I love TFA and I still do. Nothing’s gonna change that. But Mike makes good points.

I think that’s what they were going for with this one. He even says that TFA is a well made, fun adventure film. And admits that many of his complaints are simply nitpicks. I do LOVE his ideas for reworking the story though!
Dom, you should watch his PT reviews. I don’t like a few of his off-topic tangents (many are funny though), but the review content is spot on and hilarious.

I like Max von Sydow’s performance, Harris Yulin’s performance, the courtroom scene, the ghost train scene, the flying nanny ghost scene, and the ghost Titanic scene too much to possibly dismiss them all.

^Example of remarks to dislike.
I’ll give Ghostbusters 2 one thing: “Everything you’re doing is very bad. I want you to know this.” That line is funny. But it’s not nearly enough to save the rest of the film. It’s also a perfect comment on the film itself.

In this age of 4K & widescreen TVs, laserdisc quality is the best we will ever get for decades to come.

You keep saying this even though you know it’s not true.

Please stop posting until you have something new to say.

What if I’m right ten years down the road, and we’re stuck with substandard non anamorphic dvds that are 35 years out of date?

We already have better options available right now. In 10 years, even without an official release, we will have even better options.

Random Thoughts

I wish there was a show like MST3K but instead of only mocking the films there was a healthy dose of appreciation and some background info on the films they show.
I like the MST3K format, but I’ve always hated that they can only point and laugh. They never give any context for the circumstances in which these films were made and that alone would go a long way in changing the perception the viewer has toward the movie.
But, appreciation is for stupid old people and entertainment should be aimed at pre-teens at all times. These are facts.

Alien 3 (1992)

People bag on this film all the time, but I still think it’s pretty good. It has great acting, a passable story, some great suspense, and characters that I like. Ripley is further developed, and once more Sigourney Weaver is outstanding, I’d probably say that she gives her best performance as Ripley in this film. Clemens and Dillon are other standouts, and are both likable and deep characters. The Xenomorph is made threatening again, after being watered down in Aliens. The deaths of Newt, Hicks, and Bishop are a common complaint, but I think it was a good idea, and it introduces the theme of no one being safe, which is seen throughout the films, as all the characters die, including Ripley. It does have flaws, like being a slightly worse version of the original films story, and some plot holes and contrivances, but I really like it regardless. Also, I’m reviewing the theatrical cut, I’ve yet to see the extended Assembly Cut.

7/10

I’m with ya! I actually might rank it a little higher, maybe an 8/10. I really like the theatrical cut of Alien3 and think the Assembly Cut is way inferior, but I don’t think I know anybody who agrees with me.
The change to the alien’s host makes no sense based on the design used for the creature. The way it moves, it’s size and it’s stance all say it came from a dog. And the original set up was great with the dog digging through the wreckage and finding the creature. The dog and his owner were well established characters. The owners death has a bit of tragic irony with him thinking he’s found his friend only to find his friend isn’t what it used to be. That’s gone in the Assembly Cut. Changing the host to a random Ox with no connection to anything or anyone else is weak and the thing doesn’t look or act like I imagine an Ox/Alien hybrid would.
Anyways, I think Alien3 is a great end to the franchise.
