They were pretty one-sided disputes.
They were pretty one-sided disputes.
And bullies can be pitied. Some of them have really shitty lives, which is sometimes why they end up becoming bullies. Plus, kids are stupid and don’t know what they’re doing. It’s best to not hold too much against them.
The only way to stop a bully is to violently assault the bully.
Lately I sleep about 13-14 hours a day.
Is there any particular reason why?
What else am I going to do?
It also didn’t resemble a joke.
Lately I sleep about 13-14 hours a day.
Personally, I hope that I live to see the apocalyptic destruction of the Earth.
It is. If someone says “the n-word” and someone else says “n-,” then both of those people are both saying the exact same thing, one of them is just too weak to actually say what he means and has to resort to childish substitutions that four year-olds use to refer to dirty words. I’m tired of Americans bullshitting themselves into thinking they’re better than they actually are. You should check out George Carlin’s bit on euphemisms if you want to see something hilarious and insightful on the way Americans like to put forth minimal to downplay language rather than actually deal with the issue. You know what I think is damaging? Racist motherfuckers that don’t value certain races as much as their own. These fuckers are in our government, they’re in our law enforcement, and they’re everywhere. You know what I don’t care about? People that don’t substitute the word n- with “the n-word” because they can’t comprehend context.

In case it isn’t already clear, I absolutely do not condone the use of the word ‘nigger’ in any context other than discussing its use by racists. What about saying it when playing a racist character, in something like Roots?
It’s funny that you bring this up because To Kill a Mockingbird is commonly read by jr. high-school kids and in Southern states it gets banned or removed from the curriculum all the time. And it isn’t because black people want it banned, because they don’t since the book is very progressive and is actually against racism, even thought the word n_____ is used frequently. It’s almost always racist white people that ban the book to hide a piece of literature that portrays the south for how racist it is.
Okay, so obviously it has changed. They weren’t supposed to be sold, then they were, and now they aren’t. And clergy is a misleading word to use. Even the pope himself was involved in scamming people out of their money for indulgences. I’m tired of this refusal to even acknowledge things that are documented fact. I don’t get how you could say that “nothing’s changed there,” when the practice has been different depending on who is in charge. It’d be like if I said that black people (or black men anyway) in the southern United States were able to vote ever since Reconstruction because of the 15th Amendment. Nothing’s changed there, now we just have the Voting Rights Act. It’s really misleading because yes, legally blacks were allowed to vote, but it was common practice and basically the law of the land in racist southern states to deny them their right to vote. So no, it actually has changed.
Saying the “n-word” instead of n_____ when you’re referring to the word is childish and pathetic. We’re not five year-olds. Saying “the n-word” just makes everyone think of the word n_____ in their heads. I refuse to be drawn in to such foolishness and anyone who can’t comprehend that saying the word nigger in reference to the word itself isn’t offensive is so lacking in situational awareness that I don’t care about their feelings and I hope that I offend them. I doubt that this is the only reason this guy was fired, though. It may have just been an excuse to get rid of him if that’s really all it was because this is so flimsy that he’d probably be able to sue for wrongful termination.
I’m so sick of people that can’t comprehend context dictating how people use the English language. And now everyone wants to have their own n-word these days. Apparently bitch and cunt are too offensive now, and the latter is supposed to be called the “c-word”. Retarded is now supposed to be the “r-word”. F_____ now is supposed to be the “f-word” but we already have an f-word that people are too scared to refer to so now what do we do? It’s ridiculous. My solution is to just grow up and refer to words and stop treating them as though their mere utterance will damage some fragile person that’s too stupid to understand context.
But you have to admit the Catholic Church has changed a lot since the Middle Ages. If it were still the same as it was, Pope Francis would endorse burning me at the stake.
Yes and no. The teachings of the Church haven’t changed,
Indulgences?

I wasn’t talking about murdering and jailing people, and if that’s what you meant by “tyrannically banned,” it wasn’t clear to me. I certainly agree that that was usually immoral.
In reference to murder, that was always immoral if you care about what Jesus Christ supposedly said. He condemned the death penalty clear as day when stopping the adulterous woman from being stoned.

Since Twitter is now an acceptable source, I’d like to share this excellent, concise takedown of Peterson’s lies on the history of Nazism.
Matt Dillahunty:
"Jordan Peterson thinks professed atheists actually believe in a god… but the Nazis who had “Gott mit uns” on their belt buckles were an atheist regime.
How long before his 15 minutes are up?"
Jordan Peterson vs. Free Speech.
I wonder if the other liberal members in this thread who take issue with Jay’s comments also think your hypothetical criticisms of conservatives are dishonest and unfair.
I would assume so. I don’t know. It doesn’t really matter to me what they think.
Well it matters to the extent that others are expressing similar complaints about Jay’s comments that you say nobody cares about anyway (though you don’t care what those other people think). I don’t expect you to answer for others, of course.
No one particularly cares about the content of his comments beyond them being overly-broad swipes at liberals in general over vague references to actions committed by some leftists.

Tell me, if someone were to say to you that abortion is not a huge and controversial issue, would you waste time trying to convince the guy that he was wrong?
Ok, I am going to re-word this to make crystal clear what I meant here.
Tell me, if someone were to say to you that 1 + 1 does not equal 2, would you waste time trying to convince the guy that he was wrong?
That’s a horrible example. It’s probably the worst and most inaccurate analogy you could possibly have chosen. The right claims that illegal immigration is a huge threat to the nation. I, and others, have said that that threat is largely manufactured and isn’t a huge “problem” as in it isn’t a huge danger to this country. You, for some reason, refuse to drop this idea that we’re somehow saying that illegal immigration isn’t controversial, which no one said. Then you don’t even articulate why you think it’s so irrational for us not to find illegal immigration to be a horrifying threat to the American way of life. Yeah, that situation is nothing like someone claiming that 1 + 1 doesn’t equal 2.
See Jay, just stop criticizing liberals and you’ll be okay 😉
Oh my God. Can you two people really not figure out that it’s ridiculous and unreasonable to just lump all liberals in with the stupid people of the left? I’m sure Jay would have a big problem, and probably attribute the behavior to ‘modern liberals’, if I said, “The problem with modern conservatives is that they keep having Nazi rallies and running people over that try to counter-protest them.” Something tells me that Jay wouldn’t think that this was intelligent commentary.
Your “oh my God” made me laugh. What Jay said was he has come to expect an inability to weigh nuance from modern liberals. If you think that’s unfair, fine. But the complaint instead was that he said something bad about liberals (that he was using “liberal” as an epithet). Imagine instead of your Nazi analogy, you said what Jay said, but about “modern conservatives” (talk about an oxymoron, amirite?).
If I complained that you were using “conservative” as an epithet by saying you expect an inability to weigh nuance…I think that clearly misses the point.
What? That’s not all he’s blamed on “the left” and “Democrats”. He’s attributing purity tests, language policing, mass hypocrisy, etc. etc. on “the left”. The wording changes sometimes, but it’s usually “the left,” “modern liberals,” “liberals,” and language like that. Perhaps a less extreme example from me would be, “The problem with modern conservatives is that they refuse to disavow neo-Nazis,” or “The problem with modern conservatives is that they disregard the Constitution,” or “The problem with modern conservatives is that they condone police murder,” or “The problem with modern conservatives is that they vote for idiotic reality TV stars,” or “The problem with modern conservatives is that they condone voter suppression.” It’s dishonest and unfair. The reason I gave you an “oh my God,” is because you can’t, or refuse to, wrap your mind around the fact that no one (literally no one in this thread) has said that you can’t criticize liberals.
Sure, that kind of statement, no matter how true, can derail discussion. But Jay is clearly speaking as a frustrated liberal himself.
No he isn’t. He’s clearly parroting Dave Rubin/Steven Crowder talking points.
If I complained, as I have previously in this thread, about conservatives I don’t think that crosses any line either.
Not the point. No one cares what he complains about.

FWIW Frink tried to help Sluggo but Frink failed,
Come on, Frink! Even mfm could’ve done that.
That is a good one.
It’s based on nothing. He might as well have said that “People who think life isn’t worth living don’t spend their time encouraging people to travel the world and experience the excitement and diversity of human culture and cuisine,” or make music, or write books, or whatever. It’s ironically a totally irrational statement, which is what I’m supposed to be guilty of. And I didn’t even say that I wanted to kill myself, by the way.
Warbler: Why is illegal immigration a problem?
Quit drinking. He could explain it to you, but he won’t. But believe me, his explanation would be AMAZING.
