Guess who’s back!

Since they’re apparently going to visit the wreck of the DS2, I’m guessing Palpatine might appear as either a Force Ghost, or more likely, as some kind of Force Vision. Might be similar to the Thrawn trilogy where the death of the Emperor left behind an imprint in the Force.

Or Lucasfilm could just be messing with us in the trailer. Wouldn’t technically be the first time.

Both Death Stars blew up. There was concept art for The Force Awakens of the second Death Star underwater, but they scrapped it. It seems like they could potentially be returning to those ideas, but it also seems a bit odd because the Death Star blew up in space.

Well, it blew up orbiting Endor. So it’s not out of the realm of possibility that fragments fell to the moon’s surface. Which would also suggest that the forest setting that was shown in a couple of the promo photos might indeed be the forests of Endor.

There is no way that the planet the station is on is Endor. It looks like a different planet.

Possible, but the Death Star remains being anywhere else would make no sense at all. Then again J.J. Abrams has demonstrated time and again that he doesn’t know (or maybe just doesn’t care) how outer space works.

Where did you get that tidbit?

Isn’t it in the trailer?

It looked like the DS popping out of the ocean at the end of the trailer. They were planning something similar for TFA, so I figured they’d reused the idea.

Oh is that what that thing was? Jeez, I guess I’m not very observant.

It’s possible. I really don’t see it happening though. I think for whatever reason, the Lucasfilm story team or writers or whoever of these new films are either not interested or afraid to go all-in on the romance angle.

Maybe they think it’s too old fashioned or something. It does seem to be kind of an outmoded notion in modern blockbusters.

Solo kind of does it, but even then it’s a more cynical kind of romance.

pretty much confirms undoubtedly the remade Kylo mask

I have stated already why I didn’t like the idea of Ben rebuilding his back, as it is an act of back treading upon his character, there is a way that the mask could be used well. There is a scenario in Episode IX that came to me where the use of the mask could be used well. After a possible fight between himself and Rey, there could be a moment where Rey tells him to take off the mask. Ben doesn’t do so, but Rey is able to talk him down to trust her. Rey approaches him slowly and takes the mask off him herself. It could be a beautiful mirroring as to when Luke took off Vader’s mask in Return of the Jedi. That’s just a scenario that came to me that could possibly happen in Episode IX.

And then they smooch #reylo
😉

I’ve had quite a change in opinion since my first ranking, so here’s an update.

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  2. A New Hope
  3. The Force Awakens
  4. Return of the Jedi
  5. Revenge of the Sith
  6. Rogue One
  7. The Last Jedi
  8. Solo
  9. The Phantom Menace
  10. Attack of the Clones

Your first ranking was three months ago.

Being on OT.com for three months has really changed my perspective on the movies, so I wanted to do an update to compare my views before and after discovering this website.

Fair 'nuff.

Celebration 2019 - Chicago; 11th to 15th April

I know that during Battlefront II’s canal in Orlando the crowd booed when EA announced that micro-transactions would be present within the game.

That’s because including micro-transactions in a game that the consumer has already paid for is exploitative and generally objectionable. I think booing proved to be the correct response in that situation.

Overly-zealous is my guess. No one pays money to attend what is essentially a giant ad campaign–sorry, “Celebration”–unless they’re already drinking the Star Wars Kool-Aid.

Is my cynicism showing?

You’d probably have fun if you were there.

You’re probably right.

This definitely appears to be a real promotional image of some kind.

It sucks to see that Kylo will be wearing the mask again at some point. I’m going to assume (see: hope) it will be in a very limited capacity. It was already done to great effect in TFA, but that’s over now and the mask serves little purpose going forward. JJ would be a complete idiot to hide the face of his lead actor behind a mask again for half the movie.

And ye gods, is there anyplace I can go online where I don’t have to hear people bitching about Star Wars? It wasn’t even a Star Wars chat where I heard about this.

This is one of the funniest things I’ve read in a long time. Disney bringing George in to “polish the film’s script”. Hahahaha!

Rian Johnson to Head New Star Wars Trilogy
Time

I think Rian Johnson is an interesting director. There are parts of TLJ that I absolutely love and other parts that I can’t hardly stand to watch.

But if I may make a prediction: I don’t think Rian Johnson will get further than one movie into his trilogy (if he even gets that far) before Disney shuts it down. I just don’t think there’s a very large desire for another Star Wars Trilogy among casual movie goers. And among Star Wars fans I don’t think there’s a very large desire for more Rian Johnson Star Wars movies, especially if he goes back to the same playbook of story elements he used in TLJ.

I hope I’m proven wrong and that he creates a wonderful, interesting new trilogy that does gangbusters. I think he’s a much better writer/director than The Last Jedi would indicate.

I mean, that’s my inclination. The alternative is that the performance is just weak and I don’t see John Williams allowing that. But if you listen to the opening hit followed by the staccato trombones (just the first few seconds) in one of prequel soundtracks compared to the sequel soundtracks, it’s as if someone took all the attack out of the brass instruments on the latter. They sound muffled almost as if the high-end was cut out. And the trombone staccati notes are barely audible.

If you listen to the two soundtracks one after the other, the difference is night and day. The first time I watched TFA on blu ray, I thought there was something wrong with my sound system.
