just off the top of my head...

Empire, Jedi,Aliens,

sequels

Raiders of the lost ark,  The Thing, Terminator,  Blade Runner, Robocop

to me, these are the ones that are very good (although

the thing is a remake)..raiders is a rehash of old themes,

and the terminator is combination of most cyborg like themes..

along with bladerunner and robocop

ET, Die Hard, Predator, Ghostbusters, Ferris Bueller, Spinal Tap, Breakfast Club, Amadeus, Big Trouble in Little China, Raising Arizona, Princess Bride, Scarface, Christmas Story, Lost Boys, First Blood, Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop, Karate Kid, [snip]

The 80's Rock.

along with usual collection of cop, drama, comedies, light 'sci-fi' and

fantasy.

not really standouts to me.

i'd still take any equivalent movie from the 70's.

what was it about so many 80s movies (worst movie decade ever) that had this look?

:O  Worst movie decade ever?  did i read that correctly?  wow, i don't even know what to say...

nothin' personal.  just speaking the truth.

i firmly stand by my stance as 80s being worst movie decade ever!!  Even if the 2000s had PT and Transformers.

your username is cobra kai - which means you like karate kid - which was pretty good.  but the problem is your views of 80s are skewed because you have fond memories of all the great and famous movies that came out in 1984- but that year was aberration.

Sure, the 80s had 2 OT movies, ROTLA, Die Hard, Spielberg, john carpenter, Oliver Stone and cameron.  but thats not good enough.  Most were like death wish 3 and 4, iron eagle, Ghoulies and friday the 13th part III- which I can enjoy, but in an awesomely bad way.  80s had movies like out of africa, terms of endearment, rain man (which i like),  driving miss daisy, chariots of fire winning oscars.  those movies would have gotten pwned in 70s or 90s (do people still say 'pwn')

only exception is maybe the 80s had some good comedy movies with john candy, john hughes, eddie murphy, akroyd and murray-while the 70s had fewer and far between good comedies.

80s = worst movie decade.  now, if you'll excuse me, I got superman IV on - its the part where nuclear man takes mariel hemingway into outer space.

 the 70's rock:

star wars, jaws, close encounters of the third kind,

godfather, apocolypse now, clockwork orange,

alien just to name a few..

the 80's, not so much. and after that .... hmmmm.. blank...

Info & Feedback Wanted: Binary Sunset - my attempt with Avisynth

Never mind.  I didn't like the stills at first from your revised version but I found it looks better in motion.

you still get a good idea of it

from the stills though.

the scenes do look better in motion.

but don't all of them?! sometime the

photography and cinematography do

stand out even in the stills to me.

Cropping the Original Trilogy : 35mm vs dvd (gout)
Time

TServo2049 said:

I'm not sure if the cropping is *completely* random. I will warn that the 0%-5%-10% boxes in my earlier comparisons may be inaccurate, since some of these screens were cropped or stretched by -1, and may be the wrong aspect ratio or not show the 100% complete frame area. Also, I had to do some guesswork with the binary sunset comparison, since there are no "landmarks" at the top of the screen.

very cool pictures and comparisons.

by the way, my aspect ratio is off on a lot of pictures,

but that doesn't change the overall percentages i posted,

which is just for comparison. when i do crop the sides, you

are seeing the entire picture unless i mention it.

I'm not sure how many more scenes in the film use the entire frame, since -1 hasn't shared many complete frames including the soundtrack and sprocket holes.

Hey -1, could you do more screenshots like these, just full-frame scans with soundtrack and sprocket holes, and 2x horizontal stretch?

i have all the han running frames. but now all my frames have

the sides cropped. i don't have any more full frames than the

ones i showed you for now. i can get more, but its going to be awhile.

taking a break from this project as others are taking over for me.

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!

A silent movie just won the Oscar for best picture, so there's still hope this "talking pictures" fad will also die a long overdue death. ;)

 it's not totally silent:

http://hamptonroads.com/2012/01/artist-lighthearted-entertaining-and-mostly-silent

-

The film has a few oddities and anachronisms. To begin with, it’s a silent movie about the birth of talkies, and that wouldn’t have been a subject for a silent flick.

The film is set between 1927 and 1932 but uses a couple of songs – Benny Goodman’s “Sing, Sing, Sing” and “Pennies From Heaven” – that weren’t written until later.

But be warned that it takes a different kind of concentration to watch a silent film and that “The Artist” is not totally silent. There are a few sound effects, such as a shocker when a glass tinkles, and a few spoken words.

Watching star wars - frame-by-frame slow motion : Cool stuff

You know, if you wanna have some stuff to check frame by frame, read IMDB's part of this page "Revealing mistakes": http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076759/trivia?tab=gf

There's a lot of stuff listed there.

yeah, i've seen some of those listed.

haven't checked the SE stuff.

but some of the original stuff would

be interesting to see how visible they are.

So usenet's alt.binaries.starwars is a place which at times has things which you are looking for.

I don't now how to use the side and I don't want to pay for illigal downloads. I am accustomed that partly unlawful is free of charge.

 newsgroup access is usually free.

but it depends on your internet provider.

there is no site... even with USENET providers,

they are just charging you access to their servers.

Watching star wars - frame-by-frame slow motion : Cool stuff

captainsolo said:

Agree that this is best done on LD. Especially with a player that has varying speeds of reverse/ff. Then you can have lightsaber battles slapstick style!

 actually, it's even easier nowadays.

any video editting program can do it..

i use virtualdubmod, and avidemux.

you can use the arrow keys. left goes back,

and right goes forward.

another way, is just export a short video sequence

to images. and use an image viewer (i use irfanview)

to go back and forth through them..

poor mans animation...  from the sequences i posted.

if you scroll up and down in the browser. you can

*almost* animate the sequence. scroll faster or

slower.

Watching star wars - frame-by-frame slow motion : Cool stuff
Time

ok,

after describing every single shot

in star wars: (need this for a project)

it took about a week to go through it

with breaks..

=========================

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/frame-data--star-wars-GOUT-NTSC-widescreen/topic/9567/

i realized there's a lot of cool stuff

in star wars that most people have never seen.

(well at least, i've never seen them before)

maybe it doesn't count as watching it.

because basically, you're stepping through

all the shots.

i'm NOT talking about bloopers, or continuity stuff,

colors, or cropping issues either..

but weird things on the screens, strange symbols,

reflections of the crew..

i like the greedo dummy 1 frame:

------------------------------------------

i'm sure there's lot of other cool things

in there if you look..

It would be interesting to see how some of these frames look without cropping -1, the large framing on the Special Collection LD in these scenes, reveals what looks to be what none described in another thread, light that bleeds between frames causing the neighboring frame to change color along the bottom and top edge. Don't know how visible it is on these frames but in motion its a pulsating and glowing light along the the top and bottom of the frame.

almost all the effect shots have a white frame, and you see glowing

across almost every single frame of these shots:

this shot should be next:

and lastly:
