Snoke is a goofy name, but not as goofy as other Star Wars characters that I (and probably you) already love.
Boba Fett... Bib ForTuna... Snoke sounds like Shaft in comparison.
"Supreme Leader" has a cool old school sci-fi feel to it. I like it. And like others has said, it's likely we won't hear his actual name mentioned often, if at all.

Design failures (and successes) of the PT

The general Podracer design was cool. It was a fully relatable update of the familiar chariot of ancient times. If other things in the PT had the same echoes of real world stuff it would have been better IMO (e.g. Han was a cowboy).

I agree, the podracers were fantastic! I liked all of them and the sound design for each one was great.
The cartoon pilots were lame, but the machines were awesome.

If the film makers are willing to throw reality that far out the window in the opening shot, I'm out.
Leaving that early into the film guarantees I'll get my money back and still have two hours of free time. Seems like a good deal to me.

Actually, I'm sure I'll already know how the movie opens before going to see it.

...I can only assume the saber itself contains something important.

That's the rumor. Something is hidden inside.
There's also the rumor that the film will open with Luke's severed hand floating through space still clutching the saber handle. I'll walk out if that happens.

I'm with ya, but I've become a bit of a Thomas when it comes to Star Wars...

Terminator 2 (1991): Hands of Fate (2013)

Terminator 2 is a masterpiece, one of the greatest sequels ever, and one of the few movies I'm willing to rewatch these days.  This time I watched an updated HD version of ThrowgnCpr's fanedit, which creates a hybrid of the Theatrical and the SE, and removes the cheesy "humor." You can read more about it here and my review here.

Damn! looks like somebody beat me too it!
I've had an edit I made of T2 setting on my hard drive for two years and my intentions are the same as Hands Of Fate. Been waiting to update my edit in HD using TeamBlu's version before releasing it.
I'm curious to see how similar and how different they are. Looks like he kept more in than I did.

If any change was to be made, my vote would be to have the spider standing still for the first few moments, looking like a rooted plant, then become more animated as the shot progresses. (from McQuarries paintings, that's how I always imagined they'd have been introduced in the film)

I like this idea.  They do this effectively a few times in The Dark Crystal.

 Glad ya like it.

All the other ideas to change this shot seem overly complicated.
The main reason I made this suggestion is because based on the creature design and the original artwork, I always figured it was meant to seem like a strange plant before it starts moving.
It standing still a bit also goes with Monroville's idea that the crash would startle the creatures. The spider has no reason to run though when it can just stand still and hide (also, based on the large size of that thing, I get the impression it's not scared by much). Once the shock of the crash fades, the spider goes back to doing what it was doing.

The idea is hardly new: in The Last Command, the clone of Luke was grown from the chopped hand, and used Luke's first lightsaber.

Luke's hand was said to be one of the Emperor's prized specimens held at the Wayland facility.  Presumably it and the lightsaber were retrieved from Bespin so that Palpatine could make an evil clone version of Luke if he failed to turn the real one to the dark side.

LAME!

You think it's bad, how do you think Yutani felt about it?

I think he was glad they left him out of it.

The saber (and hand) didn't have to fall down the same shafts Luke did. It looks like the massive air currents affect Luke's fall in ESB, so the saber could end up elsewhere and caught on something.

Hmm... I got the idea that all those air shafts end up leading outside.
I suppose it could have caught on something, but the idea of someone finding it seems very unlikely to me. Not sure I can buy into it, but we will see...
I just hope the rumors of the movie opening with Lukes hand still clutching the saber handle and floating through space are false!

I don't understand the point of this thread. Then again, I don't understand the point of "yo mama" jokes in general. (For the most part) their sole purpose is to insult people. I don't think insulting people is wise...when there isn't any good reason to do so (which I may unfortunately be guilty of, but even then I hope I never went too far).

Frink, what do you have against your mother that people make crude jokes around her?

I don't even know what to do with this post.

I remain unconvinced by his username.

LCD TV Questions

nadcraker said:

Hi all, I'm looking to buy an LCD television for my bedroom very soon, but I have some questions. I've been reading a lot about HD and it's varied resolutions. But I see televisions with 1280x720, and some have 1280x768. As I understand it, 720p is 720 lines, and is an HD standard. How will this apply to a screen with a native resolution of 1280x768?

Also, can anyone recommend a 16x9 LCD at around 20"? I tried out a 27" and it was way too big for my little room. Thanks guys (and girls, and Gundarks)

The idea with the shadow or fog is that it would only hide the creature for the first few moments of the shot, putting the focus on the x-wing, and then the spider would emerge into view as the shot continues.

If any change was to be made, my vote would be to have the spider standing still for the first few moments, looking like a rooted plant, then become more animated as the shot progresses. (from McQuarries paintings, that's how I always imagined they'd have been introduced in the film)

Also, that's a pretty nifty idea in your mock-up up there, Ronster.
