Permission to speak candidly?
Time

That list of "50 reasons..." was brought up by Harmy because someone wanted to know what some people didn't like about ROTJ besides the ewoks and Fetts goofy death. I made a fairly large post de-bunking and defending the film against some of those "50 reasons..".

ROTJ is a good movie in my mind. I don't mind others disagreeing, and I see flaws with it as well, but I still love it. Opinions can differ from person to person, and we are not all idiots simply because we don't all think alike. I get really tired of people who tell me I'm stupid for enjoying ROTJ, or even for enjoying the PT

Nobody over there called anybody "stupid" or suggested anyone was a "idiot" for liking ROTJ.

you also have to consider that it's written a bit tongue-in-cheek, so the stuff like "sexually charged scenes" is probably meant as a bit of a hyperbole to make a point that it's just a bad idea to make Leia Luke's sister.

Yeah, you're right. But I hear this kind of thing quite a bit. "EEEW! Luke was all makin' out with his SISTER!!" Which never happened... I mean, yeah it's a bit awkward that Luke obviously thought she was hot, but... she was. So there :P

I was joking. I know he didn't actually take Han's clothes - they're standard fare for Corellians.

So, ALL Corellians wear the same thing? Lame. I've always assumed that they were in fact Hans clothes. Lando didn't have time to pack a bag before fleeing the city, so it makes sense that he would go through Hans closet for something clean to wear.

if the Ewoks, Boba Fett's death and Lando aren't considered as the main issue, then I'm not sure what would be.

This, with a few exceptions...

1. Ewoks, Ewoks, Ewoks – I like the role they play in the story, so I don't hate the idea here, but they look SO FAKE! And the physical comedy is just embarrassing.

12. Threepio – The article says that Han & Co. bring him along for no reason, but this isn't true. He's a translator and he proves himself very useful.

14. Luke – I totally disagree with the article here. Mark Hamil is the best thing in Jedi.

15. Surprise! They’re Brother and Sister! - It's a horrible plot device, but the talk of "sexually charged scenes" in the previous two movies is bullshit. She kissed Luke in ANH "for luck" she kisses him in Empire to make Han jealous and neither scene is remotely "sexually charged". Anybody who watches the films and sees a "love triangle" situation probably doesn't do to well with the ladies. It's clear from the shoot out in the cell block on that Leia has no interest in Luke and finds Han very attractive.

20. Boba Fett’s Death – I said earlier that i have no problem with Fett's death. What I should have said was "I have no problem with Fett dying." I do however find his "comedic" death terribly stupid and embarrassing.

35. Vader’s Real Face – Love Sebastian. The article is wrong on this one. Just plain old wrong.

49. The WIZARD OF OZ Homage at Jabba’s Front Door – I've never bought this idea. It's always seemed to me to be referencing North American speakeasys during prohibition. Give the secret knock, the little window slides open and an eye peers out to make sure you're recognized and have the password. ROTJ has a very cool sci-fi take on that.

Other things that the article doesn't point out is the SE song and dance in Jabbas palace and "Yub-Nub". Again, just embarrassing.

I've used the word "embarrassing" several times here. But it's these moments that make me realize that I don't want anybody who hasn't seen Star Wars to pop in Jedi saying "Ray has turned me on to other good movies, I'll give this a spin!"

I do like Jedi, but it's very flawed.

^That's a great idea, Burdokva! It may be late in the game, but I'd rather see the release date (which is non-existent) be pushed back and this idea used in ESB:R. That way Ady can also use it in ANH:R-HD and ROTJ:R so it's uniform through the Revisited trilogy.

Original

EMPEROR: You may rise, my servant.

VADER: What is thy bidding, My Master?

EMPEROR: There is a grave disturbance in the Force.

VADER: I have felt it.

EMPEROR: Our situation is most precarious. We have a new enemy who could bring about our destruction.

VADER: Our destruction? Who?

EMPEROR: The son of Skywalker. You must destroy him...or he will be our undoing.

VADER: He's not a Jedi, he's just a boy. Obi-wan could not have taught him so much that...

EMPEROR: You are weak! I have seen it. The Force is strong with him. He must be destroyed.

VADER: But, if he could be turned, he would be a powerful ally.

EMPEROR: Yes...yes. That would be a great asset.

VADER: He will join us or die, my master.

Where did you get this from? 'Cause that's not how the dialog went in the original cut of the film.

My problem with the original Wampa scene is that it's a lot less effective without any of the rest of the Wampa footage. Instead of a constant, creepy and mysterious menace on Hoth, we just get two scenes of something we never see. It's rather unsatisfactory and ruins the intended effect.
I think of it like the swamp creature that eats R2. It's just a danger of alien planets, not a plot point.

Yeah. The original version left you to think of what the Wampa looked like. We had only seen a face arm shot, and a little later a shot of the face and chest covered by the arms. Only about 35% of the full thing. I don't ever remember seeing any shots of the Wampa on any poster, or books. So it was a mystery until the SE came out.

Joke recognition fail.

And the new wampa shots were not needed and ruined the suspense and mystery of the scene.

This change is very interesting compared to the rest of the SE. First, they had originally planed to fully show the wampa in ESB, but they scraped the footage because the suit looked fake. 2nd, compared to every other SE shot, the new effects look ok and blend with the "look" of the movie. This is one of the few big changes that doesn't want to make me scream when I see it. However, ultimately the change does screw with the suspense of the shot and it works better when you can't see the wampa. Ady's edit should totally have the original editing to the scene but show the full wampa after his arm is cut off. Does anyone know what he plans to do with that shot?

I'll admit that of all the big changes, it's the one I enjoy the most... hate the least, whichever way ya wanna look at it. I do like that it was done using physical effects instead of cgi. Adywan has built a brand new wampa to fix continuity errors, but is cutting the scene back to the original edit I believe.

It's also supposed to connect to the moment in AOTC when boba fett hits his head. I think George wanted it to look like an intentional thing that was cloned into the troops. Lame.

George is full of himself.

True dat.

The new Tampa scenes really warm up an otherwise kind of frigid movie.
