RETURN OF THE JEDI story LP (Released)
Time

Great! Thanks a lot I look forward to seeing your work. I remember buying this LP back in 1983.

The only problem I'm having is with the downloads. Firstly, I can't queue the links in something like jdownloader so I have to open each individual link (but only when the last has completed)

The current estimated download time for the whole DVD is 124+ hours. God knows how long the blu-ray would take

Torrenting is really easy (I'm thinking myspleen) and downloads can take mere minutes.

Help: looking for... Indiana Jones "Story of" releases (anyone have the lossless transfers?)
Time

Hi,

I wondered if anyone has lossless transfers of the Indiana Jones 'Story of…" releases. I’ve had mp3s for a long time but it would nice if there was a proper preservation project dedicated to them (including artwork etc).

The Raiders release is particularly interesting because it contains audio outtakes that didn’t make it into the actual movie.

Star Wars Trilogy 7" 33 1/3 book and record set (Released)
Time

Dear all,

Despite my great enthusiasm for this project, I've realised that I have bitten off more than I can chew, time-wise.
My work schedule is more loaded than I initially estimated and I'm going to find it hard to dedicate time to this project this year.
I'm really sorry about that. My eagerness to help is not at all diminished, but for the time being, unfortunately, I'll have to sit on the sidelines.
I will of course keep checking on the project's progress and if my services are still required next year I can reassess my schedule then.

Ah, if only we didn't have to make rent!

apologies again and good luck - it's a great project!

By chance does anyone know where I can pick up the artwork for the Story Of Albums. I'm attempting to do my own artwork with what's available on the web but it's not going that well. The size of the images are too small and not of good quality.

There are clean artwork scans included in the movealong releases. Unfortunately, they're not hi-res.

If I can get my scanner working I might re-scan them myself (I have all th albums on vinyl. In fact I was quite lucky with my 'story of Star Wars'. I got it for  1$ and it had never been played!. I also have the cassette version)

The 12" Story of LPs have already been captured and released at 24bit and 16bit.

I concur that the audio files should be WAV or FLAC. Both are uncompressed file formats, the latter being smaller in size.

It's better to work with WAV while you're working because this format will work more easily with audacity, audition, etc

Including ROTJ in 24-bit?

I thought that 7FN's was the first 24-bit capture and his set didn't include ROTJ...

The 'story of' set I have from 7FN certainly has the 24bit ROTJ capture. His release was only missing the ROTJ music soundtrack.

Doh! You're right.

I should know this considering that I uploaded it... silly me.

LOL. I know the feeling - all the uploads blur into one, right? :)

Audacity is free open-source software and might be good enough for this project. Don't go anywhere near MP3

Likewise, with the graphics, don't go anywhere near compressed formats such as JPG - only work with uncompressed formats: BMP, TIF, PNG, etc

I think what is needed is the help of other people.

Hopefully someone has the original vinyl and booklets that can be captured uncompressed and in a high-resolution.

ie, WAV/FLAC for audio; for images a minimum 300dpi BMP/PNG/TIF

Alternatively, get the credit cards out!

for example, here is an unopened Empire read-along. And on cassette, which is arguably easier to work with (no pops or crackles).

There are actually quite a few available on Ebay

In terms of audio quality we should be aiming for what was done with the Story Of LPs(see thread below). 16 and 24bit captures and cleaned. Well worth the download.

If you need any help with restoring the hi-res images, tell me. I'm a professional digital image restorer and recently released an e-book of restored 1970s concert/tour programmes.

Gimp's ok, but it just doesn't have the functionality of photoshop.

For anyone with the books, please scan at least 300dpi

Audio-wise, I'd be getting uncompressed rips (mp3 is no good at all, especially for preservation), and release as FLAC.

Preserving the "German" Original Trilogy (Released)
Time

Ok, this is what I have:

Star Wars and Empire. All regions. Released early-to mid 2003. I bought them in October 2003.

Now...the weird thing is: "A New Hope was released on DVD on September 21, 2004".

I got my copies from the legendary Gorbushka in Oct 2003. I was only in Moscow until Christmas 2003, so I know it can't have been later than that because my 3 month visa ran out on 01.01.04.

So, where do these come from? For sure they are special editions. They're clearly not VHS copies. And, from what I can gather, these discs predate the German Premiere broadcast.

-----------------------------

In English and Russia Lektor (ie, narrated/translated by one person, which is often the case in Russia and Slavic countries)

All on-screen texts and subtitles are in German. No idea why.

I don't know why the SW screen grabs have come out small, but they're the same size as the Empire screen grab (1024x576).

Bond | Casino Royale (1954) preservation (Released)

Has anybody preserved this very 1st outing of James Bond, starring Barry Nelson as Bond and Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre for the 1954 TV show Climax!?

It was released on VHS, but it’d be great to have this on DVD.
