I’m more disturbed by Batman Forever getting a 5/10. Granted, that is a solid F, but I don’t understand why anyone finds much redeeming quality in it.
I find it highly unlikely that God, if it exists, cares about anyone specifically. If it did, it would be choosing some people over other people and that’s a pretty shitty thing for a God to do.
But I could be wrong!
And if he did, then he wouldn’t be very likable. Or worth worshipping at all.
Meanwhile, I know God exist inasmuch as I know I exist and that other people I encounter in real life also exist. I also know he cares about me in a similar way that I know other people who are close to me care about me. For me to say I’m not certain God exists would be in the same argument of positing that I don’t really exist nor any of my family or friends.

I don’t know if the Before trilogy will mean as much if I watch all three one after another, instead of waiting a decade or so for the next one.
All time blurs together for me so I’m safe there.

I don’t like the idea that conscience is related to God. I’m very secular in morality. The idea that we need God at all to be empathetic people is, in my opinion, unfair.
I believe God is love, and I believe that love permeates the universe, and us in turn. It’s an innate attribute of our being; our ability/inability to recognize the source is immaterial.
I ain’t the most loving guy, in case you haven’t noticed, but I like to think that I behave ethically and decently toward others at least most of the time in spite of my horrible character flaws.

Can anyone tell me if the Before Trilogy by Richard Linklater is worth watching sooner rather than later? It’s been on my list for a while but I haven’t bothered with it yet. I know it’s supposed to be great, but my question is: should I prioritize watching it?
It’s a great watch for sure, but that’s a tough question to answer. Depends on what other stuff is on your watchlist I suppose.
Right now the remake of the Karate Kid with the girl in it is on my watch list if that gives you an idea.

I love how right-wingers claim to love the electoral college now purely because it gives Republicans an advantage. They say, “Well, if it weren’t for the electoral college then people in California and New York’s votes would count for something.” Yeah, that’s how the democratic election of a representative works.
Well we’re a democratic republic, which I guess means that if you live in a more populous area, your voice matters less.
I know I’m being pedantic, but over-representation of rural areas is not in any way a by-product of a democratic republic. I know people say that all the time but they are all completely wrong. The fact that votes cast by people who live in less populated areas have more weight than votes cast by people in more populated areas is mostly just a function of how we chose to implement federalism in the US. There are other ways to implement federalism, and you can also have a democratic republic with no federalism at all, so that this is a non-issue. Democratic republics and our electoral college mess are apples and unicycles. There’s no link.
Technically you still have a little over-representation of areas with lower (or negative) population growth in a democratic republic (which tends to skew rural, but not always), due to the fact that the census is not continuous and is instead based on snapshots in time. But if that were the only issue we were struggling with, our democracy would be in good shape today.

I think society needs a healthy does of prudishness sometimes.

I want to bitch about words getting censored even though it’s obvious what the word is, particularly in writing. I was reading something about the Dire Straits since they got inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the lyrics to “Money for Nothing” were written, “That little f#ggot with the earring and the makeup.” I mean, why? All seeing “f#ggot” does is make me think of the word faggot in my head. It’s so stupid. I can almost understand bleeping the word when spoken aloud, but I don’t get censoring it in writing. It’s like these idiots think that seeing a word will somehow taint someone. We still know which word they’re using FFS!
They’re way to colorful and revolting. Not as bad as the Australian ones though.
