Star Wars Blu Ray Impressions
Time

Number one, how are people getting this before the 16th? I work at Blockbuster and we have em, but aren't allowed to rent em out or sell em til Friday. We can rent them ourselves, being employees, but that's all

Sorry that all your BBV's closed, there's 19 in my area. We only rent out the actual movie discs, (starting on the 16th, of course), in stupid covers with no backs. The rental covers look like this:

Sorry for the crappy quality. I just had to show how generic the covers are. You have to look by the BB barcode sticker to see which episode is in the case.

I work at Blockbuster. I wonder when we'll get these pre-street so I can rent (for free) the actual discs and watch em on my brother in laws PS3. Sad.. I actually like the prequels and the special editions.. but not these new voices! I almost was going to buy a blu ray player just for this release! I still my though for the theatrical Grindhouse disc..

Yeah well they'll never just say, "Sorry we screwed up!", but as long as they are finally (hopefully) going to be fixed, who cares, right?

And I know I'm in the minority here, but I just want six matching films that look like they were filmed in episode order, and fit together, even though I was born in 76 and grew up with SW.

Guys look. I don't think he's saying the BD shots are mock-ups, but the DVD shots are mock-ups made to the same size as the BDs.

In later parts I'll discuss answers to why no original cuts, why some documentaries were left off and other questions. I had set my expectations accordingly about the original versions of the film, but going in was still concerned about the overall package. After seeing it, a lot of work went into this release and it shows. Just to set expectations in the end, I will be buying this set and I will recommend it to others. Is everyone going to be happy with it? Nope. Some people (Carlo) will decide to vote with their wallet and that is fine.

Ideas Wanted: for a ...Sucker Punch as a straight action movie edit -- SPOILERS
Time

So I was kinda disappointed with some parts of Sucker Punch when I saw it at the theater. I was expecting it go be “real” as opposed to a dream within a dream whatever. I was also mad that most of the girls died. So what I want to do is, using the extended cut, which I haven’t yet seen, make it into a “real” movie.

I have a couple of ideas, like the movie taking place in the future, the girls having night jobs as strippers/hookers whatever and day jobs as superheroes. In my edit, none of the girls will die, either. This time, what they want to escape is working in the brothel, which maybe they wanted to work at originally, but then wanted to get out, but the high roller/ Blue or whatever, won’t let em. They sneak out to do the fighting, but I’m not sure why they can’t escape altogether. Still trying to come up with ideas.

I’ve seen a comparison of the extended vs theatrical cut, but I don’t know what deleted scenes NOT in the movie are yet. Are there any that show Baby Doll’s sexy dances? If not, maybe there’s another movie I can steal a scene from, with an Emily Browning lookalike or something. I also thought of using scenes from the Japanese Assault Girls movie, which I haven’t seen yet.

Does anyone have any ideas/ suggestions/ comments on this? I thought of using the train sequence early in the movie, that way (Rocket, was it?) can be shown to still be alive afterwards. I also thought about maybe they can listen to a police scanner or something for their “assignments” and that Baby Doll’s first one is solo and that’s also where she rescues the little girl from the fat man (yeah, rescues, and they are no longer related to Baby Doll.)

Idea & Info: 'Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown' and 'Race For Your Life Charlie Brown' - airing on HD channels throughout June and July... how bout a DVD preservation?
Time

Don't think anyone had any luck the last time, but I'm actually watching right now, Bon Voyage Charlie Brown on Time Warner Kids on Demand. It was 1.99 and I don't know if it's uncut or anything, but I hope so! It seems to be non-letterbox, which I heard was the correct ratio anyway.

How long are you planning on making this? I'm thinking like 2 hours or so, with just the "Avengers" related scenes from all the movies, crossovers (even ones from deleted scenes) such as every Samuel L. Jackson scene, and introductions to the characters. Then you can use scenes from the 1998 Sean Connery Avengers. Ha ha, just kidding.

Mortal Kombat Legacy Fanedit (Released)

That's sounds cool. Conquest starred a decendant of Liu Kang and Kung Lao (now referred to as the Great Kung Lao) around 500 years before the first MK tournament.

I think you have Liu Kang and Kung Lao reversed, actually.

I had it partially correct. I changed my quoted text above to how it should have been.

From http://mortalkombat.wikia.com/wiki/Great_Kung_Lao:

"The Great Kung Lao is a character occasionally referenced in the game series and featured in the television show Mortal Kombat: Conquest. He is the ancestor of the present-day Kung Lao and Liu Kang."

It would be cool if this edit could make these "cannon" as well:

A few perceptive observers noticed during the theatrical run of "Iron Man" that in the scene where Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) walks in on Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) as his armor is being removed, there was something on the workbench behind him. Circular, with red and white stripes and a half-completed star in the center, it was speculated that this was Captain America's iconic shield. Iron Man In a Q&A session in Santa Monica last month, director Jon Favreau confirmed that it is indeed Cap's shield. He said a visual effects artist at Industrial Light & Magic Iron Manhad placed it there just as a joke. But Favreau loved the little "Easter egg" and decided it should stay.

Captain America himself made a cameo in "The Incredible Hulk," but don't feel bad if you didn't see it. While director Louis Letterier had hinted in interviews that they had shot an appearance, the scene ended up on the cutting room floor. But now it can finally be seen in the bonus features on the DVD, as first spotted by FilmSchoolRejects.com.

Screen Capture from 'The Incredible Hulk'

In the original opening scene of the movie, Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) travels to the Arctic, away from civilization, to try to end his own life and rid the world of the Hulk. Incredible HulkThere, buried in the ice, is the frozen body of Captain America. It's a little difficult to make out the figure, but again he can be identified by his shield.

The character is scheduled to get his own film, called "The First Avenger: Captain America," in May of 2011. Then he's expected to join Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and other Marvel heroes in the group "Avengers" movie that July. The speculation is that the first movie will be his origin story, set during World War II like the initial comics. Then he will be frozen and brought back in modern times to join the team, just like he did in the books. Jon Favreau has stated he'd like to direct "The Avengers," but first he's focusing on "Iron Man 2," hitting screens in May 2010.

from http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/captainamerica_blog.html

Didn't Tony also use the shield to fix something in Iron Man 2?

Mortal Kombat Legacy Fanedit (Released)
Time

I've never seen or heard of Legacy or Rebirth until now, don't really keep up on web-only stuff much. Anyway, it seems really cool.

Something I think would be cool, but I know won't happen is to somehow make this tie into and be a sequel to the series Mortal Kombat Konquest which ended on a cliffhanger when it was cancelled. I know probably no one liked that show, but I did anyway.

Hmm, I might have to buy that laserdisc of Bon Voyage... considering that some of the US DVDs have Japanese language tracks, it's promising that the LD might as well, so maybe no burned-in Japanese subs?

Also, I hear there were cuts in the VHS release. I wonder if the Japanese LD has these too? Too bad no one got the HD Net version, I hear they present all movies 100% as in theaters.

Well, thanks, but that is probably unlikely for the time being. Those you mentioned are all TV specials. Warner Bros. currently has the rights to all of those. However, there were also four theatrical movies, still under control by Paramount.

A Boy Named Charlie Brown (on DVD)

Snoopy Come Home (on DVD)

Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown (not on DVD, airing on HDNet movies)

Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (and Don't Come Back!!) (not on DVD, airing on HDNet movies)
