Some of the headlines I’m seeing are making it into an outright ban. The book will still be in the school library. I have to wonder how many complaints they actually got. Bet it was less than three.
I’m reminded how one parent in another town several years ago objected to Farenheit 451. When interviewed on tv admitted they actually had not read the book.
Still flabbergasted when something I read in the 5th grade like A Wrinkle In Time gets targeted this way.
Right it’s not a ban. It’s stupid people offended that their stupid kids might have been made a bit less stupid from reading a classic book. The people that removed it from the curriculum are even worse in my opinion than the people stupid enough to complain about it.
I’m also very interested to see the MPAA and BBFC ratings for this. At least with BBFC we’ll know if anything gets censored for a lower rating, but it’s entirely possible we’d never find out if the same is true here in the US.
If censorship happens, it’ll most likely be from the MPAA here in the US firsr, then that censored cut will be the “official” cut and would be the version that gets sent to the BBFC and other countries. So if the BBFC cuts anything, it’s possible that it would actually be twice-censored…
I can’t imagine that any Disney Star Wars movie would contain a shred of content warranting an R rating.

I got to be honest, even people that I like I don’t really enjoy very much. Not everyone is bad, I just don’t them usually anyway. There’s a variety of reasons that I won’t share because boring, but I get that me being misanthropic is a little bit extreme. I do still hate most people but I think I go overboard as an excuse, but it’s easier that way.
In the Bible Belt South, racism definitely will give a candidate the edge.

It is and it isn’t. It all depends on how dirt poor the questionee is.
If your home has internet access and you have a computer at home then you probably aren’t dirt poor enough to track down a used, scratched up copy of the blu-ray OT.

Funnily enough, I’m usually great in social situations. Supposedly I’m even quite charming, so I’m told.
Basically what I’m saying is, you don’t know if the people you’re talking to are going to be in the 1% of people that aren’t terrible until you’ve wasted a lot of time on them. Even then, people change on a dime later on so you can still be tricked. Handman said he’s got a social circle that he doesn’t like so obviously he knows that he’s not incapable of finding people to interact with.
The problem isn’t that there’s this untapped sea of beautiful wonderful friendly people that is just waiting to be befriended, it’s that such people are rarer than a pregnant virgin.

I don’t think that ignoring continuity is necessary for a soft reboot. I usually think of a soft reboot as a reimagining of the series for a modern audience, which OHMSS wasn’t. I don’t think there is a specific definition though.

I meant OHMSS would be considered a soft reboot today. Not sure the concept existed at the time it was made.
It was the same timeline, they just chose to ignore continuity for the sake of staying close to the OHMSS novel.
I’ve also heard some people online, not here but elsewhere, giving others hell for not wanting to see this movie even though it’s good. Just think about all of the 90+% movies on Rotten Tomatoes that you’ve skipped because you had no interest in them.
