The Cult Leader Appreciation Thread
Time

I’ve never understood why Rand is seen as so influential and a lightning rod. Then again I’ve never read her books.

Anthem was a good book. I liked it but I haven’t read it in over a decade. I’d say Ayn Rand has a cult following more so than ever being a cult leader. Molyneux has a frightening personal influence over his fans (most of which are alt-right these days). He’s notorious for demanding that his followers abandon their families if they have political disagreements. His wife actually got in legal trouble for being a fraudulent and predatory psychiatrist that encouraged her patients to sever ties with their families. At least Ayn Rand has the decency to be dead now. Molyneux is a living cult leader. 😉 (Better add the winky face to let everyone know I’m being hyperbolic. People don’t like jokes these days).

Bruce is correct. 2/4 is exactly half score.

It is 50% but it isn’t a median score. They’re talking about halfway in a sense that there are an even number of scores below it and above it. If you only do 1-4 then there is only one possible score below 2 and two above it.

I acknowledged that I understand this concept earlier in the thread if you bothered to read it.

All I saw were posts of you failing in attempts at humor and talking about balls, so forgive me for not bothering to study each and every post before making a completely innocuous comment.

Don’t respond to dead conversations if you don’t want me to tell you you’re being irrelevent.

You know what? This is why I hate interacting with other people 99% of the time.

You pretty much said that you didn’t have time to read past the post you quoted yet decided to pay attention to the dumb jokes following the actual conversation. This is somehow my fault? You responded to a series of posts that you obviously didn’t pay attention to and I said that I already understood that point, and that you would’ve known that had you read the whole conversation. Your response to that sounded super dickish, so I got a little fed up with the crappy attitude you constantly have towards others here.

I started the series of posts that was this conversation, and given that there are often many different conversations going on at the same time in any given thread with jocular comments thrown in the mix, I thought it was fair to just skim rather than read them all and I must’ve missed whatever post you’re talking about. Since this isn’t exactly a serious conversation about anything of consequence I didn’t think it would be a problem. I responded dickishly to a dickish response to an innocuous comment. I’m within my right to do that. As for my crappy attitude, it wasn’t on display at all when I commented on the rating scale so I don’t see why you’d be fed up with it at that point, although that’s happened before where people have complained about my supposed irrationally bad attitude even when I’m being perfectly cordial, but “whatever” as my best friend Warbler likes to say. Thank you for a thoroughly unpleasant exchange. I can’t wait until the next time we discuss the Roger Ebert four-star rating system.

Has our president said anything in his memory? I’m fearful that he’ll do an imitation of him.

Well, he’s not black or mexican or female, so he’s got that in his favor, but the whole wheelchair thing makes it a 50/50 call I guess.

My prediction is that we’ll get a weak, bland, and completely unemotional tweet or Facebook post that doesn’t do him justice at all. The tweet or post will also probably wrap back around to Donald Trump somehow, e.g. “Stephen Hawking visited Trump Tower back in 2002,” or something like that. Also, I’m betting that Trump’s supporters will respond negatively to any positive comment on Hawking no matter how weak because Stephen Hawking was a vocal scientist and Trump supporters typically have an allergic reaction to anything based in fact and reality.

Rating things on a scale of 1 to 4 confuses me.

Why?

It seems arbitrary. I also think it leaves little room for fine nuances. Like, if you think about a percentage scale, one star is the difference between an A+ (100%) and a C (75%). I don’t like ratings at all, though and I tend to think that they’re all a bit arbitrary. What’s the difference between a 99 and a 100? Or a 3.1 and a 3.2? I much prefer people just concisely state what they like or didn’t like about a film and whether they consider it good or not. That’s much more useful.

Evil flight attendant murders dog. Here’s to hoping the person responsible does the world a favor and dies soon.

I would love to know all of the facts. I am pretty dogs aren’t supposed to be in the passenger area of an airplane at all. It certainly makes no sense that if dog were allowed in the passenger area, it would have to be kept in the overhead compartment. I think normally pets travel in cages in the cargo hold and not in the passenger area. Just what killed the dog? Being put in the overhead compartment, while maybe a little scary and uncomfortable, would not seem to me to be fatal. Weirdness.

Much like when a duo of murderous cops terrorize, psychologically torture, and then murder an unarmed man, I don’t really care too much what other little tidbits the story entails.

Whatever.

Oh yeah that’s right. He moved his a little bit. Better shoot him just to be safe.

What the fuck is your problem?

I have a lot of problems. My toaster oven is missing, my neighbor’s daughter parks her car in front of my mailbox, and my utility bill was four dollars more expensive than it was last month. I don’t see what that has to do with how evil these flight attendants were, though.

I was just thinking that if they tried to force my dog into the overhead compartment I’d refuse to let them, but then I remembered that police have the right to beat United Airline customers nearly to death if passengers don’t comply with direct orders from flight attendants.

Knock it off.

The first paragraph was in jest, obviously, but my second one was completely reasonable.

That teacher has no business teaching anyone gun safety(if I understand gun safety enough). I could be mistaken, but I doubt it.

Why even shoehorn in this little bit of apologetics. You know full well (I hope) that this was absurd and incompetent.

Huh?

You throw in little phrases like “if I understand gun safety enough” and “I could be mistaken, but I doubt it,” and it’s irritating because you don’t need to understand gun safety at all to be 100% certain that this man has no business waving a gun around on school property and teaching gun safety. Just like you don’t need to “understand police procedure” to know that shooting unarmed hostages is wrong. You often have a stubborn reluctance to condemn things like this, especially if negligent or criminal police officers are involved. I just wish you’d show a fraction of the outrage for things like this that are actually dangerous that you show for people expressing themselves by kneeling during the national anthem.
