Thanks, Chase! Just sent you a PM.
Thanks, Chase! Just sent you a PM.
Hello! The “V3 NoPalp” version is now posted. This is essentially the V2 updated with all of V3’s non-Palpatine changes, which are listed below. So now they’re two updated versions to choose from. I thought about naming this new version “Legacy” or something like that, but realized they might be confusing. “V3 NoPalp” is simple and very clear I think!
Thanks again everyone for your help and feedback!

Maybe something like this:
Hope lives! Ignited by the legendary last stand of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, the fires of rebellion burn across the galaxy.
SUPREME LEADER KYLO REN, desperate to suffocate the growing Resistance, chases rumors of a long abandoned IMPERIAL FLEET that could bolster the armada of the First Order.
Sensing her rival’s dark ambitions, Rey hastens to complete her training, unsure if she will be ready to face her enemy and live up to the legacy of the Jedi…
This is great! It pays off TLJ and sets everything up for TROS. Also “Hope lives!” is a fun nod to the original crawl.
Hey There Poppasketti! Very excited to watch the final cut with all our new changes whenever I get the required wifi.
After watching Rise of Skywalker, I was wondering what your thoughts are on the possible deleted scenes and whether or not you’d be willing to make an edit for a more seamless transition between our now (greatly) improved TLJ and ROS.I’d be so super excited to look forward to participating in that edit.
Whaddaya think?
Sincerely, Axios
Hey Axios,
Thanks for checking in!
Right now I’m following Hal’s Ascendant thread and the TROS Ideas thread. There’s a lot of creativity happening there now and I think there’s going to be a some great fanedits! Down the road I can think about whether I’d like to make my own version, but for now I want to see what others do and if I can help contribute to them.
About the deleted scenes, correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe there are any. It was pretty sad to hear when they announced that was the case, but unless something’s changed, we are unfortunately left without any extra scenes to play with.
All theories are wrong; some are useful.
The Force should be beyond the ability of people to fully comprehend. I think the best way of viewing the Snoke lines is that he is identifying a connection between Rey and Kylo, but the full truth is not apparent to him, whatever that truth ends up being.
I think this is a really elegant explanation, and it’s how I feel about it too.
I never liked the rule of two, or that balance was something we could really quantify. I’m fine with the characters wrestling with these ideas, but the force is better when it’s beyond any one character’s comprehension, even if their hubris makes them think otherwise.
Played around with opening the film with Leia reminiscing back to her training with Luke.

Really well done! I wish they had gone this route. It’s so much nicer to take the opening of the saga’s finale to reflect a little and share insight rather than dive straight into the plot. It reminds me of how Return of the King opened.
Okay, now you just sound like a whiner. Just because Rey has lots of power without training doesn’t mean that Darth Kathleen was trying to force her evil SJW agenda down your throat. And from what I remember, her powers where not “honed” at all. She almost crashed the Falcon, and nearly destroyed the Jedi temple when she first discovered the dark side. She had lots of power, but little command of those powers. So this just seems like a blatantly wrong interpretation of the movies.
Agreed.
Also, maybe if someone had told Ryan Johnson that Yoda looked pretty fucking fat (in a nice way), then he would have made him look less fat before releasing TJL. Or maybe Jedi heaven has lots of hamburgers idk.
???
Does anyone here have a good understanding of how to work with HDR content? I wouldn’t want an edit to be automatically inferior by being SDR. I work with AfterEffects and Premiere on Mac.
Hey Drewton,
Adobe has been slow to adopt good HDR support, so you may want to be ready to edit in Davinci Resolve or (hate to say it) FCPX.
For a recent project, I had to switch from premiere, which as of the 2019 version, only supported HDR as H.264 or H.265 exports from premiere (getting an HDR prores export from premiere was impossible). You have to right-click on the Lumetri color panel and the scopes and set it to HDR. At export, you can set it to H264 or H265 and select the HDR10 color space in dropdown menu.
This is as of premiere 2019, so they may have more options in 2020. This link may be of some help:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-setting-up-for-hdr-work-in-premiere-2020/td-p/10646406?page=1
Davinci and FCPX have much more intuitive setups and options for HDR, it’s basically checkboxes when setting up your new project (especially FCPX, which makes is super simple).
You will also need an HDR monitor to be able to do any kind of color correction, as everything will look blown out on an SDR monitor.
For After Effects, I rendered shots to the openEXR format, which takes up huge amounts of space, and needs to be interpreted properly and re-color corrected in whatever final editor you choose (which was doable, but still a bit of a pain).
I hope this helps and good luck! If you discover any new workflows, I’d love to hear about it!

skenera, this is excellent! I love the extended starfield and that the camera movement still has a natural feel to it (not locked down with just a rotation keyframe). I’d be curious to know how you did it! Feel free to PM me if you don’t want to post details here, but I wanted to say great job!
Um…was the Dyad thing not the explanation?
Also, the idea that a “nobody” can have such innate talent with the Force was kind of the whole point/message, wasn’t it? Bloodlines don’t matter, anyone can be the most important person in the galaxy?
Totally agree, although to be honest, I did not understand what a dyad was after seeing TROS for the first time, which I think is a failure of the film (assuming that’s something they really wanted us to understand).
I find it interesting that so many people associate training with character development. People bash Rey as a “boring OP character”, while her internal struggles made her more interesting to me than Luke, whose struggle didn’t really develop until the third act of ESB. I also enjoyed Rey’s charm, charisma, and Luke-ish optimism ™, despite her struggle. Daisy Ridley made her instantly likable.
That Rey was a natural with the force was cool and new, I thought, and made me think that’s how these powers would have been originally discovered thousands of years ago. The rigid concepts of Jedi training felt like something we as viewers were meant to oppose because we love our heroes. Luke was technically too old for Jedi training, but didn’t we all want Yoda to train him, anyway? I never found the Jedi Academy model introduced in the prequels attractive, and I don’t think it was supposed to be. The real training is the personal journey, not a leveling up of powers. But there’s so many different things people like about Star Wars, I think it’s been interesting to see that come to the fore with the new Disney movies!
Just sent something over, Hal!
Oh hell yes, I will definitely send you something, Hal!
Octorox, if you right-click on the audio file in the bin, select interpret footage, go to audio tab, change Mono to 5.1 and the number of tracks from 6 to 1, that should properly format the clip!
The lossless audio files should
import straight into either software (definitely premiere).
I haven’t yet posted my lossless audio for V3 yet so I’ll do that now. It should be up in the next hour or two.
I would also recommend Resolve. Once you get over the unique quirks, I think there’s a edit style consistency between FCP7, Premiere, and Resolve. Tutorials should help get you quickly acquainted, too. I didnt have the same problem RL had, but I did skip the fall update because of issue with slow playback. They just released another update (16.2) recently so hopefully they fixed that.
Agreed, very well argued, but:
All y’all are forgetting her sensing Luke calling to her at the end of ESB… smh
D’oh!
Would your software allow you to export a LUT of your overall color correction to the movie?
Just sent them to you!
Just sent them over, let me know if it works!
Hal, I can make a LUT from premiere to send to you that should match your original color correction (I made one from your exports and Dr. Dre’s before I tweaked my own). I am not 100% sure how well that will transfer to FCX but it’s worth a shot!
Exactly exactly!
And smpearce1981, that was perfectly said and from a different angle than I had considered before!
I think ROTJ and TLJ already established her force-sensitivity pretty well without her spacewalk.
In ROTJ, Luke tells her of her power and she uses it a couple of times:
“Somehow, I’ve always known…”
“He wasn’t. I can feel it…”
In TLJ, she has a mother-son force interaction with Kylo-Ren just before the bridge explosion, and she connects with Luke from her hospital bed.
I also just want to clarify that I don’t dislike the spacewalk because of how powerful/not powerful Leia is supposed to be. My brain just could never muster enough suspension of disbelief to accept that anyone blown into outer space can survive. I know there are studies suggesting it could be possible to survive for a minute or two, but in my mind, basic logic and storytelling dictates that she should have died. I would feel exactly the same if it were Luke.
I don’t like the head fake of making us think she’s dead and then using the force as a deus ex machina to get her out of the situation. It cheapens the stakes for me. I’m okay with it in Guardians of the Galaxy, because that plays a lot more fast and loose with the rules and is just plain fun (it’s also actually set up better than what happens in TLJ). But in Star Wars, that’s a basic rule of logic that I think should stick.
Thanks as always, Ash, and stay safe! If you have other things to take care of, don’t let this interfere with your life!
Better that way, I don’t like soggy cereal (and certainly not chewy).
Intriguing. Hmm…
