along with "Before the Dark Times. Before the Empire"

"The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. I have just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away forever."

also, the Death Star is a completion of the plans seen in the PT.

Info: The Redemption Of Anakin Skywalker - whole SW series edited to one 3hr epic
Time

I'm seeding this, but have some mf links up if anyone wants to PM me for them.

This was an awesome way to experience the Saga - a little rough around a few of the edges (a little bit of Obi-Wan's AotC stuff might be unnecessary, but could help split up Anakin/Padme and make their romance develop a little more slowly) but all around fantastic. I'd love to see this redone with the Blus, tweaked up just a bit and released at a little higher quality. Could be my go to version in a Star Wars craving pinch (whenever I can't watch at least two or three of the films... which is most of the time) :)

No, he "gets" them stalkers... ie he "understands how they feel and think" which ultimately means that he has no intention of becoming intimately informed of the inner workings of Bingowings. ;)

Easterhay, I truly mean no offense by this, but most of the regulars here have a working memory of your posting history on the site. You're not singled out - everyone kind of keeps tabs on everyone here, because personal preferences and opinions help us know how to interact with each other in a civil way.

Your personal posting history has been of interest simply because you came into this community with very strong opinions that you will vehemently defend - as well you should. In many applications, the best defense is a good offense (which is frequently how you come across) but forums really don't work that way. Forums operate on the principle that nobody should ever be on the offense. Everyone has a point to make and defend, but by sticking purely to defense we avoid an issues caused by offending other people. Try and look at a few of your posts objectively - you may know how you were feeling when you wrote them, but the rest of us often don't. Which is why often you're met with less than sympathy. Trying to help, not attack, seriously.

Now, back to the one armed Sith bent on revenge - Darth Mace :)

How should have the Empire Strikes Back Plot Twist have been kept a secret in the prequel trilogy???
Time

Ady, I think it would actually be really cool if you took the layout of this Starkiller action figure, and added a Vader Mask to it. That way, it's just enough Vader added in, without going over the top. It would also mesh better with the PT, since the Vader outfit would look a little off next to the PT Trooper outfits, since it was designed to be similar to the original Stormtrooper outfits.

Perhaps something like this (sorry for my AWFUL photo editing skills):

From Ady in a different thread on keeping the Vader secret:

If vader in the suit had been the one to storm the Jedi Temple then it would have gone along with what Obi-Wan told luke about Vader "hunting down and destroying the Jedi", but without spoiling the ESB revelation. In fact, that's exactly what i'm hoping to achieve in ROTS:Revisited. It's going to be very tough to acheive, but on the plus side this means that there will be a lot less of that whiny, emo, crap actor Hayden in the movie, which can only be a good thing

My head is spinning on how the rest of the movie plays out with that in mind...

(A crude attempt of mine at a ROTS Vader...):

What would Darth Vader have been like as a ruler, if he had overthrown emperor palpatine and became the emperor/ruler of the galaxy himself??
Time

Vader would have plunged the galaxy into unending civil war, with a constant disregard to individual planetary sovereigns. Rebellions would rise to fight the Empire, but Vader's total lack of guilt for murder would make it impossible for compassionate people to win, especially diplomatically. Vader would be a black hole, enveloping ever star system and galaxy possible. Considering his origins, he needs a continuing driving force to maintain his evil. Without it, I think he would fall into a deep depression and be usurped by those working under him.

I've said for years, the reason bluray hasn't been adopted as well as you'd think hinges on a single issue: DVD Upconversion.

DVD Upconversion took our entire current movie collection, and made it look pretty damn nice on our new, huge TVs. Not only that, but it was early on a standard feature in Bluray players - meaning that people never had to go out and re buy the films they already owned. In some cases, this is fine, as DNR and Edge Enhancement have really screwed up some hi def releases. But without a huge back catalog to replace existing films with, Hollywood has been pushed to put out as many big, flashy films as possible to push the benefits of Blu. They even put out 3D Bluray to try and lure more people in - which has been so expensive, it's a joke.

If they would quit selling standalone DVDs completely and switch to ComboPacks and Bluray releases only, we would see a jump in sales and even more support. But for some reason they haven't done it yet... and the support for DVD, Blu, AND Digital Copies (of which there are like 5 or 6 different kinds) has spread everyone out across the board, as opposed to certain level of uniformity from one home to another that we saw with VHS and DVD.

The Clone Wars: Season V
Time

http://starwarsawakening.wordpress.com/

This guy is doing exactly that, writing a reimagining of the PT. It is fully intentioned to proceed the OT, in the same way the PT did, but telling a completely different story.

As for the superhero films, perhaps Batman and Spiderman are bad examples (though not as bad as your thinking the earth is flat example, IMO :P), but the comparison to Superman is not a bad example.

Superman 1 and 2 both had a certain feel. People enjoyed them for what they were (though the Donner cut of 2 is often regarded as the better version).

Then came Superman 3 and 4, which are widely viewed negatively in comparison to the original films, and led to 20 years without a new Superman film.

Following that 20 years, they were trying to figure out what to do with Superman in this endless stream of superhero movies. Rather than start over, they decided to COMPLETELY IGNORE films 3 and 4, and make a new direct sequel to Superman 2 called Superman Returns. For many people, it became as if Superman 3 and 4 had never happened.

Such is the case with the PT. Even though we may not have another film re-imagining to replace the story prior to the OT, many people have their own personal ideas of how it COULD have happened that they enjoy far more than what we actually got.

When it comes to the OT, I never watch my official ANH because in my personal Star Wars canon, Jabba never confronted Han Solo after he shot Greedo. As in, it surprises me any time I happen to catch it on TV or at a friends house. To me, it ISN'T a part of MY Star Wars, and for some people, the entire PT didn't happen in THEIR Star Wars. And that's okay.

What exactly was stopping George from "handing off" the prequels???
Time

I really liked AotC when it came out, and still view it fondly.

I think the issue tends to be that TPM didn't hook as many people into the PT as was expected.

With TPM... so much was jam-packed into it, and it had such a different feel from the OT, that a lot of people had to see it two or three times just to wrap their heads around it. A lot of reviews these days contain "I saw The Phantom Menace like 5 times in theaters". I don't think that was the case with AotC. Some people didn't like TPM, and didn't come back. Some people came back hoping AotC was better, and decided it wasn't. Most people saw it once, shrugged their shoulders, and waited for RotS to figure out where the hell this was all heading. A small minority loved the film and followed the SW trend of multiple viewings.

Generally though, it succeeded because it was a Star Wars movie.

The Clone Wars: Season V
Time

People aren't really brainwashing themselves the prequels don't exist, they are simply of the opinion that the PT is not canonically accurate. There are many instances in which the viewer/reader of a certain franchise has to make their own choice of what is the complete canonical story - I mean, which Batman story is your preferred version? Do you prefer the Raimi trilogy of Spiderman, or did you like The Amazing SpiderMan? Do you watch Superman Returns, or Superman 3 and 4?

Often these decision are made based on the fact that there are multiple versions to choose from that contradict each other, but that doesn't necessarily have to be the case. If you don't like something, it's your right to write it out of your continuity. A lot of people enjoy The Clone Wars that don't like the PT. Just because they are technically part of the same canon doesn't mean you can't cut and paste what you like. You could completely rewrite TPM and AotC, and still fit it narratively with TCW. And then follow it up with a RotS that is COMPLETELY different than what we got.

That's the first time I've ever seen the summary sheet.

I actually really like #41

Change Vader’s line of “Obi-wan once thought as you do” to “Your mother once thought as you do”. Adds a whole extra set of emotions :) If I may suggest, it wold be nice if the things that Ady is planning were bolded, rather than italicized.

Recreating the PT from Original Film Takes
Time

I mean no offense by this, honestly, but both of you (Easterhay and thecolorsblend-I've enjoyed your insights) need to quit worrying so much.

As the Star Wars landscape has changed, so have a lot of people's views. With the announcement of the sale to Disney, I've seen a dramatic shift in what people think of George Lucas, and I never thought that would happen. While most people agree that they want him to stay out of their ST, a lot of people have gone back to thoroughly loving him for the OT and his support on fan projects, and simply regard the PT as an affair that we're all just trying to forget about. He gave away his right to release the OUT, so there is no longer any reason to be angry with him that it's not being released.

Likewise, compare the hate of the PT now to 8 years ago - Fanedits have risen that damn near make these GOOD movies, even if they'll never reach the level of the OT. People who used to believe that the PT was unsaveable are now the very people who are trying to save them, making as many suggestions as possible to every edit thread that pops up. Consider how many people are waiting in the wings for the PT Revisited that refuse to watch them right now.

People are almost never prepared to change their minds, but it happens all the time. Everyone just needs that one well worded argument to penetrate their minds and fester for a while. Likewise, even now I'm trying to change your opinion on this forum's ability to weather different opinions. While I understand your choice not to mess with what you believe is the "status quo", I think you are misreading the situation. Let down your hair, sir. Enjoy the party :)
