1977 UK theatre intro reconstruction (Released)
Time

great job.

good fun!

The only things that didn't seem right to me were:

-)the butterkist  and Express ads looked like late 60s

-)the star wars ad was US. The brits had their own voice-over actor versions.

-) There could have been more in-house cinema continuity, such as voice-overs explaining what was available to buy in the foyer, etc.

-)the CEOTTK trailer didn't match the quality of the rest.

but overall, I liked it!

Love this.

I made one of the BBFC certificates, too (except mine has film scratches)

Out of interest, what fonts did you use?

And do you have a hi-res or vector of the signatures?

ads:I'd be tempted to go with

-) Kia-Ora orange juice in the square cartons (not the cartoon 80s ad).

-) There should also be at least one 'local' ad for either a restaurant (Indian would be the classic) or a DIY store. These were usually cheaply made with still photos and voice over.

-) an ad describing the ice creams that can be bought in the foyer or from the the people who came around with trays during the interval

-) A cigarette ad

-) A information screen/film that explains there is only smoking on one side of the auditorium.

-) A lyons Maid ice cream or Zoom lolly ad

-) a short public information film warning kids not to play on railways tracks or near electricity substations

-) a short movie preview (for something like a Bond movie or Herbie, like you said.)

It's also crucial to get the muffled speaker click/scratch/jump in between each ad as well as the image jolting slightly.

here are some more samples:

(this one has good authentic sound)

I definitely wouldn't have gone with the Pearl and Dean Towers into - definitely the other: bah bah bah bahbhabahba (asteroid). They stopped using the Towers in 1972!

ps- the Curzon branding image above- is that 70s? it looks 80s to me.

3 years late to the party- I just did a ridiculous transfer of a Japanese vinyl copy of Story Of Star Wars on a decent turntable with an expensive cartridge, captured at 96Khz/24Bit. Was wondering what to do with video, but then randomly came across this thread.

I'm glad this exists, now off to find it somewhere.

I'd love a lossless copy of that The Story of Star Wars!  Are you planning on sharing/releasing?

ps- this is still running at myspleen

I vote for raw, and the tape flip over gap at actual length.  ie you have to wait through the tape flipping portion.  No to patching with the soundtrack from another source, but can fill this tape flip void or other missing segments with something phun.  And please leave in the over-recorded segment, curious what was so important or a complete accident.

I agree with this

Info, & Help Wanted: Star Wars "Story Of" LP's (The Definitive Collection)
Time

On the subject of 'Story Of' LPs, if I do get this up and running, I might do a series of preservations.

I also have a few others, including:

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (made by the same people who produced the Jedi album; same narrator too)

Dr Who and the Daleks. The 'Story of' the hit BBC TV story from the late 70s.

Apocalypse Now. This one is actually a double record set, so the best part of 90mins long. I've never seen another copy before or since (but then I haven't looked, to be honest). Like the Raiders of the Lost Ark disc, this does not contain any narration.

I also have a couple of kids' Disney 'Story ofs' - The Rescuers and The Jungle Book.

But I guess this all ultimately belongs in the 'other preservations' thread

I'm also surprised that more people haven't taken an interest in this.

In the days before VCRs this WAS Star Wars for most people in the 70s and early 80s - it was the only way they could relive the movie (unless they were incredibly rich and could afford a 16mm print). I still know the narration by heart!

These albums ARE my childhood and I'll always have a great big soft spot for them.

I do have the facilities to transfer these LPs from vinyl though to be honest, if I'm going to create an audiophile version, I'd rather use a better turntable (I have a bog-standard USB turntable from an unknown German company - DJTech).  That said, I can do some tests and see what comes out...
