Well, I mean, if Lucas didn’t want anything related to the OUT to be released, then we wouldn’t get 24 bit audio remasters of Lapti Nek and Yub Nub, right? After 93’ the original version of Jedis soundtrack ceased to be rereleased until recently.

Star Wars celebration begins April 13th so if Disney truly wants to put out the OUT remasters, then we’ll hear about it then.

Honestly, I would buy another Complete Saga box set if every cut of Episodes I-VI were included.
Sony stated why they didn’t use the newly remastered mixes for the CD release that coincided with the digital collection. They said and I paraphrase “Younger generations grew up on the SE scores so we decided to use the SE mixes for the CD release” youtube.com/watch?v=YuH7uznb2bU. But now I guess they decided to release the original soundtracks for streaming. I think this is a sign of cool things to come bois
Looks like the 2016 iTunes digital remasters just became available for streaming. Everything regarding the OUT has been released except for the dang movies themselves

The 93 disc that contains the film version of yub nub is not followed with the original ending crawl score though. They recycled Empires ending credit score for that track for whatever reason.
It’s reaching the point now for HD that we were at a decade ago for SD.
People were converting the laserdiscs to dvd, George released a transfer directly from the digital master tape itself.
Now people are doing the same thing using actual 35mm prints. The answer to this would be a transfer of something higher up the chain like an IP, sep, or the o-neg itself.
Robert Harris, the guy who restored films like The Godfather and Lawrence of Arabia, has claimed that immaculate
prints of the OUT exist. Either Disney is mastering those prints in 4K or they simply haven’t touched them for
whatever reason. Assuming what Robert said was is true
Or they’re working on a restoration but had other priorities (rebooting the series); ran into snags; waiting for the anniversary, etc. Could be anything, or what you suggested. The distributors cut though is so small I’d think it’d be better for Disney to release it before IX is released while interest is still higher and sales could be maximized.
Now that I did the math, I highly doubt that Disney wouldn’t care about an HD OUT release.
I combined all the views that Marcelo’s comparison videos and Harmys despecialized videos got and the grand total
was 84,062,000 views. With all that’s happened with Disney and FOX and George Lucas, the idea of an OUT HD restoration
not coming to Blu-Ray seems highly unlikely to me.
I dunno, to me, there are to many views on those videos for Disney to ignore. The demand is clearly there.

Alright, I thought so. Anyways, since Disney has no problems with FOX putting out Star Wars Blu-Rays of the special editions, then they should also have no problem with FOX putting out the original versions as well, or vice versa.
The only guess i have for as to why the OUT hasn’t been put out on blu ray yet is because Disney wants to maximize profits off the sales of those movies so they’re gonna wait for FOX to lose their rights in 2020. Either that, or they simply don’t care, which I would find very hard to believe but that’s an unfortunate possibility
I get the sense, from what Mike Verta had to say on the matter, that the Disney execs don’t seem all that interested in a theatrical version release (hopefully that changes once they hear his pitch). So I’m not sure if they have anything in the works. But on the other hand, we do know that Lucasfilm requested a scan of a print from the Library of Congress. So…maybe they do have something in the works? I dunno. I feel like there’s a lot of mixed signals on the official end of things.
But my optimism is more with this site and the projects people are doing. Even if nothing is released officially, projects here and only getting better and better. If we think Despecialized looks good now, it’ll look even better after utilizing DrDre’s tools and cleaned up Silver Screen Edition scans (& perhaps Technicolor scans in the future?).
Didn’t Mike say that his 4K restoration cost about 100K? To me, this information should be enough to persuade Disney to either release the OUT or begin restoring it. It’ll cost Disney practically nothing to restore these films and they’d make total bank. With millions of hits on those OUT and Special Edition comparison videos, and also the popularity of the despecialized editions, I would find it hard to believe that Disney is unaware of the demand for these versions of the films. I have a feeling it has something to do it FOX still retaining rights until 2020. Maybe Disney wants all the monies
That’s just his personal investment, not price of labor. An official restoration would cost much more.

Keep in mind, our sources are still telling us that there may also be a Blu-ray 3D box set of the Star Wars prequel films as well, and we’ll post more on that soon.

For sure. There’s no doubt about that.
For sure ? I wouldn’t bet. Here, on OT.com ? Yeah, obviously. Out, in the real world, I can tell you that most people don’t really give a damn about the OUT, especially the new generations. The PT in 3D is likely to be a best seller (for the 3D market at least). Even more if you add TFA-3D in the set. ROTS opening scene, AOTC Geonosis battle, TPM pod race… If it sells well, no doubt LF is gonna produce 3D version of the OT as well… if they aren’t already working on it… which could be great news for a OOT release in HD since they would first need to restore the 2011SE prints… and so to go back to the original original prints. But it’s a long process; if LF started 1 year ago, christmas 2017 could be the finished date. Christmas 2016 seems too soon.
If they really cared about George, then they wouldn’t have thrown all his ideas for TFA into the garbage
