For anyone that would like to see some more of the 16mm THX:

Wow, this is actually the first time I've seen the entire film in its unaltered state. It's held up incredibly well.
(And is surprisingly view-able without any sound.)

Also what version of the film is this?
I haven't visited this thread in a couple of months, and last time I checked the scene where SEN talks with the children was partially in black-and-white.
This version also didn't have the Things to Come / Buck Rogers scene at the beginning. Wasn't one of these in the theatrical release?

(Again, I'm sorry if this has already been discussed/explained, but I'm not quite up to speed with the progress of this project.)

This is the entire THX1138 1971 version, as it was when originally released in Cinemas. It is a 16mm print, that is faded very heavily to red. This file is an attempt to rescan the print with a different technique to recover whatever colour still remains on the print. It will need cleanup, colour correction, stabilisation, sound sync etc. It is the only record so far of how the film was originally presented to audiences in 1971. I have also viewed a 1971 35mm Tech-IB and it is the same as far as content goes, so this is how the film was in 1971.

I think this is the first time since then that we can see that version of the film.

The posted file is silent, and has timecode burned in, if referencing scenes for discussion then mentioning the time-code or posting an image with the time-code included will make it easier for anyone to find the particular scene in question.

The Buck Rogers sequence is also on this print, I left it off to keep the filesize down, but it is complete, and the entire print does have sound, just not the preview file. For anyone wishing to do a complete restoration, the entire thing is captured in 2K, raw 16bpp format, so drop me a line if you are going to tackle it, but it is multiple terrabytes in size.

No, I don't know anyone named Marvin.

Apart from that little Martian.

 It's me :)

And yes, poita is the one who is currently scanning my 16mm french reels.

Ah, well, in that case, I do know a Marvin!

And the scans are *finally* done, I swear those prints were cursed, but they are, thankfully done. Still need to be stabilised and corrected, but the raw scans are in. If Marvins is happy for sample images to be posted, I can start a thread for them.

Wow a Steenbeck! I edited a couple of my student films on one of those. Great machines - especially after using hand cranks :D . I can still hear all the little sounds it makes.

BTW: how accurate are the colors on your machine? I remember ours being yellow tinted and a bit out of focus.

We replaced the light source with something a lot more accurate, and replaced the screen with Darin rearpro material, and the colours are extremely close to how it looks projected. But a lot more convenient and the Steeny sits next to the colour suite, so far better for referencing.

I picked it up for $80 from a government auction.

More like Lifestyles of the broke and only slightly infamous.

It is a Steenbeck edit table, I use it for reference when doing colour corrections, so I can correct back to the print.

Unfortunately there was no forklift at the new address, so unloading it was mostly Faith, Fear and oh Fu#*!
