4K restoration on Star Wars

Just an idea, but do we think it’s worth telling them exactly what we would want to see included in an ideal release?

What I’m picturing would mirror the Blade Runner set rather closely, with the final version (plus a few “final” surprises if that rumor about Han shooting first again has any weight) on disc one and the unaltered version on disc three. For ANH, the '81 crawl should be branched in as an option on the unaltered disc.

The middle disc could be the '97 version (timed to how it actually looked in '97) with the '04 and '11 edits branched in. The '04/'11 changes are few and far enough between that I feel like they could be easily branched if the disc is primarily the '97 version. It would provide interesting historical context like the three different versions of the Krayt dragon call, Boba Fett’s voice, different Emperor hologram and cgi Jabba, and Luke’s scream in ESB.

I’d settle for just the '97 version’s inclusion without '04 and '11 but I really do think '97 should be there. It’s the version that started this whole debate in the first place and it was shown in theaters in a major re-release.

But, is that what we want?
I just want the theatrical trilogy. I don’t care what they do with the other versions.
If I have to buy this big package just to get the three I want, that’s ok, but I think adding that to the list of demands is clouding the real issue.

George Lucas - your opinions of him? a general discussion thread

Are the people here of the opinion that George was never talented, or do you guys think it’s more of a Francis Ford Coppola situation where he just lost his touch?

The second. Star Wars is a fine film. It is often said that it was saved in editing, and that the first cut was terrible, but I simply can’t picture the editors turning a really bad film into the one we know today. If anything, post-production enhanced material that was already in place.

You should take a look at what was chopped out of the original. There aren’t many deleted scenes to view right now, but just reading about what was cut… I’d say the film was saved by Marcia Lucas during editing.
George is great at ideas, but needs people to help steer. That’s not a slam against Lucas at all. I think it’s been pretty well documented that Lucas realized this himself and that’s why he took a step back for ESB. Then production difficulties forced him to resume some of the duties during ROTJ. By the mid 90’s I think his hubris got the better of him and he started to believe his own hype.

I know what horror comedy is and I hated Drag Me To Hell. The cgi is terrible. Never at any point is it slightly convincing which is distracting and kills every scene. The characters and acting are all horrible. It isn’t funny. It isn’t freaky. It’s dumb and it’s dull and it looks like crap.
Cheers, everybody!

Some long time users have no avatar either. 😉

Hmm… well, I just can’t trust a faceless account.
I was very happy to see Disco_Lobot add one, as I liked the posts, but couldn’t handle the blank face.

Wish my old idea of generic default trooper avatars had been taken up.

Why was it shot down?

I was among the no avatar users for a while as well

But now you have one. And now you’re my friend.
Was it worth it?
(say “Yes” or don’t answer at all. I can’t take the rejection.)

The Unofficial Complete REVISITED SAGA Ideas and Random Discussion Thread
Time

We have no idea how long it took the DS to reach Yavin.
There was obviously some time that passed as the Rebels had to study the DS plans to find the flaw. Also, Luke was fitted with a flight suit, helmet and assigned to a group and given a call sign. And I’d like to think he had some time in an x-wing cockpit to see how the controls worked (how to access the targeting computer, locking/unlocking the s-foils, switching from lasers to missiles, ect.) before taking off. So, we know that some time has passed since they arrived. In my head, it was 2 or 3 days. And the DS moves slow.
