Awesome
Does somebody know how to acqurie the ESB and ROTJ 1997 SE versions in HD. The only Reconstruction/Transfer I was able to come by was Harmy’s Respecialized Edition.
Anybody able to help me?
As of right now, unfortunately no. The best Versions are either Harmy’s Respecialied or Adywans ESB reconstruction.
“This is where the fun begins!”-Anakin
“This will be a day Long remembered!”-Vader
Awesome.
I enjoy both endings. Yub Nub is a great ending to the trilogy as a whole. The Victory Celebration is a great whole saga piece, I prefer the 97’ cut. Victory but with Sabastian Shaw.
That is a fantastic article you wrote on wordpress doubleofive. I agree with it.
I WAS thinking about buying the individual 4k releases of the Original Trilogy just to check out the “new” transfer. From everything I can gather, these don’t have Dolby Vision. Isn’t Dolby Vision the standard for true HDR color/contrast interpretation on 4k OLED displays? We get the higher resolution but we don’t get the true HDR color range with these discs?
Send help.
Disney Hasn’t released/ re-release tiles with Dolby Vision on Disc for a while. They do have standard HDR10. The only way to get DV is either stream their titles or Download them using the Included Digital code or D+.
I’ve started work on the colors for Despecialized 3.0, which will be a scene by scene color grading. I’ve finished the opening shots on board the Tantive IV, and the confrontation between Vader and Antilles:
Color variations between shots within a scene are inherent to the source. It’s interesting to note, that the 2019 SE is the first official release with enough color fidelity to resolve the different colors of the walls, and panels inside the Tantive IV:
Can’t wait.
so is this better than 4k80 or close?
4k80 is not even done yet. No idea when it’ll be released, they are taking there time and making sure everything is in order.
4K80 will be true to the Original edits of the film. D+80 uses either the Disney+ (v1.x) and UHD (v2.x)(v2.1 is the newest). D+80 is a reconstruction of the original theater version. It mainly uses the 4k 2019 masters as a source, but with the Special Editions changes replaced with 35mm film scans.

This is the guys that created Legacy. He goes in depth with is process. Uploaded May 25, 2020.
I would love an official release. I agree with V.I.N.Cent. I’m thankful for all the Fans and People who have preserved these historic films in there Original State. Over the years many projects have come out of this site and TSWT.
I don’t mind that there are revisited/recut/remastered cuts of movies. Or even Fan edits. Change can be a good thing as long as history is preserved.
Being in my mid 20’s I’m glad my 1st introduction to SW was the Faces VHS. I like the new versions as well. But wish an official release of the OUT was available.
But, Thanks to the many efforts and projects here. I can finally show friends and family the Original Cuts in high quality/ on par with the official released versions.

Hello, guys. So, as I said before, I’m getting this month off from work and I’m planning to work on Despecialized.
Now, the reason I’m writing this post is to ask you guys for donations. I hate to do this but as I’m a freelancer, being out of work means I’m not gonna be getting any income and right now, the VFX industry is kind of f*cked, because all filming has stopped due to COVID, so I’m not even sure there will be much payed work for me in the future. Luckily, if it comes to that, I can survive on savings for a while but I will have to cut any extra expenses, so I could really use some help with the software and hardware expenses for Despecialized.
Any donations to harmypaypal@email.cz are welcome and, of course, any donors will get their names in the credits.Just to be upfront about this, I can’t actually promise any delivery date on Despecialized - I’m starting over with an all new set of sources and right now, I’m still trying to figure out how to properly work with the HDR sources and it’s a bit frustrating. But I’m talking to some guys about possible collaborations, including oohteedee and DrDre, so hopefully, we’ll figure it out together.
Can’t wait. Thank you.
That was an awesome end to The Clone Wars! The last 4 episodes tied everything in perfectly.
This whole show went from, “Eh!”; to, “Holy Crap,” the last few seasons; to “Holy $4!..” the last few episodes.
Spoiler Alert!!!
This is a great tie-in for everything. Revenge of the Sith is woven in perfectly and Rebels gets a reference too.
That shot of Vader walking away from that rusted/weathered Clone helmet symbolizes, literally, the death and end of The Clones Wars as he (we) once knew it. A man turned into a machine. A shell of his former self. The War was won, it was finally over, but at what cost!
Spoiler Alert!!!
May the 4th be with you.
I did a color correction for ANH in collaboration with Stotchy:
The aim here is to maintain a similar color palette, but with improved color dynamics.
Fantastic.
Link to US 18-disc Blu-ray only.
I don’t think there is a US 18-disc blu-ray set. That link seems to go to a third-party seller that’s importing the UK set.
It looks like if you want a blu-ray only set, you have to get the UK one. But it’s apparently region-free so it shouldn’t be a problem.
My Apologies, I see what you mean now. Good catch.
Link to US 18-disc Blu-ray only.
It is apparently available in the US too:-
https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Skywalker-Complete-Blu-ray/dp/B082WXD4ZH - $149.99. It may be cheaper and also available elsewhere?
Does anyone know if the 18 disc set is available in the US? I can’t seem to find it on Amazon.
I have noticed that any HDR to SDR conversion I’ve seen have a green tint to them (Any movie).
Here is the screenshots from the non-HDR 1080p blu-ray(included in 4K package).

Unless it’s just me. They still need a slight contrast boost. But not to crazy lol.
Disney is being so WEIRD about Disney Plus, and it doesn’t make any sense.
none of their content decisions regarding “protecting the children” make any sense as long as they’ve got The Simpsons there. (Most of the Simpsons is incorrectly framed anyway)
If they want Disney plus to be THAT squeaky clean, they basically have to pull the Marvel and Star Wars channels, as well as the Simpsons, and put all that on Hulu.
It’s just ridiculous that they went out of their way to create this platform, make sure it has something for everyone in the family, and then once it’s up and rolling start aggressively neutering everything as much as possible. That’s not why anyone signed up.
So Daryl Hannah has bad digital fur technology applied, but Anakin is burning alive with no issues, and The Simpsons are making porn jokes.
That’s Disney for you. lol.
I’d like to see that. I feel with a slight White balance adjustments and slight Contrast boost these will look great (Apart from the use of DNR).
With apologies (and thanks) to Broom Kid…
That looks Fantastic. It took out that green hue in the highlights.
It’s just a few seconds’ work - correct white balance using the stormtrooper armour as the anchor then raise contrast a few points. What I wonder is, if everyone who compares these screenshots finds the original looks ‘too green’, how come this wasn’t corrected in the mastering?
Color wise, I think they tried to make the whole saga match. Contrast wise, the Pt and St look similar, while the Ot looks pale in comparison.
I’d like to see that. I feel with a slight White balance adjustments and slight Contrast boost these will look great (Apart from the use of DNR).

Looking at the cap from above, thought I’d put together a comparison of “Here to Rescue Yous”
http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparison/7DKY7NNX
I think I got those all labeled correctly.
Thanks for making this comparison. I think you did label them correctly.
I loaded the final capture from the 4k into Capture One editing software and a simple one click white balance adjustment gets rid of the very slight teal bias of the original image. Or at least, that’s how it appears to me on a calibrated monitor.

The 2020 blu-rays should look like the Disney+ SDR right? Here’s a few comparrissons I found featuring those. Though only in 720p.
The blu-ray.com reviews is the only place I’ve seen screenshots from the blu-rays though. I think it defenetly looks like an improvment over 2011.
What Disney+ SDR? They stream the HDR, don’t they? Does it play a properly encoded SDR version on incompatible platforms? It certainly didn’t at launch. IIRC it just looked washed out for people.
It seems to play the HDR fine on my TV app now, though.
But yes, the new 1080p discs seem to have nice color, based on the blu-ray.com reviews that have gone up so far.
They’ve put the SDR on there not that long ago. I don’t have anything HDR. The D+ Stream had better colors when I re-watched some bits a few days ago. Before the colours used to be washed out.
P.S: I did not change any settings on my displays. Color, Brightness, ect.
Looks like they’re definitely from the included blu-ray, and not the 4K UHD, according to this italicized note in the review proper.
The included screenshots are sourced from the included 1080p Blu-ray disc, which has itself received a fairly drastic makeover compared to the 2011 20th Century Fox release.
So if I’m reading that right, EVERY screencap on that site for that review of Star Wars: A New Hope is taken from the '19 transfer that’s on the blu-ray, and not the UHD.
Hopefully they do that for the rest of the OT and PT, too!
They did as well for the individual PT and R1. They are releasing daily reviews.
