Stuff has been digitally painted all over, to add more richness and color to it. None of you has taken that aspect of the "remaster" into account. Im 100% against the re edit. I'll wait to see what MeBeJedi comes out with.

Thats your opinion and your entitled to it but i'm willing to put in the time and the effort and have already spent a week working on a back to 77 edit.
I have taken into account the remaster of the footage, difficult not to when you watched the same footage over and over, colour correction isn't hard but it is time consuming like alot of the work many of us are trying to achieve with this trilogy.

I'm doing this for myself there is going to be no bootleg, but rather than sit back and be critical of other peoples efforts I can at least sleep easy knowing that I have tried.

Count me in

I edit on a mac with FCP but PC requirements are probably similar(?) so my advice if you have the cash is to get as much ram as you can 1-2gig is good start and Dual processors, They help alot if your apps are multi-threaded especially when rendering your sequence also a fast Hard drive(raptor maybe?) for the scratch disk.

I love the DVDs!

I am trying to adopt a middle ground here, I purchased the 04 editions because I wanted the best source material for my fan edits.

But It baffles me why he didin't release a set in a similar vain to the Alien Quadrilogy everyone would be happy then, but if your a billionaire surrounded by lackys who think the sunshines out of your arse...

Using the '04 SE DVD version to restore the Original (with lots of info)
Time
Well so far I have got the vobs off the dvds (using mpeg streamclip for anyone interested) and onto my HD and have been just comparing them to the LDs. One thing I did notice is that the wampa cave is very blue compared to the LD scene, but only having FCP and other prosumer apps theres only so much I can do, good on you mike and everyone else for taking the time and effort

Did edit the greedo scene though and it don't look to bad.
