The hope would be to get to a place down the line where people don’t really care about whether they have the right or not.

I know that brings about thoughts like “the government is going to trick you into getting rid of your guns then they’re going to fuck you over!” But I don’t think protecting yourself from the government is really feasible at this point, arsenal or not.

The best hope would be that the military would be unwilling to kill a large amount of Americans and would turn on the hypothetical dictator.

I’m very opposed to needlessly limiting freedom, even if it isn’t a very objectively important freedom, like gun collecting. We need to heavily regulate who can own a gun and put in place harsh penalties and strict oversight when it comes to where those guns end up once someone buys them, meaning that all guns (or at least the more dangerous ones) need to be bought and sold through licensed dealers with background checks and the like. Also, illegal and excess guns need to be confiscated and destroyed to decrease the massive number of guns floating around this country. Banning all guns for everyone is a pointless and stupid exercise of authoritarian government. I’m in favor of heavy gun regulations, but I’m also in favor of keeping this country as free as possible, within reason, and the fact is, most gun-owners aren’t endangering anyone.

EDIT: Also, I agree with everything that the preceding post says.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

Sometimes I wonder if I’m even a Star Wars fan anymore.

Elements from the OT which continue to resonate with me:

 • The visuals.
 • The main protagonists.
 • Luke’s story.
 • The music.

Otherwise, I feel I’ve outgrown it all and probably did years ago. A series about white hat heroes battling black hat villains in a swashbuckling setting just doesn’t hold enduring appeal to someone who constantly wishes in their heart of hearts that Ingmar Bergman had created the films instead.

I feel the exact same way. I think the new Disney marketing blitz doesn’t help. I find it hard now to even think of Star Wars films as real movies because Star Wars as a brand is just everywhere. I think of Star Wars like I think of Sprite or Windex. Just a product.

With the foot in mouth bug that’s been going around here lately, you could have gotten a temp ban.

Really, without a warning? It’s Duracell, he was obviously just being weird, not racist.

Really? He wasn’t obviously being anything in my mind because I had zero idea what that was supposed to mean.

I didn’t really know what his purpose for it was, but it was obviously weird. Knowing Duracell, there was no reason to think it was racist.

Theatrical blu rays
Time

^ Possessed is definitely right on this.

If you specifically want to see a film print that isn’t completely restored, then you should go for the 35mm preservations. If you want a blu-ray copy then go for Harmy. Each one has advantages and disadvantages though. Harmy’s are much better-looking in most parts although there are some noticeable coverups of the changes due to the need to use sources that simply look different than the blu-ray; the 35mm preservations, while not looking as pristine as Harmy’s versions at their best, are consistent in their look throughout.

Anyone else totally disregard Leia being Luke's sister?

Really? I think Han’s rescue, as poorly written as it was, is the best of the non-Emperor stuff. It’s everything on Endor that is unwatchable to me. Last time I watched Jedi I actually skipped all of the Ewok stuff and the forest battle.

JEDIT: In fact, and keep in mind that I’m not saying that Jedi is anywhere near as poorly handled as the prequels, the action stuff and Ewok camp on Endor is as boring to me as I remember the action and love story in AOTC being. Also keep in mind that it’s been something like a decade since I saw AOTC.
