After the victory in TROS, every planet ever seen in Star Wars is seen in the montage with looping music. Including the Alderaan rubble field.
in this thread, i particularly love the ideas that George Lucas or Disney could’ve possibly had… this is one of them
i have watched this new ending so many times that i started to feel that the twin suns need a little breath after the falcon leaves before the credits pop, maybe one second or a little more, so things can set in a little better
Yeah, I’m actually ok with Option 2; keeping Rey scolding Poe could make a hypothetical audience member think that “lightspeed skipping” simply means a hasty jump to hyperspace (without careful calculations, etc) and that is what got the Falcon in bad shape . After all Poe just goes and activates lightspeed right as the ship smashes against the ice wall. In that case, I don’t know if keeping the TIEs following the Falcon into hyperspace is strictly necessary, though it’s okay if it’s done this way since it’s established those special TIEs do have hyperdrives.

Since we have already changed some 3PO lines and cut out the reference to R2 having his memory backed up, I wanted to go ahead and see if it would be possible to not have R2 reupload 3PO’s memories at all. This is what I came up with.
I think the first scene, where 3PO meets R2 again, could be moved to before the scenes with Rey on Ach-To. That way it feels like R2 and 3PO have been speaking for awhile, and we catch back up with them in the middle of a conversation. I also slightly changed 3PO’s lines regarding the transmission to make him speak more objectively, since he may not have been caught up on who Luke is yet. It might not be right for Ascendant, but I thought I’d go ahead and share it.

I just wish we had more unmasked David Prowse footage to do this scene and the ghost.
Fun Fact: for the documentary “I Am Your Father” about David Prowse’s career, they reshot the unmasking scene with Prowse as Anakin; but Disney wouldn’t let them release it to the public, so only the documentary crew (as well as Prowse himself) have access to it.

I don’t know where you head it at with a Rey Nobody version, so I can post this in the other thread if you prefer, but I revisited the “Just Rey” edit I did a couple of months ago and made a few tweaks with fresh eyes and ears. Cool! I’m planning a regular Rey Palptine version first, then a Rey Nobody version whenever the pieces are ready for it. In my head, I’m gonna think of the first as my canon. I would’ve preferred her to have remained a “””nobody””” but this particular film seems shaped by her new heritage. But I don’t mind allowing for both. I can imagine randomly selecting which one to play even.
But even for Rey Nobody, unless it’s near unanimous, I think it’s stronger to keep the original final line.
i think “just Rey” could fit really well in the “Rey Palpatine” version, i think she grew over the fact that she needs a last name, she already found a family in her new friends, and “there are things stronger than blood”, i do not hate “Rey Skywalker”, but i think “Rey Nobody” fits better with her character in any case.
If the original movie was “Rey Nobody” all along, i think “Rey Skywalker” would be a good ending to that story, she found her family there, but in “Rey Palpatine”, the whole deal is about she growing past family titles and heritages.

Cutting to the large stadium area would maybe be weird since that was kept for later. There’s really not much else to cull from that I am aware.
Maybe could be shots from the sith throne, the first time we see the throne is during Rey/Kylo’s vision, i think to introduce the throne in the first Exegol scene is better than introduce it in a flash during a vision, and makes the vision works better since it looks like Kylo is making her see what he saw on Exegol
if the destroyers haven’t appeared in the trailers and only showed up in the theather at the end of the movie i would have been REALLY surprised (for good)
EDIT: Well, it might be awkward to have Palpatine just offer Kylo a vague “Final Order” “might” during the opening, and a subsequent reference to “outdated ships” or whatever wouldn’t make immediate sense. 😕
In the board meeting the FO officers are upset about of Kylo Ren’s decision of helping the Emperor, they don’t belive in Palpatine and his vague promisse, but Kylo even says that “what he saw in Exegol could turn the FO into a real Empire”, so he saw the destroyers there at some point, but we as audience did not, works like a build up to the reveal of what is the Final Order when Palps talks to Pryde and the destroyers emerges from the ice…

Speaking of the destroyers rising, what about moving that up to when Palpatine says to Pride “the final Order begins”? I think not seeing them until the 3rd act builds up anticipation instead of revealing all the cards in the first few minutes of the opening.
They’re also just floating there for no apparent reason for 3 quarters of the film.

maybe a line during the FO meeting about “moving precious resources and personel to repair outdated ships” could help with this…
Unfortunately, it seems like TROS is the result of that ilk invading youtube discourse.
TROS is the combination of lack of further planning, demmands from producers overlords and a direct please to the hateful minority of SW fans that just bullied the franchise since disney got the license
i believe more creative freedom and 1+ year in development could have resulted in a far better movie, or at least they should have developed TROS from DOTF.
The ep 9 from my dreams would have been a script from JJ and RJ… I would have liked that…

Well, I just finished, and i have to say: it is an improved version of TROS, small changes can fix a lot, i think that’s the case here.
Even though I liked a lot (I got more emotional this time than in the premiere), I agree is indeed conservative, i think is a nice base for radical edits, and, with luck and with the Big-Bad Mouse good will, a future base for an extended cut if deleted/alternate scenes were ever released (or someone is crazy enough to produce new scenes).
There are nitpicks I would complain, a shot here and there, some unnecessary fan-service (like chewie medal or the kiss), etc, but nothing too big to point out (and can be easily customized at will).
Nevertheless, a fine workprint (and fine addition to my headcanon), really looking foward to see the final cut.

I dunno, it’s nice to have a moment of just thinking and not having something heavy-handed happen.
I understand, but it still feels a pointless scene. And there is no need to be a heavy-handed addition, it could be a subtle break in the urgent flow that would build to something later in the movie.
I had a crazy idea as I watch the edit that I think it might be cool and work as little foreshadowing…
in 17:05, when Rey is looking at the forest, may insert a shot with a vfx work Luke Force Ghost/Vision in the woods in a POV of Rey, as the ghosts (mainly Luke) are watching her and standing behind her all along as she trains to be a Jedi, and it would build up to the new Jonh Ghosts vs Palpatine shot, and is not all that hard to make this…
