STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>

Adywan, I was thinking, when you get to ROTJ, there are a ton of continuity errors and things IMO that need to be addressed. Like the Emperor's throne room window. We see the battle mixed with the star destroyers and the rebel fleet happening before the fleet merged together. It would be nice to include Endore in the veiw of the window and subtley moving as the movie progresses to work in continuity of the Death Star orbiting the moon. To make Endore an official moon, you should also show another bigger planet in the distance to make Endore an actual moon. I suggest you check imdb.com for continiuty errors listed for the movies on that site before you indulge in you edit of the film. There are a lot, so I hope you will be up to the challenge!

you might want to check here:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/ESB-and-ROTJ-Wishlist/topic/8826/

before you keep constantly posting stuff about 'ROTJ' here in the 'ESB' thread.

How many times do you watch Star Wars (OT,OOT, GOUT) - over a period of time?
Time
auximenies said:

Maybe once a month?  Or the entire trilogy once every 2 months?

I watch with my 2 daughters.  Once we watch one of them, they usually beg for the other 2 to be viewed in the next week or so.  We watch the GOUT.  Before that it was the Dr. Gonzo transfer, and before that it was my own edit from a FS VHS set.  Since my eldest at the time was a bit young, i edited out things like smoldering aunt & uncle, some of the wampa, Han being tortured.... things like that.  She also didn't like the emperor, so i edited out nearly every close-up of him.  Surprisingly, his dialog was well-divided between distant shots and close-ups, so the story could still be followed!  Anyhow, I put all three on a single VHS in SLP mode (!), and even put the Boba Fett HS Nelvana cartoon on there between SW and ESB.

We've also watched Adywan's Revisited, Revisited Purist, and EditDroid Isolated Score in lieu of the GOUT.

 he he..

maybe you should release a 'kid-friendly' edit version here on the board..

i'm sure a lot of people have kids that would like that..

Yes if that happened i could live with the Special Editions and the Prequels, I still would not love them but they would not have replaced the real movies from 1977-1983.

Sadly there is not a snowballs chance in hell of Lucas ever doing a proper restoration up to current industry standards (this would mean the oot could be shown theatrically again or be given a blu ray release) or he would have answered the fans and Robert Harris insistance on this being done now before the remaining prints and negatives are competely beyond saving.

I believe Harris even said just because the oneg was cut up for the special edition (a crime beyond words) he could savage it and undo those destroyed sequences.

Lucas saves everything practically there is no reason why we cannot get the mono mix for star wars, the 35mm mix and the 6 track mag.  I guarantee you lucas has these in the lfl archives and ben burtt and tom holman had access to them for the 1993 mixes and the 1997 mixes.

Tom Christopher and Ben Burtt undertook an exhaustive search for the old sound stems and elements in 1995 for the restoration of the soundtrack, they were in vaults underground, or elsewhere many at fox studios, samuel goldwyn or even at elstree in england.  Whatever else that was not lost was in Lucas own archives.

Lucas even mixed the old foreign dubs their is no reason those cannot be released as well for the purists.  You know people who care to hear the 1977 japanese dub or german for instance.   From what i know the foreign dubs were more finished than their american counterparts using all the changes from the mono mix though many were in stereo.

this is the kind of post that i like to read.

well thought out, succint, good research, and helps educate me..

Why was the '04 DVD set such a botched release?
Time
Molly said:

It's just my opinion, but to me, upscaled SD is obviously only a fake HD.  I can take a 640x360 video, play it at 1280x720, and it'll look like...640x360.  Maybe a little blurrier.

yeah, that's true, when you do a simple basic 2x, without anything else,

but who would do that????..

but when you do image processing algorithms on it, you can effectively improve it..

(not with detail) ...but with other effects.. so you run it on the series of images,

and the recombine them to video..

=========================

this is for images

http://www.articlesbase.com/software-articles/image-upsizing-best-methods-compared-211251.html

Reshade

This is the newest method from the ones I mentioned. It permits enlargements of up to 200% without losing any quality. This means that even an experienced photographer would have a hard time picking an enlarged version from an original photo.

=========================

this is for video: rescaling SD -> HD

http://www.digitalanarchy.com/resizer/algorithms.html

Two algorithms to rule them all.

ReSizer 2.0 has two algorithms. Well, it really has four, but only two of them are for creating your final footage. Use Best (Smooth) and Best (Sharp) for making SD into HD or just resizing the footage in general. When do you use one versus the other? That's pretty subjective but we have given a few suggestions below. The No Filtering and Fast options are for your pre-work.

check out the examples like:

http://www.digitalanarchy.com/resizer/exampleB.html

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and:

Video Enhancer can convert your video to any resolution with superb quality. Super Resolution is a technique of increasing images or video resolution. For each processed frame it uses information not only from this frame but also from other frames. If picture in your video doesn't change too fast, then information from several frames can be added to create a picture of a bigger size. No algorithms of ordinary image resize/resample can provide this quality just because there's not enough information in one frame. Here is a couple of examples:

http://www.thedeemon.com/VideoEnhancer/

====================================================

also check out:

Instant HD up-converts DV video into a variety of HD video formats. Choose from a list of preset resolutions to easily integrate DV video into your next High Definition production. When scaling from standard definition (SD) to high definition (HD), Instant HD's algorithms generate the missing pixels with integrated sharpening and anti-aliasing for sharp, clear results inside your favorite video application.

http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/products/all/magic-bullet-instant-hd/

there are plenty more out there..

has no one tried anything like that?

that's why i love image processing (i'm a math major, but never got to use

all those cool things in my jobs)..

there ARE ways of upscaling the image and making it look better..

you just have to try them..

How many times do you watch Star Wars (OT,OOT, GOUT) - over a period of time?
Time

ok,

i'll admit it also.. ever since i found this board,

i've been watching something star wars related (not necessarily the OT)

EVERY SINGLE DAY..

whether its a new clip from adywan, a fanedit,

a laserdisc, a CED/DVD or whatever , i'm just FLOODED with Star Wars video right now..

i have at least 20-30 versions lined up to be watched, include 6 or 7 high

def ones (including the PT too)..

i've got full screen versions, making ofs, thx, non-thx, the list goes on and on..

i've been watching the clone wars movie (shhhhhhhhhh) every other day now

since it came out at home.. (*AHEM*).....

and of course i've been playing around with video samples, and scripts too.....

this is the BEST time i've ever had to be a Star Wars fan ....

oddly, i haven't been able to watch a single movie in its Entirety though...

i usually watch them through once every few years.... mabye this year

will be the one, i finally get to watch the OT in high def, well if we get

if finished, that's my vow ....................i will not watch other OT versions

until we get the transfer completed somehow..

First

Is there a way to post a poll?

Secondly

-----------

Out of curiosity : How often do you watch any of the original trilogy,

SW, TESB, ROTJ [any format of the OT, vhs/laserdisc/dvd ]

during a given time period?

===============================================

every few days?

every few weeks?

every few months?

a few times a year?

over a period of years?

===============================================

just wondering ....

i fall into the very last category.

Actually you missed the point. We say the GOUT DVD sucks because it could have been better. You say I can make it much better with lot's of research and work.

I tried some of the improvements. But I don't want to do more research.

What did I pay 45 bucks for? So I can do their work?

you don't want to take advantage of all the FREE work done here?

but you would rather waste your money on something that you

will always complain about ????????????????????????????????

i guess you dont want to see any free restoration projects

that anyones working on either, (for free)????????????????

so .... easy, sell it, and  never bother watching it again.

No it's not very good. The picture will still have lot's of ghosting, faulty IVTC artifacts, lot's of film-defects and the scenes in the deserts still look like a big yellow blob. The only thing you get rid of is the instable picture and the windowboxing on WS-displays.

so have you ACTUALLY tried it, or are you just speculating,

have you tried tweaking the scripts?

have you asked for advice on improvements?

have you even bothered to give it a chance?

if you have, fine that's your opinion ..

i have a thought, why don't you help us fix it with

improvements, instead of just complaining about it?

BUT YOU COMPLETELY MISSED THE POINT AGAIN,

its not just about the technology, its about the

fact that we have the capability and the knowlege..

Right on!,

all of this is so true.

 if you're going to speculate,

prove to me you wouldn't care if the OT got restored...

would you quit this board? never complain again ?

no, you would find something else wrong, complain about some other

issue, the soundtracks wouldn't be right, there wouldn't be enough deleted scenes,

it would cost too much etc..

face it, you've gotten into the fact you've hated Lucasfilm, Lucas etc. so much..

that at this point, there is NOTHING THAT would satisfy you..

you would have no reason to come here,

and no reason to care about star wars anymore...

it's ironic isn't it?

I like Classic cinema, being stuck in the past as you call it.  The first 2 star wars films are considered classics.

They are the ones on the afi list not the special editions, that is if you care to note the films released in 1977 and 1980.

Raiders is a classic and so is american graffiti.

i love alfred hitchcock movies, i like classic cinema, i just watched citizen kane for the first

time earlier this year.... don't get me wrong ..... those movies have their place obviously.

(who said empire is a classic?).... anyways.... the AFI list has a lot of hits and misses for

me, but there's a lot of good stuff there......

so you like classic movies, great !

does that mean you will never like anything current? did movies die out for you in 1980?

i the 28 years that has passed, has there NEVER been a single movie that you liked?

i feel so sorry for you that you feel like you can never enjoy a movie again, or feel

there is anything good out there....

it makes me sad as a movie fan, that you feel the industry has declined so much..

honestly, there are so many amazing movies out there that have come out since

then... .you really should let yourself give them a chance..

and i agree with you about 'raiders', but not so much with american graffiti,

i really, really liked the grittiness of thx 1138 from Lucas, if you're only talking

about his films..

special editions are nothing but a personal fan edit by george lucas to satisfy himself and should never been released or allowed to supercede the classic versions.  Nobody would care if he released the oot in a real restoration. Instead we get 1993 laserdisc bonus discs.

so .................you , like  many others, are going to change the past?

going to travel back in time and retcon it?

you're allowing someone else to do something that will 'supercede the classic versions'?

wow, that's a good trick ... my definitive laserdisc editions, THX faces set, and all the other

ones are hiding in the corner away from the dvds..... i still have them, and enjoy them just

as much .....

how many times do you people watch these movies to get so aggravated anyway?

every day, every week, every month????

you mean, by thanking him for the excellent job done on the

THX releases of the OT?

or do you mean the excellent job on the DEFINITIVE BOXSET in CAV

on laserdisc?

or the excellent job with the japanese laserdisc boxsets?

or the excellent job with FACES release of the THX versions on Laserdisc?

or the excellent job on the FULLSCREEN versions of the Laserdisc?

you mean, by providing fans with the excellent, crystal clear, and great

soundtracks and remastering done on the Laserdiscs so that consumers

can buy it cheaply ?

and also releasing in pysical digital formats that will never die out, never get corrupted,

and remain in good preservation quality so that the rest of us can easily

archive it forever?  that's pretty good planning ...

and to make it easily available to buy now that we have online stores,

ebay, and everything else..... it does make me happy..

you mean, by creating the OT so that we would actually be here talking about it?

you mean , by allowing the films to be sold, so that we can actually get them,

and preserve them? [8mm, 16mm, 35mm]

you mean, by not closing down all the great fanedits out there?

you mean by releasing it on DVD, after all that time?

by creating and allowing a universe of the OT to be explored in books, videogames,

comic books, more theatrical releases, audiobooks, and all other kinds of merchandise..

hmmmm................... wow, there's so much more, i don't think i have space

to list all of them...

really? you're that grateful? yeah, so am I.

I really wish that was true, but according to the experts on this site and many others, you cannot create detail where there is none. I'm sure there are ways of making the GOUT look better, but it is never going to be hi-def resolution because the lines of resolution are just not there.

I think you are all missing my point.

i never claimed it was True HD, it's just a method that provides results that are very

good. My whole point is, its about learning about the technology, and the methods,

and the resources that are available on this board. Not whether it fits the technical

definition of what HD is.
