The fam wanted to watch ROTJ tonight and I misplaced my despecialized copy…yeah I loathe the SE changes of ROTJ the most…I had myself leave the room because knowing my level of irritation would probably piss off some of the family members I am forced to deal with (PT is superior, TFA is bad). Oh boy…

So yeah…they need to release OUT officially on blu-ray and/or 4k…save me…

… and since I apparently need to own the blu-rays in order to ethically download and enjoy Harmy’s version and that’s never going to happen …

Even then, going through all the trouble of downloading Harmy’s version and burning it to a disc requires a level of technical know-how not everyone possesses. It’s no wonder people sell it on ebay.

I’ve been watching the auction for the Harmy blu-rays and it sold 34 copies this week. The same seller also has the first generation Holliday Special up for grabs for $20- its almost like 1995 again.

I’ve already reported the listing and you guys should too

I’m not sure why people are saying that there is going to be a big surprise at the 40th anniversary panel and jumping to this meaning they will announce the OUT being released. The report seems to have been twisted a little to suit this theory, when in fact the announcement actually is a little different:

“As is tradition, this marquee Celebration event will undoubtedly include many not-to-be-missed surprises.”

All this means is that there could be some surprises, usually surprise guests, unseen footage or something else along those lines. Same type of thing happens every celebration.

The sad fact is, if they don’t announce that they are releasing the theatricals at Celebration, then thats the end of it. It’s the optimal time to release them, being the 40th anniversary. In 2020, when Disney will get the full rights to the other 5 films, the next release will be the 3D prequel trilogy with a 4k SE trilgoy later once Disney start supporting the format. In this case the chance of seeing the OUT will most likely be AFTER George has passed. I wouldn’t put it past him to have stipulated never to release the originals. The only glimmers of hope is 1:-the strained relations between George and Disney since TFA went into production and he announced before they had a chance about the big 3 being in it and then them chucking out Georges treatments ( followed by the “white slavers” and other negative comments George made about disney and TFA) and 2:- better quality fan restorations and their greater media attention cutting into Disney’s chances of maximum profits for an official release

Here’s another glimmer of hope. John Landis said the release would happen.

Most likely a private screening in her own theater. Which version? Probably the Special Edition. Unless she’s a film collector and has an original print

Maybe…but I doubt it. A hunch tells me Cher wouldn’t post about this if she had control over it.

So you think she saw this at some theater somewhere? And you think it’s the OOT?

It’s one possibility.

As I said elsewhere…either:

  1. She or someone she knows has a 35mm print.

  2. She was watching a public showing of a new print which may or may not be the OUT.

Look at the things she usually posts about - they’re all very, very political. If she decided to throw on a blu-ray in her own home theater, I don’t think it would warrant a tweet. That makes me think it was “an event.”

This is probably the biggest stretch I’ve seen for possible OOT relation

I’ll believe Landis but not the Cher tweet theory

Episode I is not digital.

He had just done AOTC and was working on ROTS when the 2004 masters were done. He was already in all-digital mode, and I am certain he wanted the OT DVDS to aesthetically match up with what he was making at the time.

And he failed miserably each and every time. The only prequel that actually looks somewhat like an original Star Wars film is The Phantom Menace

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?
Time

So we know that the clippings have been kept and maintained. This has been officially confirmed. We know John Landis, a close friend of Lucas, said that the original versions of Star Wars are coming (didn’t say when though). We know that Disney isn’t afraid to release OOT related merch (The Digital/Vinyl Collection) and sure there’s a difference between releasing music and films but under George’s rule the last OOT soundtrack was released in '93 and we didn’t get them again until 2015 three years after Disney acquired Star Wars. I’m more hopeful than ever that the OOT is coming soon…

I remember hearing "The reason why the OOT wasn’t released in 2015 or '16 was because Star Wars needed more work done"
Anyone else remember hearing this? And did anyone find evidence supporting this theory or is this just internet nonsense

moviefreakmind mentioned hearing that from what he considers to be a reputable source on the Steve Hoffman forums.

Do you think this contradicts Robert Harris claim of the films being in pristine shape? If they were in pristine shape, then why does Star Wars need work done on it? Hmm
