My dad gave me his Kenner toys when I was five or six.

It sounds like they want name recognition. “Mudd was a recurring villain of the week? Bring him in!” They have to make things exciting though so he’s going to be a mass murderer.
Frozen.
It’s not my favorite Disney film. At all. It has its moments, but the plot begs for more backstory and explanation of early story contrivances regarding the Elsa character; the movie’s message of female empowerment does not speak to me personally; and the true villain of the story turns out to be rather ineffectual, and not in an amusing or comical way. The film is not actually about the villain at all, who is really more of a side character to the plot.
The thing that bothers me about Frozen doesn’t even have anything to do with the movie itself, it was the movie’s damn ubiquity. I don’t have a problem with merchandising, but sometimes it gets to the point where it’s just too much, and I think that happened with Frozen. It came out in 2014 and I still see commercials for Frozen toys. See also: Minions.
I really find it repugnant how much corporations target children. It’s nothing new, but these movies are great examples of it.
It’s also really sickening that apparently Kevin Spacey isn’t even denying it and is chalking it up to being drunk. He’s also coming out as gay now which is despicable since him apparently predating on a child has nothing to do with his sexual orientation. It’s a cheap redirection.
WTF Kevin Spacey?
Yeah, seriously.
That wasn’t a surprise to me. Oddly enough I heard a similar story secondhand from a friend a few years back.
Was your friend Anthony Rapp?
As someone who’s allergic to tomatoes, neither of those emojis represents the cheeseburger I could safely consume if it were real. Up ur Fox news. Up ur.
I think it’d work. The Kevin Spacey news isn’t political really but could start conversation and ranting unbecoming of the Random Thoughts thread.

I wouldn’t mind the movie so much if I didn’t see that darn snowman everywhere I go. He’s been plastered on everything. A house down the street from me has an Olaf pumpkin this year. It’s terrifying.
I think the overbearing marketing is what turns me off about Disney. The movies are (usually) good but it’s entirely about peddling cheap products to children and it goes too far.
I see I lit a flame to a powder keg. Whoops.
Mfm, sorry, I guess it was a shitty thing to say, I thought I was being chummy, and people have made the same “joke” to me, including my own mother, so I guess I didn’t expect it would be as provocative as it was. Sorry again, I’ll try to be more careful with what I say.
That’s okay. Like I said, I suspected you weren’t serious but I overreacted needlessly and for that I’m sorry.
If I were a parent I’d never let my kid be in a picture.
If I were a parent I wouldn’t even let my kids take pictures.
Is there any reasoning to their order or is it just whichever they feel like watching next?
I think I can safely say that Spectre is my least favorite Bond film. It’s painfully average for the first hour and a half, which makes it impossible for that to make up for the appallingly, dare I say insulting attempt to create some kind of cinematic universe out of the Craig timeline. I thought they’d learned their lesson from Quantum not to try and make direct sequel Bond films but I guess not. Hopefully this will teach them for good.
He was pretty evil in TOS when you think about it and take him literally. He was a human trafficker after all.
The guy who has one robot peacefully take over a ship then maroon the crew on a planet where every need of theirs will be met (and is defeated by pantomime) is the same guy who
goes out of his way to murder members of the crew of a starship as many times as possible, then destroying the ship on the off chance he’ll be able to commit the perfect crime
is just jarring to me.
That’s true, and I haven’t seen Discovery yet so that might be a bit much for him.
…instead of the somewhat ‘claustrophobic’ feel of the original film within the stand-alone movie paradigm.
ANH stands on its own, and does it brilliantly.
Yeah, this is the first time I’ve heard people talk about ANH like it’s a quaint start to a much greater series. Empire is the only piece of Star Wars media that arguably equalled the quality of Star Wars.
To be fair to mfm, telling him “it’s a good thing you don’t have kids” is kind of a shitty thing to say. Apparently it was a joke (I guess?) but it didn’t come off that way.
Yes, it was a shitty thing to say.
It still didn’t need the ‘fuck you’ response.
It did need that response. Had anyone other than Handman or another friendly user said it, I’d have responded even more harshly.
Maybe a response something like ‘What the fuck? That’s a shitty thing to say - where’s that come from?’ would have been a more apt response? and may have also got you some info on why/what caused Handman to say it?
I wasn’t quite sure but figured and hoped that Handman was probably telling a joke; it struck a nerve with me regardless so I responded in kind with another rude joke. “Fuck you,” (I guess until a few weeks ago) was the go-to OT.com response when dealing with crude jests and is an inside joke of the website.
I’m going back through TNG and I think season 1 has some good stuff in it. Nothing great, but more good than I remember. Most of the series’ worst episodes in my opinion aren’t even in season 1.

Are Rogue One spoilers still barred from the rest of the site, or is it fair game in any thread like TFA is now?

Exactly. I want kids so having that said to me in response to obviously facetious jokes I made about not letting my kids watch kids shows irked me. And still I like Handman so I wanted to be mean without being really mean.
I suppose I should try and explain myself for that comment. I was trying to be rude because Handman’s comment pissed me off, but at the same time the simple “Fuck you.” has been an OT.com lighthearted insult that I thought most people would get, although I guess it has been replaced by “Up ur” now.
Should I have kids, I probably won’t deliberately expose them to SW. It’s just not worth it being a SW fan. Instead I’ll show them stuff by Bergman and Kurosawa and co. and try to get them interested in classic foreign films.
I figure that basically all people being born this decade will be a part of Disney’s master plan for the franchise whether they like it or not.
I’m not so sure that the public interest will be high once the ST is over.
That’s why I didn’t say anything.
Sorry
I’m glad you don’t have kids.
But I’m sad I don’t.
I’m glad he doesn’t either
Oh fuck that. No one on the planet gives a crap over what you’re glad about and anyone that claims they do is a liar.
