I sent an email offering to give Jeff Bezos five dollars if he continues the Expanse.

The guy in the middle is really enjoying himself.
I have to give you credit. This sentence made me laugh harder than anything I’ve ever read on this site.
I didn’t know that piece of trivia. The story of Rocky, the movie, is pretty inspiring in that Stallone wrote it and it was his first real film and it cost under a million dollars to make and went on to be one of the most iconic films ever and even winning Best Picture at the Oscars.
My health has actually been pretty poor since I was about 14 and it gets better and worse in phases. My social situation is better now than it’s been in a couple years because I found someone special to me. I don’t really know what people think I look like. Some people to this day insist I’m handsome but I don’t think I am at all, I think I look kind of evil.
I think Rocky II handles the sequel trope of repeating the first film in an intelligent way. Rocky struggling to find work is sad but his victory over Apollo is, in my opinion, as inspiring as the stalemate in the first.
The parts of life that I enjoy don’t involve bettering my health.
From my experience with women being considered a handsome man is more about your choices in how you present yourself than anything else. Being healthy, well groomed, knowing whether you look better with or without facial hair, hairstyle, being at a healthy weight etc. Mostly things you can control.
I’m anemic, ungroomed, underweight and not interested in controlling any of it. You are right though.
Was he nice about it?
They also changed the title to “Parker Lewis”. They dropped the “Can’t Lose” and then the show got cancelled.
Hang on, I like ST VI, but inspirational?
Same question for Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club.
I’ll explain. ST VI depicts overcoming prejudices that you’ve held your whole life in order to find common ground and help people that used to be your enemies. The Cold War metaphor is powerful and I find that inspirational. Also, Kirk’s character arc is basically overcoming racism. At the beginning he wished death on all Klingon’s and by the end realized how awful that was and became a hero. I’ve always really loved that movie and I think it’s the most intelligent of the ST films.
Pretty in Pink is a personal favorite. I was a poor kid in a rich school and was self-conscious about it. I guess inspirational may not quite be the most accurate word for this one, but I still feel inspired by it.
The Breakfast Club inspired me and still inspires me to empathize with people that are completely different than me.
Also, I’ve never once been approached by some friendly person asking for money. That’s pretty weird.
How is that weird? It happens to me. I’m guessing you don’t live in the same city I do.
I’m not talking about friendly needy people that ask for charity, which I’m assuming is what you might be talking about. I was more thinking about people that act nice to you in order to get you to let your guard down so that you’ll give them money once they ask for it, which is how I pictured what Handman referenced about people being nice for money. That’s not something that’s ever happened to me and I think it’s weird to assume that all friendly people are planning on requesting money handouts.
This is a thread for listing films that inspire you!
My list:
Wizard of Oz
Rocky
Rocky II
Rocky Balboa
Creed
The Breakfast Club
Karate Kid
Pretty in Pink
Forrest Gump
Stand By Me
The Shawshank Redemption
A Hard Day’s Night
Woodstock
Boys Don’t Cry
Philadelphia
Good Will Hunting
The Great Dictator
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Off the top of my head I can’t think of any more but I’ll add them if as I think of them.
It’s very rare that people, outside of customer service situations, are straight up rude for no reason. That behavior is pretty frowned upon these days. My problems with the public has little to do with mean people. Also, I’ve never once been approached by some friendly person asking for money. That’s pretty weird.
I love the zoo.
Does this series deserve to be as forgotten as it is? You decide!
I don’t know what I would’ve been banned for. I’m definitely not a Trump supporter, just thinking about him makes me throw up.
Watch Rocky II, it’s always inspirational.
I’d call myself handsome if I were but I look terrible so I won’t.
What?
Sort of?
No a lot of people are nice just for the hell of it. I never denied that, I just find such behavior offensive. 😉
The lying media?
Lying is probably the wrong word. I should’ve said that they just gave Trump a disproportionate amount of coverage, especially at the beginning, and didn’t actually point out that everything he said about policy was objectively moronic. I’m basically blaming them for legitimizing his candidacy in the first place.
well, whenever i compliment random people they (for the most part) look quite happier afterwards.
I’m sure it’s mostly just a hang up of mine.
I get really uncomfortable when strangers compliment me. It doesn’t happen much anymore because I look terrible and rarely am around strangers, but it still makes me uncomfortable.
Well that ruins the whole experience doesn’t it?
