Max Headroom Preservation Project (* unfinished project *)
Time

ReverendBeastly:

I checked the DAP versions and they seem to be the same as the ones that I've found.  Same time, codecs, TechTV...etc..

I wish I knew an expert that was willing to share information about Max.  I'd like to know which version in broadcast were complete.  I have VHS versions of A&E and Bravo and Sci Fi... The Sci Fi ones seemed really cut up... either the Bravo or the A&E ones had awful sound... sigh.

I made one DVD disc w/ the first 3 episodes on it (with PopCorn) last week... and it seems ok...  The problem is the source material on episodes 1 & 2 were 340 MB and episode 3 was 516 MB and was so much better looking and sounding.

So, I'm still looking I guess.

Any help would be great.

Idea & Help Wanted: Huey Lewis & The News Videos
Time

This may not be the place for something like this… but I figured I’d give it a shot anyway.  I’m trying to put together a Max Headroom Preservation set here, and well…  You never know where you might meet someone with a similar interest.

I’m a big Huey Lewis and the News fan.

I was curious if anyone ever put together a collection of all the Huey Music Vids and similar stuff that has been issued in the past.  Most of it is no longer in print.

I have an old OOP Laser Disc with some video tracks on it…  and I have a tape of the making of “Stuck With You,” which is a lot of fun.  And that’s it for me.

There are also Japanese DVD and PAL VHS video sets with a Making Of: Doin’ It All For My Baby and other videos not on my Laser Disc.

So… anyone know anything cool… or wanna help out?

Hey Psycho_Dayv:

I have the british movie (done 2 years before the American Series) which is pretty much the same story as the pilot of the American TV show.  A few different actors, but mostly the same concept (Bryce does become a good guy in the series).

I'll have to see if the good folks over at http://www.maxheadroom.com have a list of all the Coke Commercials and such.  I am mostly interested in the Adventure series.

I don't know much about the Max MTV show.  Was it just one season?  I guess I'd better check.

ReverendBeastly:  Thanx for the info.  I found the tracker... d'oh<  As usual, it was staring me right in the face.  My big problem will be that my ratio will be crap for a looooonnng time with all the files I want to D/L... Oh well... sigh.

Thanx to all of you for your involvement and help.  Hopefully I'll get the best versions around and make a nice Box Set for all to enjoy.

That sounds like a good candidate for a signature.

What's a signature, sir?

I might be willing to host them on a traditional server. I'm getting quite tired of torrent shaping (even FiOS is doing this to me now) and hate rapidshare. PM me if you want to give it a shot. We could do this as an initial "seed" that gets removed relatively quickly, but goes to enough people so that newsgroups/rapidshare/demonoid all see releases.
That sounds great... I'm not sure how a traditional server would work(?)  Rapidshare sucks... ZShare or megaupload are much more user-friendly in terms of D/Ling many files.  As familier as I am with torrent groups... I am equally or more unfamilier with newsgroups (I tried to get the Spinal Tap from a newsgroup via an nzp file that i D/Led from Rapidhsare... and honestly I have no idea how to work it.  I've never used newsgroups).
Nope, just enthusiasm :)

Enthusiasm is always a good thing...

I guess the original poster for this forum isn't around any more...  So, I started another thread at:

The Spinal Tap Omnibus - Volume 6: The 1992 Concert Tour (Released)

I did recieve the first two volumes from a very nice member here... but I'd love to get Volume 6.

I am on a Mac and I have never used newsgroups, so I had no luck getting the .nzp file to work.

Volumes 1 & 2 would be a bit iffy to post on "legitimate" torrent sites, but I could certainly put Volume 6 up at demonoid as soon as I get it... if that's what ThatArtGuy wants.

A 4 (or 5) DVD set of all of the American Adventure TV show: Max Headroom.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Headroom_(TV_series)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt008956

I’ve been trying to find the best quality copies of the 14 episode American TV series: Max Headroom to prepare a Box Set of the complete series.

I have all of the episodes from the Tech TV Network in .avi format ranging in size from 300 to 600 MGs. I also have versions on VHS from other Networks. I’m not sure what the differences are in the different edits from the different networks (Sci Fi, A&E, Bravo, Tech TV, etc.) Obviously, I’d like to get the most complete versions. Any help here would be appreciated.

When I find the best versions available I will transcode 3 episodes to a DVD to make 5 disc set that I will make available as a torrent. I have a few decent versions of Coke commercials and the Art Of Noise video. Good copies would be appreciated.

Any help at all on this project would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx, ~leesa I’m not sure where else to post to a forum concerning this project.

leesa, does this mean you are ordering the tvsanctum version?

I can't really afford it at this point. I haven't heard any reports of really good versions out there, and I assume most everyone selling these are probably using the same source... I could be very wrong, but the odds lean toward this being just one of the usual.

I do have a copy of the .avi versions that are readily available as torrents all over... and have made a VIDEO_TS version with the first 4 episodes. It looks pretty decent. I'm chatting with a good friend who is a digital video engineer, and we're trying to figure if it will look much better if I expand the bit rate and only put 3 on a DVD. It all depends on just how good the source material is... expanding crap is just expanded crap.

I also assume that it's possible that that is how these other companies have created their DVD versions (But always remember: When you "assume..." you make an ass outta Uma Thurman).

Either way, hopefully I'll have something to post (probably on demonoid, unless you have other suggestions) pretty soon.

There is a LD Japan box set of Max with a few episodes. If the quality of these are good, it would be nice to digitize these... but I have no resources for them.

If you have any other info, I'd love to hear it.

Thanx so much for being involved.

Hiya:

Wow... I'm surprised anyone was paying attention... Yay!!!

Going to TVShowsOnDVD won't really help. From what I understand Max is one of their top rated unreleased shows... and the reason it is in limbo is because of ownership. Lorimar used to own part of it... but Lorimar was sold... and... but... and... It gets very complicated.

I did some work for a company that tried to license it a few years ago and it was a nightmare just trying to figure the ownership.

If you go to http://www.maxheadroom.com/ there is much info on the whys and wherefores.

I have a good bud who is a A/V engineer... and we are gonna try to transcode the .avi ones that I have... and hopefully they'll play smoothly on DVD players that play data... I'll let everyone know...

We also might then try to make a VIDEO_TS version. The .avi versions I have wouldn't "Popcorn" to VIDEO_TS without substantial problems because of the odd codecs... But if we transcode them first... who knows.

I have three different VHS versions... The Bravo version has awful sound... high end distortion. The Sci Fi Channel ones are cut... It is so disappointing. Someone should make .avis from the Japanese LD box set that came out years ago.

Any more info from you folks would be greatly appreciated!

Thanx for those who chimed in!

I was curious if anyone ever put together a nice DVD version of the Max Headroom adventure series?

I have the usual torrent version (all .avi files) that's been around for years, but half of the episode won't play on my Phillips DVD5140. The 5140 is a great DVD player that plays most data (no WMV or WMA files even though the sale page at Amazon says it does), but half of the episodes have one or the other of the codecs that won't play on the 5140.

If there is no VIDEO_TS high quality version around, I'll try to transcode the .avi versions that I have to more useful codecs.

So, folks... any ideas?

The Spinal Tap Omnibus - Volume 6: The 1992 Concert Tour (Released)

Hi again:

I'm having crappy Private Messages issues here... not sure why (on a Mac... Safari... maybe?) so I can't seen to contact anyone. I'm very interested in getting these cool Omnibus discs... but I'm not really sure how to go about it.

I've checked around and none of them seem to have been posted on any torrent groups I frequent... and I'm pretty gosh darn ignorant to using the newsgroups... so i am definitely at a loss.

If anyone has any info, please try me at leesagrrl@yahoo.com.

Has anyone checked stage6.com? there are some nice divx Spinal Tap thangs there.

Thanx,

Hiya:

I feel kinda invisible here. I'd really like to find out more about the Spinal Tap Omnibus. I'm a huge fan... I have some of the stuff that has been mentioned here, and I'd sure like to help this creation... but I can't get any response at all.

I've tried to contact people in this forum with no luck at all... I've put other poster's names into the "Send a Private Message to" engine and the same window just refreshes with no place to leave a message.

So, I'll leave my email: leesagrrl@yahoo.com

Thanx,

i just came across this... It looks like something pretty fantastic...

But... speaking of Luddites... I am definitely one when it comes to this stuff... I've read this entire 5 pages of this post... and I'm still thoroughly confused.

I'm fairly active on a few torrent sites, but when it comes to newsgroups, I am completely at a loss.

Is any of this available as torrents anywhere?
