Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

Yeah, sorry, the CAPS was a bit over the top. I wasn't really that mad, I just wanted to make the post extra visible. But it does have the effect of making it seem like you're shouting at the top of your lungs, doesn't it?

i'm sure you'll have to do it again a few

more times, once the bluray and avchd 2.1's

come out..

but posting in all lower case is

like whispering ...  shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..

I guess you'll have some seconds of just grain between the opening title cards (if the grain in the blacks hasn't been removed by the color correction). Of course having it on a mid-grey would be even better, since it would contain both dark and bright dirt.

actually, thinking about it now..

there are frames like that...in the raw scans.

so i guess we do have some after all, just didn't

think about how they could be used in another way.

(again, more technical things like this should be discussed

in the Technical forum, or in the general 35mm thread please)..

thanks

Star Wars - watch parties - are you planning one? previews/videos
Time

ok,

in preparation for our release.. and of course

with all the other ones out there.. are you

going to have a watch party with other friends?

(or by yourself...awwwwwwwww)

====================================

i know i am...

----------------------------

yes, i know that most of you can't go watch the

movies in a theater anymore for reasons we all

know.....

i know i'll be doing a screening in a theater near

me later this year, if it all works out... with a group

of people i know, and some family too....  it'll be

tricky to work out (sound) etc... and we'll fallback

on just a digital presentation.. but a local arthouse

theater has a deal where you rent the place out

for the night after hours.... and i've talked to their

management so it's just a manner of timing.....

maybe we'll squeeze in a 'grindhouse' preview

of ESB also???

anyways, back to more possibilities for the rest of you

========================================

1 watching harmy's v2/ v2.1

2 watching puggo's ESB 16mm (along with SW 16mm?)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

way back when last year.. me/cinch did our preview

of version 0 of ESB 35mm...

this year i've watched preview 0 of SW 35mm..

however, shortly we'll have more color corrected

reels to watch , so i'm going to get some friends

together to watch that also..

------------------------------------------------------------

watch this space .. video and screenshots

coming ....

-------------------------------------------------------------

so what are the details, and how are you guys

going to celebrate the releases that are coming,

or how did you do it for the ones that are out

now???

this should be a great year for star wars releases..

and there's more coming!!

let people know what you're doing, and

share the wealth!!!

negative1, a little offtopic request: do you have clean film cells which only contains grain and nothing more? There are some commercial projects regarding transfering film grain to digital and then use them as filters for digitally recorded videos. It would be amazing if you can provide us with some small samples (those official products costs hundreds of dollars).

no we do not have those types of samples.

i know what you're talking about, but we

don't use those.

Maybe someday, but I was assuming the other projects (such as ROTP) would have higher precedence.

But then, like -1 said, there's a lot of parts later that look more natural. I don't have as much of the 35mm to compare to as he does...

you can do some quick checks

with the emporer pictures:

Think i'm going to break out the cross fades as their own shot / line in the spreadsheet.  This way the data can always be split in two and recompiled.

Did a run thru Lee Thorogood's SWSE, and things hold up.  That line of investigation will continue: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Shot-List-Spreadsheet-v0505-6-films-publicly-editable/topic/13403/

negative1, anything you remember wanting to consider when running the numbers?  Or areas which might need a second look.  The credits being one example.  Might as well get one set of numbers ready for the people considering the wiki.

can't think of anything off hand,

except to join the VOB's initially so you

don't get the gaps with the missing frames like i did.

Can you be more specific regarding the "darker black boxes"?  I'm not sure exactly what you're talking about.  If I knew I might be able to figure it out.

Wrong wording, sorry. I meant transparent.  There's these pesky little transparent vertical stripes on the left third that appear in the same place in different levels of visibility throughout all three reels at different points. They're more visible in motion.

yup, i've seen them also..

there's also a scene at 9:00min when luke is hanging in the

ice cave, where there is a color shift that made it look like a

new scene... (nevermind, it's just the ice beasts shadow moving)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

just finished doing a complete frame-by-frame watching of

both the 16mm and the 35mm simultaneously.... i had them

both running in 2 vlc windows at synched them up (with

adjustments during the breaks/vobs/etc).. overall they match

up in scenes very well..

1) there is definitely more grain in PSB.

2) the initial hoth scenes have a much darker blue tint in PSB

3) the rest of the movie seems to have more contrast, and

a darker orange/red coloring to it..

4) the amount of cropping on PSB is quite a bit compared

to the 35mm (even with the full frame shown as is)

still it's very cool to see how well they both look,

i remember doing some comparisons with the sample you

put out earlier..

i'll have to put out some more now that it's released..

Thanks everyone for the very kind feedback.  It was fun, abeit slow, to put together.  Working in the little nooks and crannies of my time, this one took a year and a half.

Return of the Pug - watch the ROTP thread.  It should come together similar to PSB.  Adywan color correction is the next step; it's slow and a bit frustrating... the last copy of the capture that I sent him was lost in the mail!  That killed a couple of months, because mailing parcels from California to the UK seems to take about a month - and that's airmail first class.  Ugh.

that's too bad..

i've never had problems getting or sending stuff to

the UK. that happened with insurance and tracking?

and it's never taken that long either.. must

have been bad luck.

hopefully it will work out this time.

what you see is the original screencaps

from the english VOB version. i take it

you are using the same?

For GOUT reference, I am using my copy of DarkJedi's V3 DVD.

I'm going to do more examples of the GOUT framing as compared to your high-resolution images from the color timing thread. I'll link to them here once I've posted them in the cropping thread.

not that it should make much of a difference.. still..

but why not just use the official GOUT DVD'S?

that's the source reference.
