Star Wars theatrical versions not coming in 2015
Time

I don't understand why anyone other than an overly-obsessive collector would buy the steelbooks. I would imagine most people who want to own the films on blu ray have already purchased the current incarnations by now. The new artwork isn't even very appealing (at least not in my opinion), and if you only want the original trilogy regardless of whether it's the special edition then you already have had the ability to buy the OT on blu ray separate from the PT. 64% of the very few reviews of the OT steelbooks are 1 star on Amazon which is good. Hopefully they'll get the message with this release.

It is odd that they would bring that ad up (then again this may be a 20th anniversary of that release). It's almost offensive as it feels like they're rubbing in the fact that the originals are gone. Then again it could be a sign that they're going to release it again someday. I'm at a point where I just want someone to comment on whether it will be released or not and why. I just want an answer. At least with George Lucas we knew where he stood. With Lucasfilm under Disney I just have no idea.

Ask the member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints AKA Interrogate the Mormon
Time

How does the Mormon Church view Joseph Smith in general, is he believed to be a man or divine? He's interesting in that he is a very documented historical figure that isn't shrouded in mystery since in the grand scheme of things, he was pretty recent. How does the Mormon church reconcile some of the things he did such as changing his stance on polygamy, and his practice of polygamy in general since 1 Timothy says that a church elder should be the husband of one wife. Plus I believe towards the end of his life he was arrested for polygamy amongst other things, which the Bible says in Romans 13 that Christians are not supposed to resist governing authorities. So even if polygamy isn't wrong, wasn't it anti-biblical for him to break those laws in the US in the first place?

I hope I'm not being offensive in asking these things, because I'm not trying to be, I'm just genuinely curious to hear about it from a Mormon perspective.

Even if you have a computer good enough chances are The Sims 3 will still crash since EA out and out lied about the system specs on the back of the box and there are huge problems like memory leaks.  The only reason it has run so well for me is that I use patches made by a fan group called NRAAs, fans had to fix the game.

Still it is the last EA game I can find that doesn't require an internet connection so I was able to get it use at a thrift store.  There are not many games I can say that about these days and I am enjoying play it as Dr.Forester and TV's Frank! right now.

I played the Sims 1 with my sister all the time, and then I played the Sims 2 quite a bit. Once I got to the Sims 3 though I had this problem with the game crashing on my computer, so I installed it on my old computer on a whim and it actually worked fine somehow. I doubt I'll ever get the Sims 4 though since my computer is outdated and I just haven't been sold on the game yet

I feel like the reason he does this in everyone's threads is both to spread the word regarding their projects, but also because if Disney releases a satisfying product, then their project would be invalidated. He often goes further than only saying "there's no demand for anything Star Wars related" (which is pretty much all he comments about in any threads other than their own) and goes on to say that fan restorations are the only hope to ever see the unaltered movies. It's kind of pretentious.

It's really getting on my nerves since they post it in so many threads now.

The Historical Discussion Thread: All Discussion Pertaining to History is Welcome
Time

I recently found a nearly 120 year old anthology book of historical primary documents that was being given away for free at my local library. It's pretty interesting to read, and the footnotes are pretty cool since they come from historians of a time when the Spanish-American War (which they refer to as the "Spanish War") was a current event

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?

This is what was reported  for the SE versions:

========================================

It ultimately cost $15 million to restore all three films. Fox, which owns "Star Wars," put up $10 million to refurbish the film. Lucas, who owns the subsequent films, contributed $5 million to revamp "The Empire Strikes Back," which arrives Feb. 21, and "Return of the Jedi," due out March 7. (Fox will spend in excess of $15 million to launch the re-release.)

http://articles.latimes.com/1997-01-28/entertainment/ca-22867_1_star-wars

Disney would be fortunate to be able to come up with any money near that amount to restore the originals. Although, there are a lot more variables to contend with now, than there were in the past. So taking into account inflation and other variables, it would definitely be higher than that.

Team Negative1

But we don't know how much of that money went towards the new effects. I'm not an expert on anything, but I'm assuming that a significant amount had to have gone to the SE changes seeing as how pretty much all effects were recomposited or altered in some way. Also, weren't the films in bad shape, preserved terribly, and had to be chemically restored? Those reasons also contributed to the expensive price tag. The context of that restoration is no where near the circumstances these films face today. Plus they don't even have to restore chopped up negatives (IIRC someone posted a source that pointed towards the physically altered negative not being the case) to give us a half decent release. Saying that restoring the original films would cost more than it did then is absurd seeing as how this time they aren't spending millions on CGI, and I'm guessing that greater efforts went to preserving the films than before the SE restoration. Even still, there are more sources than the negatives. You should know that seeing as how that's the entire basis for your project.

Well I view it 3 ways. You have fans who prefer the OUT, fans who prefer the SE (any of them), and fans who aren't concerned otherwise and will watch the film's regardless of what versions they are. When you break it down the real battle is only between the first two groups of fans. The last will be happy with whatever. So I wouldn't say the OUT fans are a minority but they shouldn't be the target audience that Disney's aiming for should they reissue the OUT. As much as I prefer the OUT over the SE, I'm not gonna be part of the crowd that goes 'you're not a true SW fan if you like the SE's' or vice versa. If the originals are to be issued again, Disney should package it with the SE, whether it's a previously released version or a new edit, to please both camps. As I said the third group will probably be pleased with whatever.

I definitely agree that both should be packaged together. The SE, like it or not, is now an irreversible part of the OT's history, and should be preserved as such alongside the originals.

Before the uptick in activity with them in non project threads, they were pretty much below my radar.

The whole switch from being a user who posts only in his own threads to posting regularly in others happened pretty much spontaneously. It was pretty jarring to see such weird, negative, and uncomfortable posts coming from a user that seemed to used to have an air of professionalism about him that only posted regarding team-related projects.

It also gets confusing when they are commenting in other threads outside of their own. Who the hell is actually commenting because their opinions and writing styles change throughout a thread. If they are to be allowed to keep their team account then they should be limited to posting in their own threads and be forced to use their own accounts when they comment or post anywhere else.

Coming from someone who only has about a year's experience with this website, and is therefore out of the loop regarding the history of the transition from negative1 to team_negative1, I also have noticed strange things relating to the team account's posts, especially within the last week or two. Lately the team account has been posting throughout numerous threads (mostly the ones relating to the OOT/SE discussion) saying things that are often baseless and extreme. Like what's been posted in this thread, I started to get really annoyed with the constant pushing of the idea that these posts come from the general consensus of an entire group of people, when it's obvious to everyone that the entire team isn't contributing to the response. In my opinion, if an account is going to represent multiple people, then it should have no right to post on any subjects other than documenting the progress of, or answering questions related to their projects. I think Jay's ruling needs to be made clear to the "team", or whoever is using the account to post on subjects unrelated to the teams projects.

There was also a strange, sarcastic post in a thread in which they responded to a person's very long and wordy post by saying, "Good points, but you may want to edit your wall of text, so that people can read it."

And having said that, I think it's quite possible that he's posting with the team account lately, without using his unique style.  The team account has been posting a lot lately outside of their project threads (see the 4k thread, for just one example), with a lot of negativity, and a lot of the "we" bullshit that we all know actually means "I."

The allowed use of a team account is a bad idea IMO because how many people are using it?  Who is posting what?  When the team account says "we know that 4k is a pointless medium," who is really saying that?

I've noticed that too. It's mostly in threads that involve the release of Star Wars related material, like the OOT in both the 4K thread and the one in "Theatrical Cuts vs Special Editions", but also in the Bonus Material thread when he said that no deleted scenes will ever be released again. It's pretty weird and uncomfortable.

I don't think there's any contractual agreement to never release the OOT until after Lucas' death. It'd be a very odd and uncomfortable discussion to have at a business meeting and frankly just doesn't make sense given the fact that Lucas approved the release of the GOUT.

I also don't understand the argument that Disney will interfere in the home video releases of Star Wars films. Lucasfilm still exists as an entity. Disney didn't buy Star Wars, they bought Lucasfilm, and everything it owned, which includes Star Wars. Lucasfilm is, to a certain extent, an individual company with it's own managers and producers that Disney ultimately has control over. Of course Disney could make them do whatever they see fit, but the idea of really high up Disney executives shutting down, or even caring about, the home video releases of old Star Wars movies is a bit far fetched I think, especially given that the real focus is no doubt on the new movies.

None of the releases so far has been completely GOUT-free and I'm afraid v2.0 of Jedi won't be either but the GOUT presence should be absolutely minimal.

That's still excellent. What are some of the shots that still have to be GOUT? Are they mostly just undoing the recomposited effects?

Anyway, as long as those Tie Fighters disappear at 37:15 in v2.0 I'll be happy :)

I certainly hope to, if I can get a 35mm source for that.

In the -1 thread the team mention that you would be receiving clips of the rancor. I was going to ask there but I figured it'd be more appropriate to ask in this thread, but will this footage be used to despecialize the rancor sequence for 2.0, or will that not be done until later versions?

By the way, I've fallen ill and am unable to do any work, so I'm planning on having a Despecialized Edition marathon while recovering :)

4K restoration on Star Wars

So, I can't necessarily state my sources other than saying that it is from a reputable source within disney. But, I happen to know the attitude at disney towards all things prequel and special edition is very negative and have heard that restoring the original, unaltered trilogy is a priority on the Star Wars front, though their focus is mainly on TFA, the spinoff films, and rebels at the moment and it is unclear when we will see a release, but that it is going to happen within the next couple of years.

If that's true then maybe after TFA and the new trilogy hype slows down they'll work on it more.

Yes, both the prints used, have a very bluish/greenish tint to them. We do have one other source with a slightly different orange/red tint to it.

We will be working on getting Harmy some new clips for his version.

Keep an watch for them Harmy.

Team Negative1

Clips of the Rancor or just the ending celebration scene and the Lapti Nek dance scene?
