Star Wars Episode III: Labyrinth Of Evil (Released)

Here’s the fourth shot. The full list is updated below. If anyone notices any issues, please let me know!

As for the shots where Yoda gets attacked, I tried a simple fur color tweak and slight face augmentation so that it’s just another wookie. If this doesn’t work, though, we can look into another removal.

chemicalsam, a few posts up there’s a discussion about the merits of changing/removing Chewie between Hal, snooker, jarbear, Octorox, and NeverarGreat.

1) Chewie Removal - Wide 1

2) Chewie Removal - CU

3) Chewie Removal - Wide 2

4) Chewie Removal - Wide Establishing

5) Chewie Fur Color Adjustment

Jarbear, thanks for posting those clips! Just PMed you some files you were looking for, BTW.

I think it’s a good idea to see a bit more to connect Canto Bight with the rest of the story, and to introduce the young boy. When you get a chance to post the latest version to Vimeo (when your upload limit resets!), I’d be interested to see your latest version.

I’m curious about this one, how can I access this??? Also, when done watching this, will it be ok to review? I wanna do a comparison between Ivan’s, ForceGhostRecon’s, and this one.

PM sent! And yes, you’re always welcome to review and contrast this edit with other edits.

I’ve updated the shot to improve some of the tracking and masking (It’s the same link, but I’ll repost below), and I’ve also done the next Chewbacca shot!

So right now we have:

1) Chewie Wide Removal

2) Chewie CU Removal

Looks like there’s about four shots left, and as Hal said, some may be more necessary than others. The shots of Yoda being attacked by clones might not be needed, so I’ll leave those for last. That leaves two more shots, which I will try to get to soon.

Thanks for the input! It’s all really helpful in figuring out what needs to be done.

Yes, this is just a really rough first pass! I was posing the question because I’m wondering if, assuming the fur change and bandolier change looked convincing, would it really change him enough to be someone else?

Before going any further in trying to execute a change to 5 or so shots (which I admit is a huge challenge that I might not ever be able to get to look truly natural), do these changes even do the trick?

I like the idea of adding a stripe to his fur, but again not sure that will be convincing either with the way he moves his body. His fur doesn’t provide a great plane to do any mocha tracking.

Hello!

Hal asked me to post this work-in-progress of an idea to add or remove a bandolier from Chewbacca in order to make him, well, not Chewbacca. Also tweaked his fur color.

I tried to take the most difficult shot, since he turns around in the middle. It’s very rough, but maybe good enough to get early feedback since there’s several shots that would need to be changed.

Steve, thanks for the suggestion, and it’s something I can look st for V2, but for me, the issue with the Phasma fight is just not the one-liners but that the scene felt forced. It was a boss battle that was rehashing the same conflict Finn dealt with in TFA, making him choose sides again. This time he’s choosing the rebellion, not just Rey, but I think that idea is conveyed alrwady without this on-the-nose fight. It also interrupts the momentum of the climactic moments of the film. Still, I’m curious to see the other takes on it!

FreezingTNT, I think I’m going to wait until after IX comes out to see how it affects TLJ. There will likely be some adjustments needed to make the films match, but it’s hard to say this far out!

Caroline, thanks for the feedback, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I encourage you to check out some of the other fanedits on this forum, as there’s a lot of faneditors with very interesting ideas here!

Here’s a suggestion: when Rise of Skywalker comes out on DVD, try inserting the Knights of Ren into the background of a few scenes, such as the first throne room scene with Snoke and Kylo, as well as the scenes in Kylo’s shuttle on Crait. (Yes, it’s confirmed the Knights of Ren will appear in IX)

Thanks for the idea! I’m not sure how necessary that will be, but we’ll see after IX comes out. I realize there’s a lot of literature about them, but for me, what counts most is what’s in the films, and the Knights are really only hinted at so far.

This is one of the best TLJ edits out there. IMHO poppaskeeti has done the best of job of editing out the worst parts of the film without affecting the pacing.

Steve, thanks so much for the kind feedback, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! The way you stated it, removing the worst bits, is exactly the goal of the project.

jediplougher, you did it correctly, and I just replied to your PM!

Totally fair. I’m not sure how you could really remove it entirely, though. There’s just no way the show would have ended without dealing with who is ruling. We can’t really cut to the Starks farewells without understanding that Bran is King and Sansa has declared independence, can we? I agree about the small council scene; it should be trimmed (definitely remove the Song of Ice and Fire) or cut.

After this, I bought “The Long Night” episode and began playing with the color correction, because I think most of the problems people were having could have been easily mitigated with a gamma curve. Here’s my try:

These shots are all done with the same correction. The episode may require some shot by shot correction, but I think this curve actually works pretty well overall.

The Finale was okay for me overall until the Dragonpit scene where they pick a new king. It was a massive tonal shift with too much speechifying from Tyrion and self-aware humor (democracy? Hahaha!).

I bought the episode on iTunes and played with the scene a little bit. I’m curious to see if anyone thinks this is an improvement or not.

Here’s a general list of changes:

  1. trimmed Edmure Tulley’s awkward moment slightly, particularly the weird reaction shots and him accidentally clanging his sword. I kept the rest of the moment in, however, because I think his character would actually do that.

  2. Removed Grey Worm snapping at Tyrion about not speaking. It makes him look silly when Tyrion then speaks for the next ten minutes. As a note, Grey Worm is one of the big writing letdowns of the past few episodes. He went straight villain without any remorse over what happened, and unfortunately this scene didn’t help. Can’t really fix that, unfortunately.

  3. Removed Sam’s suggestion of democracy. It was too on the nose and self-aware. Also, I don’t like the execution when dead silence goes to huge laughter suddenly. It felt unnatural.

  4. Trimmed Tyrion’s speech, specifically removing the idea that stories are what unites people and makes a good king.

  5. Sansa declaring independence is not just a side moment, it’s the climax of the scene where the Stark theme swells. That way it’s as much a triumph for Sansa (who we’re more invested in) as for Bran.

EDIT:
6) Made an update and removed Tyrion saying, “Jon committed his crime here.” Is he really making a claim about jurisdiction?

I think this season could have benefited from having an extra episode or two to focus on character development and decision-making, along with giving more breathing room between and leading up to the more action-orientated episodes.

I couldn’t agree more with this. I think the broad outline of what’s happened since they ran out of book material makes a lot of sense and I can see where Martin was going with it, but the race to the ending caused many characters to do contortions to serve the plot.

If You had shown me episode 5 “The Bells” back while I was watching season 1, I think I would have said: “Oh my God, that’s amazing, I can’t wait to see how they get to this moment.” The answer is, though, “They didn’t.” They didn’t get there, at least not for me.

That’s all to say and agree that I think we need more material. I don’t think they release many deleted scenes for the show, unfortunately, but hopefully the Blu-ray for this season with have something.
