time

The only Star Trek I saw much of while growing up was Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. Both were beyond dull. Characters so bland and dialog so stiff I've always wondered what attracts anybody to the franchise. I saw the Original Motion Picture when I was about 10 and it was the first time I saw a film in which the special effects shots were what bored me out of the film. Shots of the Enterprise floating through space at a snails pace and seemed to last hours. Recently I've checked out the original series and found it much better. Very groovy and full of retro cool. I'm actually kinda excited to check out more!

So, for me, Star Wars is better because of the 'real' and interesting characters and effects that dazzle rather than bore. Also a story and characters that are identifiable and exciting are much better than a story and characters that are unrelateable and dull.

it's all opinions.

I myself was pleasantly surprised to learn that the elephant thing was merely a mask that was worn by one of our giant, white creators. Now I'm starting to sound sarcastic. But I'm really not.

Same here. I thought it was a very interesting little twist.

I never imagined the Space Jockeys to be anything other than what they were shown to be in Alien. I'll bet, back in the day, that Scott didn't either.

I'm guessing Scott didn't give it too much thought at the time. But so what? is that supposed to be a strike against either film?

Then why'd they staple the skin, just cauterize it with the magic 2089 laser.  My imagination says that when you cut completely thru some organ, the laser cauterizing trick doesn't work, the staples action says the writers believe that as well, but phuck it we've gotta keep this thing moving.

It stapled her tummy back together to keep her organs from falling out. You can't sew something together with a laser, only cut it apart. It wasn't set up for a female, so it wouldn't have known to staple the uterus back up anyway.
