Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

With all this talk about the colour timing changed, has it been confirmed that they are actually talking about the Original trilogy and not the PT? Because almost every screenshot that is now available from the OT has the same colouring as the 2004 versions, yet the PT has had some colour timing changes. TPM of course, but just look at the Kamino shots. The colour timing here has been altered a lot. The battle between Obi-Wan & Jango outside is now green, whereas before it was more blue. The colour timing here too has changed the colour of Obi_wan's lightsabre to cyan.

George does love his cyan ;)

I just threw up in my mouth...

Now, tell me that I wasn't right, when I said that Ady's work influenced Lucasfilm. Check this clip and look on Vader's eyes:

http://moments.starwars.com/scene/162

Yes, they are black.

Sadly, this confirms that those clips are took from BD. Why is it sad? Well, I checked all pictures from OT SE and sadly, color timing is almost unchanged from 2004 DVDs and lightsabres (except for ROTJ crossed sabers) are not fixed.

So, thank you Lucasfilm again for this "countless" hours spend on BDs. I bet the green saber on the Falcon is still the same (maybe it is yellow this time?).

And now a gift from Lucasfilm:

Gift, what gift?

Crikey! look at those glaring matte lines?

Well it doesn't loon  good for the special features disc (disc 9) for anyone hoping that we're going to get high quality versions of the old docs. Looks like Lucas is pulling a 2006 bonus DVD on us again. I've been having some PM's with someone that knows a bit about the sources used for the discs and i was sent this reply (edited to removed clues to identity)

Ady

After your recent conversations with [deleted] i was asked to contact you because i have a little more knowledge on this subject.

I do know that there have been some minor color alterations but i cannot comment on the extent because this was not my department.

The original special feature documentaries will only be on the final disc in the complete saga collection. These, however, could only be presented in standard definition. While there are copies of 16mm prints for these documentaries, there was no green light given to use these for the source of the special features. Instructions were given to find the digital masters which were used for the original release versions. I am unsure if these were the same used for the VHS or laserdisc copies but a colleague informed me that these masters were produced in the 1980's or 1990's (although i cannot confirm this). As far as i am aware no post production work was done on these masters  to prepare them for the Blu-Ray collection. Having seen [deleted] at [deleted] there seems to be some issues with digital artefacts caused by the interlaced source used and from the original digital conversion. The same procedure was used for some deleted scenes seen in the Empire of Dreams documentary as these scenes were also taken from older digital copies.

He went on to give me some more information that i cannot post here because it may reveal his identity. So it doesn't look good for all of the original trilogy stuff then :(

I have been weeping for days since the purple and pink Lightsabers, and now this! it's turning into a monster of disasters and flippancies from Lucasfilm...

is it me or is Vader's blade at an odd angle here should it not be a bit more horizontal?

No. THe blade has the right position (you can check it in the one frame that doesnt have the roto on it.

The illusion that it looks in an odd angle is because vader's lightsaber emitter is angled. since the rotoed blade doesnt start from the angled point it looks odd but not a problem :)

Here you can see what i mean:

Also between the shots there are some continuity errors.

Vader's position changes even its the same camera angle

the lights are off and the reflection of the lights are changed.

I believe moving the first shot of vader to the center is a good choice because he isnt interacts so much with the BG and not having problems with the smoke.

(Blame the maker, imageshack messed with my pictures so sorry for the quality)

Looks like Vader kept Dooku's Sabre after ROTS?

different perspective:

Those photos 'on set' are truly shocking! but saying that they are pretty tame considering the gore in movies today, I don't know why I'm so shocked by those when in the same movie we have the bloody and barbequed skinless Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru!

Updated version of my older platform mockup:

Now the matte is accurate with the set.

Added the missing hallway around the pylon as well the interior details and colors are the same with the next set shots..

Thanks WookieGroomer and his HD version that im using from now on :D

The light behaves more natural me thinks..

And the perspective is corrected as well

Absolutely gorgeous picture babes! but one criticism, the red window is in the wrong spot.

How about this, im not sure..

If we relocate Piet's position to be in the correct location/spot based on ESB topology, then he should have a backdrop like this right?

-Angel

Pretty cool as far as the de-bluing and backdrop go, but again, I advise exercising restraint when it comes to edge enhancement, and to a degree the color desaturation. Piette's fleshtone looks more than a little sickly here, and the edge enhancement kind of expounds it. He kind of looks like he's a dying old man.

 He looks like palpatine

Poor guy, you work for the old 'living dead' Palpy and the stress makes you look like him!
