My only small suggestion/request is that perhaps you could reinsert the Ep 4, ANH crawl. The XO project scan should provide an awesome starting point, though I think that’s NTSC sourced so you may want to look into a PAL laserdisc rip. Or not - this looks great and is an awesome GOUT project. Otherwise, perhaps I could get a lossless copy from you to assemble it for myself without re-encoding?

What were your encode settings for this, btw?

Perhaps I’m wrong here, but wouldn’t it make more sense to fix the chroma shift in ESB before the processing and resizing?

When I see Frink’s, I immediately picture the ? Power Up Block from Mario Kart 64, complete with the sound it plays while choosing.

If I remember correctly, the 2004 DVD menus used the same video source, prior to color “correction”, which looked better than the actual films.

I’d just use BDtoAVCHD. Nice and simple, and you can set a custom target size in settings. I’d set to 15000 MB, and encode without any audio. Then add audio/subtitles with mkvmerge.

That, my friend, looks beautiful. It has that nostalgic home video feel. I honestly would love to have VHS audio captures included with this, then I’d really feel like a kid again.

1280x530 is a 2.41:1 AR which is incorrect.

The correct square pixel AR is 2.35:1, so it should be 1280x545.

Pal 720x326 is still slightly anamorphic and stretches to 768x326. This is equal to a 2.35:1 AR. The equivalent at 720p is 1280x545. So nothing should get screwed up in the process 😃

Slightly confused why you’re scaling to anamorphic PAL, or even downscaling to get to correct AR. I would just resize straight to 720p, which I believe is 1280x545 with add borders of 88 and 87. That should keep the increased resolution from EEDI2 better. Two Lanczos4 calls is going to reintroduce edge enhancement if I’m not mistaken.

Especially when you consider there are 2 Ewok movies and a Holiday Special.

Is this limited to color, or could you change other attributes? Like running say 5 different shots through PFclean, then letting the learning algorithm try and degrain based on the results.

Or using it to combine different sources- say you have two different sources, but one has more picture on the left and right or top and bottom (Fellowship of the Rings theatrical vs extended)

You manually combine a variety of the frames, adding as much extra picture as possible without causing uneven letterbox borders. You train the algorithm to accept the 2 source images, and a reference image with them manually combined.

Nothing personal lol I’ve played with it many times and never quite gotten the color I was hoping for.

And truth be told I preferred Neverarbot’s regrade over Neverargreat’s for the shot of Ben, Luke, and 3P0 on the cliff . 😜

I would actually really like to see examples of this used on ESB Grindhouse - perhaps with enough regraded shots the color could be lured out.
