It’s a film that I liked well enough.
It’s a film that I liked well enough.
It came across that way.
Lol why would a perfect being such as God feel human emotions like jealousy. Or desire for that matter.
If God exists, it is not jealous. Nor does it desire a close relationship with you. That’s entirely on the human side of the equation.
The god of the Bible wasn’t described as being “perfect” in a way that we tend to define that word. All-powerful, maybe, but especially in the Old Testament he resembles a lot of the very human-like gods of other mythology.
I don’t care what a bunch of humans in the dark ages thought about God. They didn’t know any better than anyone today does, and in many ways they knew worse.
I was explaining why the god you’re referring to supposedly experiences human emotions like like jealousy and desire. You asked, so don’t get pissy when someone answers completely cordially.
And the trinity was never even an idea in the Old Testament, other than a cryptic reference to “us” in Genesis.
Even the idea of him being the only existing god isn’t clear in much of the Old Testament.
Agnostic atheist here who was raised Episcopalian and was an altar boy for years in his youth.
Something people tend to miss about Christianity is that the whole point of Jesus was to sacrifice himself to absolve humans of the sins and laws described in the Old Testament.
So the adherence of many “fundamentalist” Christians too the laws set down in the Old Testament seems ridiculous to me. In my mind, they ignore the most fundamental teachings of Christ, and if you do that, why claim to be Christian at all?
(Sorry, in a weird place right now, otherwise I’d just be avoiding this topic entirely.)
You’re right, but the New Testament is very conflicting on that too. Books like James tell Christians that they very much need to behave “morally” and that faith alone is “dead” without good works. As Duracell said, these documents were written by different people in different times and places, which means that it makes perfect sense that they contradict each other and it also means that the theology has to be extra complicated in order to reconcile the contradictions.

I need to see Get Out. That was one of the few big films last year that I was interested in.
Did he say, “Don’t choke on your aspirations”?
Most people familiar with healthy relationships would say that jealousy, possessiveness, and threat of torture are problematic in a healthy marriage. As for hell, let’s not sugarcoat it. Nowhere in the Bible is it merely coined as a separation from God. It’s eternal torture, Jesus and his spokesmen were clear on that.
From my understanding you’ve worked there long enough you could probably find much better work with your track record of experience and dedication.
I don’t know. I’m not trying to be disrespectful, I’m just stating my opinion, but the God of the Bible is incredibly shallow. Again, I’m just stating my interpretation informed by multiple readings of the text. The Bible itself refers to God as being jealous and vengeful. It’s not just the Old Testament either. All it takes is a lack of faith in him and his son in order to get damned to the eternal fires of hell for all eternity.
It’s definitely apples and oranges, but It was a movie that told an actual story and wasn’t boring, which is all I can hope for from blockbusters catering to a mass audience nowadays. I didn’t see TLJ, but I would say in a heartbeat that It was infinitely more enjoyable than either TFA or Rogue One. I did see Guardians of the Galaxy a year or two ago, but not in theaters and I really liked that one.
I’m going to disagree with the idea that neither TFA or Rogue One told an actual story and weren’t boring, but ok.
You’re right, I’m being unfair. TFA did tell an actual story, and I’ll admit that, while I didn’t like it, it didn’t bore me.
I want to comment on a very common talking point in the rightwing where they act as though someone coming under fire and potentially being fired by their employer for extremely reprehensible comments or actions as being a violation of their 1st amendment rights, when no one is asking to legally oppress this woman. People just don’t want their children to have to suffer through a year of being educated by people like her. By the way, she teaches “Social Studies” which I think is what they call Civics and History these days. I’m sure her racist and genocidal leanings have an impact on the way in which she communicates this subject to students. All that said, I do get that a government institution, like a school, will have a hard time finding a way to get rid of her without risking a 1st amendment violation.
She can be fired. Are we really going to advocate for white supremacists being employed as public school teachers now?
I hope nobody here does that. But we do have a 1st Amendment.
We do, but our children are also required by law to attend public school (unless you can afford to send them to a private school, or homeschool), and kids can’t choose their teachers. That’s why shitty ones or demented and insane ones that are in favor of genocide need to be fired. We’re not talking about a DMV employee. This bitch is in charge of children.

Exactly. Artwork was beautiful though, for majora’s mask the liner book even had sheet music for the ocarina songs. All the text was in japanese though except for the song titles.
Did you have to order it from Japan or was it an import that you bought from someone else?
Obviously the best solution to this is to give her a gun while she’s teaching.
The really funny thing is that she doesn’t look very white. She could easily pass for a minority. In all seriousness, though, this is a tragic reminder that, much like becoming a cop, it takes no intelligence or basic human decency to become a teacher. We need to raise the standards, keep the good ones and fire the bad ones, and only hire competent candidates.
It was better than any movie I’ve seen in theaters in the last four years. Granted, all I’ve seen have been a couple Marvel movies and a couple Star Wars movies, and I hated all of them.
Well then try films other than the biggest tentpole blockbusters? Here’s just a small selection of the films I enjoyed last year in theaters:
Dunkirk
Brigsby Bear
Wind River
Logan Lucky
American Made
Blade Runner 2049
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
Coco
Hostiles
I have to wait until they are no longer in theaters and by then I forget that I wanted to see them.

You saw one movie this year, and it was It.
“I’m so sorry.”

I don’t go to movie theatres, and almost nothing that came out this year interested me.
It
I only saw one film released in 2017.
Hopefully he’ll die soon.
…Did I go too far? I know the rightwing doesn’t like jokes.
