the other sections of the forum are moderated. Are they like that? And the proposal here was lighter moderation than they get.

I agree Warbler. There’s a lot more nonsense going on in General Star Wars than in Off-Topic and the moderation hasn’t hindered that. The only moderation I’m in favor of is banning people like Darth Id, who exist purely to attack people, as well as banning spam accounts. Ghimli, for example, was banned for being reprehensible but had he posted his trash in Off-Topic, he would still be allowed to post.

Now, what about the black slave stereotypes of TFA ? Finn is a black dude who deserts his masters (his main job was toilet cleaner), who gets a new name thanks to a white man, who drinks the same water as an animal, and who gets beaten by Rey because he’s accused of having stolen the jacket of a white man by a white ginger droïd ? I clearly find this quite offensive.

That does not make one lick of sense.

I thought Austin Powers could have gone a lot further in spoofing 007 movies. Poke fun at the gunbarrel and title sequences. The otherwise forgettable Spy Hard had an awesome title sequence, directed by Weird Al no less!

Annoying that you can only find a textless version on Youtube.

Best gunbarrel spoof can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rlW38INlCQ#t=0m26s

You’re too young to watch violent movies.

I think they referred to it as 1997 just to reference the release date of the SE. I’d be surprised if they did a screening of any SE that isn’t the current one. What’s the point? The only reason would be if they were specifically showing it on film, which seems unlikely. As far as I’m concerned the blu rays aren’t any worse than the 1997 SEs. There are just a few extra changes (some worse than others), but the 97 SEs are already unwatchable for me anyway, so the Vader screaming “No!” is just another nail in the coffin.

It fits right in with “the guy who played Jar Jar says it’s not a racial stereotype so it must not be” and “you can’t have an Asian stereotype if he’s too tall.”

I agree with your debunking of his post, but I don’t think it’s fair to place my statement in the same league as that nonsense. My point was that the opinion of the black actor who played Jar Jar matters more than most when it comes to whether or not he is a racist character.

I remember being at work and getting called into the conference room to see the verdict read.

Now that’s very interesting. I wonder why the entire nation was so interested in this case, was it just the constant news coverage that forced it to become important? Was everyone really that concerned about race, like it showed on the series?

I was too young at the time. All I remember is that the highway chase interrupted TGIF, which was the only TV I was allowed to watch back then.

I always assumed you saw Star Wars in theatres.
