Different ages Star Wars
Time

Of course not. Good story telling can be told in many different ways. Just look at Pixar and the new Disney films.

It's just a matter of taste to me. I love Toy Story and Finding Nemo but I also love Game of Thrones and Deadwood. I think a darker Star Wars would be refreshing. The prequels needed to be darker given the subject matter. Jedi's should have been hunted down and murdered. Not going darker does not do that story justice.

Different ages Star Wars
Time

I'm not familiar with the new Star Wars stand alone film.

I think there is lots of room for different kinds of Star Wars films from G rated to R rated. As we all get older I personally want darker stories in that universe. I want something more complex and grey.

The prequels tried to go there but George tried to keep it all PG but it needed to go to a really dark place to be good.

I was looking forward to the "Deadwood" style of Star Wars. I hope Disney can produce different styles of content from Star Wars that can appeal to all ages.

Star Wars Detours
Time

Robot Chicken Star Wars parodies are usually quite fantastic.

A lot of people worked on Star Wars detours and their work was never seen. So that just sucks for those people. I thought it was shelved due to Disney taking over. Lucas had every intention to release it once someone bought it I thought.

Calling Lucas a complete evil man is so extreme. If anyone who says that was in his shoes I doubt they would do any better. Most would do worse.

I think the success of Star Wars was a fluke. Many serendipitous things came together to make it what it is and it was hard for him to see what truly made it a success.

I must still be a fetus.

RipBot was not working well with my VM. Anyone have a preset for Handbrake or some simple instructions? I used the high profile setting built in and made sure to output a full 1920x1080 file for the spec, but it would not work in tsmuxer, nor would the final m4v file work on the Oppo. First time handbrake has stumped me honestly.

Sorry about Putin.

Make up a plot to the new films
Time

I think Han and Leia's relationship is merely based on them being in this life and death situation. I think they are married but don't really talk to each other. Leia should drink a lot doing political stuff and Han should be off doing his own thing. He's practically a diplomat now and is extremely bored. He's sold the Millenium Falcon. He probably drinks his fair share too. Then Luke comes out of nowhere with a mission.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

The teaser could have did without the VO. The droid borders on cute/stupid. The Millennium Falcon stirred up something in me. Modern film owes half of it's success to John Williams. The VFX so far look fan generated.

JJ has an awesome ability to setup a film but he misses the soul of the story.

Star Trek was all an action movie. It completely lost the soul of Star Trek which about this optimistic view of humanity and the pure elements of science and exploration.

Super 8 never really nailed down the innocence of childhood. I mean the movie is called Super 8 and they don't get that film developed until the end of the film? The train should have crashed and the next thing that happens in the story should have been the kids getting that film back and trying to tell people in the town that there is a monster loose. But of course nobody believes them because they make monster movies! Then they have to go find the monster and it's ugly but friendly ala ET and they don't get split up and stick together for their adventure ala Goonies.

So I fear we will see a lot of cool stuff in this new film but it's not going to come together the way Joss Whedon can pull a bunch of story threads together for an awesome story arc and ultimate ending.

But only time will tell.

I want to see a lot of Luke Skywalker kicking ass. I think Mark Hamill is an excellent actor. It would be fantastic to see him take Luke and really do something awesome with the character. Han should sacrifice himself in this episode. Then Luke should in the next film.

Thanks for reading my rant.

team negative1 - star wars 1977 - 35mm theatrical version (Released)

35mm film prints are not that sharp. They are generations down from the original negative. A local art theater had a presentation when they switched to digital projection. They screened 35mm prints versus their DCP restorations and the DCPs were quite amazing and clearly sharper. Too sharp actually. You could see a lot of flaws in the image that were never meant to be seen. The Ghostbusters 4k remastered version was super grainy. I still loved it.

Very true about EXIF data. I forgot iphone photos have the GPS location in them.

I love seeing photos of this stuff too but I completely understand that they might try and be somewhat anonymous.

It is a privilege. It would be a real shame if it was taken away. But I don't think Disney is in danger of losing any money over this stuff.
