Info Wanted: ANH.....Revisited or Purist???
Time

ah, didn't realize there was a quality difference. But if we used Revisited for the edit, theres the problem of the slowdown of Ben's death.....picture wouldn't match sound. We'd also have to edit all the extended intro scenes (intro to the death star, intro to the tie fighters in the death star battle) as they are longer than the purist versions.

@ Crygor64......you say that you dont mean to flame or piss people off when you come and say things like that....but heres the problem with that statement: You come into a thread with an arrogant attitude, proclaim your opinion as higher than everyone else's and then proceed to deride anyone when they disagree with you. You put words in people's mouths.....you tell them what they are thinking in their own heads....and you insult them openly by saying they are as bad as the person that they are here speaking out against........and all of it (and heres the best part)....all of it is done in a thread, and in a section of this website, that you disagree with....therefore you MUST know that the people found within will NOT agree with you, but you choose to come and say it anyways. Basically you just walked into a kid's birthday party and told the parents you don't like the color of balloons they chose. I'm all for open discussion, but it really seems like all you were trying to do was cause trouble and piss people off.

The Hobbit Rankin/Bass Animated Film..... (Released)
Time

Ok, the color correction process is moving along nicely.........one of the next things we'll need is a DVD menu.........who's handy with making DVD menus? I can supply the artwork, I just need someone to turn it into an interactive menu. The artwork of the menus on the official DVD is just too cheery and lame looking for my tastes......but perhaps the menus and all could be kept if there was a way to replace just the background image? I'd like to change the music as well if possible.

So does anyone have any thoughts on this? Can we just change whats there or do we have to start from scratch?

I didn't make an edit...I simply played with the contrast settings on my screen.............it was noticeably darker than it should have been in areas that I know I had seen detail, so it seems that my screen just needed to be set to that particular DVD

There is no data in the complete black areas.

I found that there was an even greater darkness than usual, and when I played with the contrast it greatly improved alot of this. Having said that, I agree that Lucas has toyed with these so much that he's ruined alot of what WAS there and is no longer.

I don't know if it was due to me watching the movie on a very bright day, but the picture was a bit too dark and contrast-y in some places. Still, miles better than the DVDs even in the "worst" parts...

Had the same issue. Solved it by taking one of my screens many preset settings and changing it to fit Adywan's Revisited. Basically its just a contrast issue. The image info IS there, you just have to pull it out of the black a little

Ok, been talking with Adywan, and it seems that the edit I have in mind is going to be exceedingly simple to acheive....problem is, I was hoping to be able to use the DVD menus and extras that he has created as well and he is of the opinion that this will be impossible. So in the spirit of opening up the floor to other ideas and opinions....is there anyone out there who might have an idea of how to maybe re-work or redo the menus and extras so that they fit on a new edit?

Basically the problem is the re-edit would have a different running time and therefore the chapter menus would no longer work.

The little bits of footage for all the menus exist on the DVD-9....is there anyone who could rework a new menu with the existing material?

Edit: PM from Adywan:

Just been chatting to someone i know and they said there may be a way to keep everything but you would need to accurately change the chapter timestamps in order to do it.

Ady has said that the Emperor scene will be reverted back to the 1980 dialogue (or as close as is possible), while keeping the new Ian McDiarmid Emperor from 2004, with some visual alterations to make him look more like he does in ROTJ.

I had understood that he was using ROTJ footage to create his hologram and ditching the 2004 emperor completely....anybody got clarification on this?

Hello Adywan,

I just wanted to say that I absolutely love your version of A New Hope.  It beats out George's cut by a mile.  I love the editing of the hut scene and the coloring.  The only thing that keeps it from being perfect for me though is the music during the Obi-Wan/Vader fight scene.  I tried your "Purist" version but that got rid of some of the edits you made that I liked.  I don't know how difficult it would be for you to make and possibly upload a version of A New Hope with everything except for the changed music in the Vader fight scene, but if you did, you would have one very happy fan.

Thanks and I hope you continue doing what you're doing for a long time.

A version like what you describe is currently in the works, as I found myself in exactly the same predicament as yourself. Keep checking the forums, I'll be posting more news as this project moves forward.

I'll admit, I've never really understood why you're going to be new filming physical elements for ESB:R. Would it be too much to ask for an explanation of your reasoning? I am confused.

I had a brief exchange with Ady concerning his new filmed elements for the wampa....as I never understood why he'd want to change it either, and I must say he definitely put my concerns to rest. I just checked and would have copied and pasted the pertinent partof the convo, but I had already deleted it. Basically it boils down to Lucas never being able to resepct previously filmed material already included in his movies, and always wanting to go bigger and better when filming new additions. The wampa he filmed for the SE looked nothing like the one in the footage that already existed, and Ady wants to fix this. He is also of the belief that showing so much of the wampa destroyed the suspense of the scene. I definitely felt like I was being very annoying in asking him to justify the changes he was making in an edit that he's doing for free, and for himself, but he was very kind in explaining everything to me, and I think he really understand what it means to be a true fan of star wars and NOT someone who is just bent on giving the movies HIS own spin.

And muddyknees, yes that would be fine as long as no donations are taken for any copies of the DVD. If they want to donate on their own accord then that's fine.

Alright then, I'll definitely set this up so that all works out on the legal side of things. I want this money to be able to be put to good use. I'll let you know how things are progressing when I have more news.....might be about a week or so (still waiting for my copy of Revisited in the mail)

Ok, I've ironed out a few details for my Adywan fundraiser. I dont have copies of the film yet, but I found someone on these threads that was kind enough to ship me copies, and once I get them, here's what I'm going to be doing:

I send out the invite to everyone I know to be a star wars fan, asking them to come at the specified time and date, bringing with them drinks of their choice and ANYONE they know to be interested in Star Wars in any way shape or form. I will be asking everyone to bring with them a $20 bill that they can afford to part with, but specifying that they are in no way obligated to do so. I will explain that this event is of importance to anyone who hates what GL has done to the star wars movies.

Once they've all arrived, perhaps a VERY brief explanation about what they are about to see and then jump immediately into the film. Once its done playing, perhaps a quick exploration of the dvd menus to further impress everyone, and then I'll give a little speech. I will explain that first of all, this DVD is available online for free, but that secondly its also available immediately from me, for a $20 donation.....and explain that all funds are to go to Adywan's Revisited project.

So there it is, nothing terribly over the top, very simple to pull off.....alternatively, halloween is coming up, if anybody wanted to do a costumed version of this kind of event it would be relatively easy.....and might just get people even more into the spirit of this thing. I will be posting a message with details of how things went and (hopefully) how much I raked in to help Ady) once this is done

I think that's a fan-made (that is, Photoshopped) poster.  I doubt it exists in poster form, though it may exist in higher res than that.

Oh, and you don't need to make 5 posts in a row.  There's an "edit" button for a reason.

See?  I just used it.

I asked because I know it exists and that it was up for sale (which was why I stated that I was looking for someone who bought one)

And granted, there may have been one or two of my posts that could have been combined (the first ones were made while I was still quite new to the forum experience)......but when I'm trying to make sure that everyone reads my new posts, especially when I'm looking for something I'll make a new post everytime I have something new to say. (if you'll look at the dates you'll notice that many of those posts are made days apart)
