Only that I'm waiting for my invite to the blog ;)
Hey, what's up with the hostility? Half of this thread has been personal attacks against people for having an opinion...
Though every post I've made in this thread has been... mysteriously skipped by discussion :P Maybe I've dodged a bullet there... ;)
The best thing they can do, honestly, is to film it the way the OT was filmed using the best modern technology to do so. The Matrix technology was so amazing when it came out for the 360 degree angles, etc. Imagine what that can do for a model being filmed against a blue/green screen for a space battle.
Drop the CG except to compliment where there is no other alternative.
Do that, and anything Arndt has to deliver will shine in that nostalgic way that the PT never could have.
Abrams is a self-proclaimed SW fan. I expect him to do good things (though, nothing great that is going to push the envelope) because he has respect for the original source material. But I guess these days, going back to physical models for a Sci-Fi movie really is the only way to push the envelope...
Ady posted a page back that George's son Jett tweeted "J J Abrams will do wonders!" so there is a source close to the source, at least.
Rather than assume visual style based simply on JJ directing, who do you expect to see him hiring as his production designer? I would love to see Stuart Craig here - his work on HP to create physical models whenever possible was pretty amazing.
What do you get when you cross Toy Story 3 with Star Trek '09?
Honestly... I'm "okay" with the choice...
I'd love to see him co-direct with Joss Whedon, tbh.
I definitely understand Ady not editing the ST - I'm really hoping that they are done well so that it's not necessary. With that said, my hope is that as he edits the PT, Ady takes ST continuity into account (if only slightly). It is going to be devastating if we are provided an amazing 6 part Revisited saga... that can't be watched cohesively with the ST. I'm assuming that shouldn't really be an issue, since the PT should be minimally mentioned in the ST... but when it comes to SW, you never know what could happen...
The problem with Jar Jar is that he is the only character in the film with a full character arc... My fear is that if they "fix" him, the film will focus even more on him - not intentionally, simply because our brains are searching for a specific zero-to-hero stereotype and Jar Jar fits the bill for the most part, just not pleasantly.
I think one of the biggest things missing from TPM was controversy between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Anakin should have known Obi-Wan didn't think he should be trained as a jedi, and been defensive about it and eager to prove himself. They could have bickered slightly, just a few short remarks back and forth. Obi-Wan, over the course of the film, should have grown to grudgingly like him, with the destruction of the Trade Federation ship being a catalyst for him taking Anakin as his apprentice. Including that in the film would have given Anakin and Obi-Wan their own arcs to rival and probably supersede Jar Jar's arc.
Instead we got a "last wish" from Qui-Gon, which left much to be desired...
If Ady can paint him out of the scenes, he is completely unnecessary and the film works without him - I cut The Phantom Menace to an hour without any of the other Gungans. Without the other Gungans, Jar Jar's story arc is compromised, allowing him to be removed from the film. I'm just not sure how the film can be fleshed out with all of them cut to be an acceptable length.
I believe L8wrtr didn't color grade at all - he did use Blu as his source, which is color graded. That is in contrast to the deleted scenes he reinserted which I believe were not color graded at all.
That's like asking someone schizophrenic to not take their meds for a few hours each morning so they can reminisce with the voices in their heads.
I'm partial to Alec Baldwin as Anakin 8)

*That was in no way meant to discriminate agains homosexuals. Just Bingowings :D
... that's right. He is.

along with "Before the Dark Times. Before the Empire"
"The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. I have just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away forever."
also, the Death Star is a completion of the plans seen in the PT.
I'm seeding this, but have some mf links up if anyone wants to PM me for them.
This was an awesome way to experience the Saga - a little rough around a few of the edges (a little bit of Obi-Wan's AotC stuff might be unnecessary, but could help split up Anakin/Padme and make their romance develop a little more slowly) but all around fantastic. I'd love to see this redone with the Blus, tweaked up just a bit and released at a little higher quality. Could be my go to version in a Star Wars craving pinch (whenever I can't watch at least two or three of the films... which is most of the time) :)
No, he "gets" them stalkers... ie he "understands how they feel and think" which ultimately means that he has no intention of becoming intimately informed of the inner workings of Bingowings. ;)
Easterhay, I truly mean no offense by this, but most of the regulars here have a working memory of your posting history on the site. You're not singled out - everyone kind of keeps tabs on everyone here, because personal preferences and opinions help us know how to interact with each other in a civil way.
Your personal posting history has been of interest simply because you came into this community with very strong opinions that you will vehemently defend - as well you should. In many applications, the best defense is a good offense (which is frequently how you come across) but forums really don't work that way. Forums operate on the principle that nobody should ever be on the offense. Everyone has a point to make and defend, but by sticking purely to defense we avoid an issues caused by offending other people. Try and look at a few of your posts objectively - you may know how you were feeling when you wrote them, but the rest of us often don't. Which is why often you're met with less than sympathy. Trying to help, not attack, seriously.
Now, back to the one armed Sith bent on revenge - Darth Mace :)
Come on guys, get with the program :P
It's not Hayden under there... it's Alec Baldwin:

Quite a bit being said about this on the facebook page - From what I understand, Ady intends to keep Vader similar to ANH vader, with some differences, and that the McQuarrie model won't be used because it is too dissimilar to the OT.
Here's a mockup of my earlier mockup leading the troops to the Jedi Temple:

Alright, that kicks major ass! I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to adapt that other than visual effects. That and introducing another Jedi for us to suspect.
Here's a twist... (had this idea for a while, not sure if I've shared it.)
Change Luke's name in the OT to Luke Lars. I mean, it's Leia Organa. Why did Owen and Beru keep Luke's last name, especially if he was in danger if anyone knew he was the son of Anakin Skywalker?

Ady, I think it would actually be really cool if you took the layout of this Starkiller action figure, and added a Vader Mask to it. That way, it's just enough Vader added in, without going over the top. It would also mesh better with the PT, since the Vader outfit would look a little off next to the PT Trooper outfits, since it was designed to be similar to the original Stormtrooper outfits.
Perhaps something like this (sorry for my AWFUL photo editing skills):

From Ady in a different thread on keeping the Vader secret:
If vader in the suit had been the one to storm the Jedi Temple then it would have gone along with what Obi-Wan told luke about Vader "hunting down and destroying the Jedi", but without spoiling the ESB revelation. In fact, that's exactly what i'm hoping to achieve in ROTS:Revisited. It's going to be very tough to acheive, but on the plus side this means that there will be a lot less of that whiny, emo, crap actor Hayden in the movie, which can only be a good thing
My head is spinning on how the rest of the movie plays out with that in mind...
(A crude attempt of mine at a ROTS Vader...):

My assumption would be that they wanted to kill the imperial troops on board.
Vader would have plunged the galaxy into unending civil war, with a constant disregard to individual planetary sovereigns. Rebellions would rise to fight the Empire, but Vader's total lack of guilt for murder would make it impossible for compassionate people to win, especially diplomatically. Vader would be a black hole, enveloping ever star system and galaxy possible. Considering his origins, he needs a continuing driving force to maintain his evil. Without it, I think he would fall into a deep depression and be usurped by those working under him.
