Thanks for making these samples! I think for the sake of the scene, I would also re-do the “What could you give me” just so the whole thing fits as good as possible.

I’ve tried that but it gets complicated to match his delivery given his pause midsentence.

Here’s with that new suggested line: https://drive.google.com/file/d/14BLjRexChM1vWw9GOUefxmCcALw6LeIX/view?usp=sharing

There was a lot of clamor for a new final line for Ben. I was never outright opposed to the idea, but I didn’t think it was worth the effort to find the right source audio.

Since you’ve already done that for us, I suppose this is back on the table. It could be something he says to her through the Force after fading away, or we could try to find a spot where you can’t see his mouth very well.

Personally, I’d like to make the “finish what his grandfather started” link more explicit. Saving the one he loves from certain death and all that.

Ok that could be interesting. I personally feel it’s unneeded but if people come up with a line I can generate to convey that idea then I will gladly do so.

Somehow, it has to be clear that it’s a weak clone with the actual essence of Palpatine within. Having Kylo deliver that line gives more credence to the former rather than to the latter.

I see what you’re saying. Although I think the previous Palpatine line “Kill my and my spirit will pass into you…” kinda already suggest that his essence was transferred to this body.

Also, if you guys remember any earlier ideas to use Adam Driver’s voice that would be worth revisiting, let me know and I can try generating some of that.

What about: “You possess dying clones… what could you give me?”

I’ll check on that.

Are you using ElevenLabs? I feel like whatever you’re using isn’t detecting the robotic side of his voice and as a result doesn’t end up sounding much like Vader.

I am using Eleven Labs but to be fair I did use a really small sample to generate the voice. I’m sure I could get it to sound much better as this was just mostly a proof of concept.

Hal 9000 said:

I don’t think that’s necessary, and the voice isn’t anywhere near where it’d need to be for the commanding opening lines from JEJ’s infamous character.

I think that’s fair enough. Like I said, I think I could work the voice to get an acceptable match to JEJ but if you aren’t sold at a conceptual level then I will stop pursuing it.

On another note, I think I have been able to get a fairly decent helmetless Adam Driver clone. I’ve been playing with this idea:

Disclaimer: the video quality is bad but I think it gets the idea across.

Sorry for the double post but I have another unrelated idea that might be more feasible.

Basically, given that we see in the crawl that Kylo is on Mustafar chasing whispers of a hidden power and we see Vader’s castle, what if as soon as Kylo finishes killing the cultists he hears the voice of Vader guiding him towards the Wayfinder and that’s what makes him turn his head so suddenly? A line like “You are ready”. And then when he reaches the Wayfinder, instead of having the voice of Palpatine say “Find me” we hear Vader saying something like “You must finish what I started”.

I think this way the audience can make a stronger relation between Vader, his castle, the Wayfinder and it quickly reintroduces Kylo Ren’s existence in the shadow of his grandfather. By doing this, when he arrives on Exegol, the reveal of “I have been every voice you have ever heard inside your head” feels even more surprising given that its giving you a twist on the earlier assumption that Vader was talking to him and also when Palpy says “Become what your grandfather could not” it now feels like its something that has meaning to him as a character.

EDIT: Here’s some possibilities I could come up with https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/12Jo7BzwKq4q8ylY4eQTz2lSoKaKpVslz?usp=sharing

I’d say Finn’s arc in TROS is moreso about learning to fight for the galaxy at large - particular ex-troopers - and not just for the Resistance. He charges into battle with ex-Stormtroopers that aren’t technically a part of the actual Resistance.

I agree that that’s his character arc once he meets Jannah. But there is literally nothing for the audience to chew on from him as a character before that. Also, that particular struggle is never really set up early in the film.

At the end of the day however, the movie will always end up with him being Force sensitive and that does have the potential to have some through-line across the film. I feel that if there’s anyway to add back those bits and pay it off with AI, it will not only strengthen the Force sensitivity storyline so it’s set up from the beginning but also it will give him something to have in the first half of the movie.

As it stands he’s the only one on the trio that has nothing going on until they reach Kef Bir. Even Poe has the fact that he does shifty stuff planted since Passana, which eventually leads to Kijimi.

Again, I understand completely why this is not a popular idea but I personally feel that it’s worth exploring.

I understand how it could be potentially annoying and misconstrued as a love declaration, however I do feel that it isn’t until Finn talks to Jannah about the Force that any sort of characterization for Finn kicks in and that’s deep into the second act of the movie. By having this running gag I think at least he has something and the reveal of his believe in the Force to Jannah isn’t as out of the blue.

Also by having Rey’s force whisper to him at the end of the movie, there is a potentially neat full circle moment as it harkens back to the change made in TLJ when Finn wakes up by hearing Rey. Just my two cents.

I have been thinking about the possibilities of AI voices. Given that Finn has the least punctuated character arc, I was thinking if we can restore the ongoing gag of Finn saying to Rey he needs to tell her something and have an AI voice of Daisy pay it off at the end of the movie.

I was thinking either at the end, when they’re looking for each other during the celebration at Ajan Kloss or when the trio is hugging and Finn starts crying. Maybe have Daisy’s voice echo in Finn’s head saying something like “Finn. You don’t need to tell me. I can feel it in you.”

Hey Hal, I don’t know if this has been reported to you but there is a popping sound in the audio in both English tracks at 1:10:23. If ever you do a new version with that AI Luke line, I’d suggest taking a look at that.

On another note, I know this has been brought up before but I’m of the opinion that Poe and Rey’s introduction is better left out given that it was done to set up Colin Trevorrow’s unmade Ep. 9. As it stands, it’s kind of a weird thing that draws attention to itself, which if it were never brought up one would’ve assumed they had already met each other between scenes in TFA.

I hereby declare V3 to be ‘sync-locked.’ While I won’t rule out minor tweaks that do not impact audio/video sync, the timeline overall is locked into place. This allows me to chip away at all the things that remain to be done and get this to release.

And once that’s done, pretty sure that’ll be it for me and the Sequel Trilogy. Pretty happy with how it all shaped up, all things considered.

Awesome. Has the changelist been finalised?

Added ‘Sith Eyes’ to ‘Evil Rey,’ including replacing her milky eyes for one shot (FX by Burbin)

Reinstated previously cut dialogue as the heroes reunite at the Resistance base, replacing the term ‘lightspeed skipping’ with ‘lightspeed ramming’ (AI voice provided by Jar Jar Bricks)

New dialogue for Poe during the briefing scene establishes clearly that the Final Order fleet consists of modified ships from the Empire, rather than implying they were built from the ground up later on (AI voice provided by Jar Jar Bricks)

Added two short, unobtrusive new lines for Leia to Rey (AI voice provided by Jar Jar Bricks)

Added new dialogue for Kylo Ren during his ‘ForceTime’ duel with Rey to provide a more focused retcon of TLJ and make it explicit that Rey’s parents paid Unklar Plutt rather than selling her (AI provided by Jar Jar Bricks)

Replaced Kylo Ren’s line “I never lied to you” with “You were right” for more intuitive and precise continuity with TLJ even as the scene retcons it. In that film, it is Rey herself who supplies the information that her parents “were nobody.” (AI voice provided by Jar Jar Bricks; voiceover provided for prior versions by poppasketti)

Altered Kylo Ren’s line to, “We’ve become a dyad in the Force,” which feels like it builds on TLJ’s ending (AI voice provided by Jar Jar Bricks; audio used in prior versions from sherlockpotter)

Replaced the obtuse reminder while working on the Falcon that 3PO had his memory erased in the form of a line wishing they had an R2 unit to help (AI voice provided by Jar Jar Bricks; audio provided for prior versions by Chase Adams)

As 3PO has his memory restored, he no longer implies this was Rey’s very first mission, as it either has or will surely be retconned by ancillary material (AI voice provided by Jar Jar Bricks)

The FX for Leia’s now purple lightsaber has been color corrected to look less pink during sequences on Exegol than in prior versions (color correction by Burbin, FX by Skenera)

Wasn’t there a line thought about for when the crew is looking at the wreckage of DSII and Poe tells them that someone’s coming?

In the meantime, for anyone interested in this, I made an unofficial alternate audio track with the Temuera Morrison voice lines (with better line delivery taken from various other media) and Obi-Wan calling Yoda “A Jedi Master who instructed me” rather than “The Jedi Master”. These changes were borrowed from Hal9000’s edit. PM me if you want the link.

Thank you. This is supremely helpful.

I like this quite a bit. May I suggest replacing “us” with “any opposition” just to make it clear that they’re a threat to every world in the galaxy and not just to Ajan Kloss or the Resistance.

So something like “Their fleet could annihilate any opposition with their superlaser cannons

And I wonder if we can do any better of a line for Poe about the Final Order fleet than “Each ship has been modified with dreadnaught-tier laser cannons.” I think if it had been in the theatrical I’d have rolled my eyes real hard. Perhaps something like, “Our forces (or The Republic’s forces) are completely inferior,” or “We couldn’t hope to challenge them.”

I completely agree it can sound like overly expository dialogue. I do think however that the cannons need to be explicitly referenced in some measure to set up why they’re important to destroy in the final act. If not referenced, then I think it might be necessary to reinstate the destruction of Kijimi scene plus its aftermath, to set up the importance of the cannons (which I would be cool with, although I know a lot of people don’t like it).

On another unrelated note, I had a thought about the dessert chase scene when Rey, Finn and Poe split up right after the cut of “They fly now!”. I think it might be useful to add an AI line of Rey screaming “Split up!” or something to that effect since right now they do so without any verbal communication. It works as it is, but I think it might be further reinforced by Rey telling them.

I was watching V2 of this edit last night for a lil May the Fourth celebration and I had a couple of ideas that I think might be worth thinking about:

  • The opening crawl.
As it stands the first paragraph of the opening crawl reads:

Flames of rebellion burn across the galaxy. The tyrannical First Order has retaliated
by attacking any planetary system that supports their enemy.

I would suggest changing it to:

The spark of hope burns! Following the heroic sacrifice of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, the tyrannical
FIRST ORDER silences endless acts of insurrection across the galaxy.

    Why?

    1. Because it sets up that Luke was directly responsible for inspiring the galaxy, which in turn sets up the puppet show, and more importantly the civillian fleet at the end.

    2. Mentioning that the First Order is silencing insurrection informs why Poe believes the galaxy has given up fighting when talking to Zorri. It also plays into the theme of “They win by making you think you’re alone”.

    3. The fact that the insurrection is ‘endless’ gives the First Order desperation, which adds motivation on why Kylo is so bent on finding help from the hidden power.

  • Revert the way Mustafar was edited in V1, without Vader’s castle.

    Why?

I know this will be an unpopular opinion but I think the inclusion of Vader’s castle offers more questions than answers for an unsupecting viewer. For one thing, we only see it in one shot and it’s not further explored in any way. We just see Kylo Ren kill people in a forest nearby and grab an evil artifact. The movie doesn’t explain the relationship between Vader and that artifact until much later in the movie, and when it does it’s only implied. Even then, the movie doesn’t explain the relationship between Vader and that castle. You have to fully rely on your knowledge from other media (not even the saga movies) to understand the significance of that castle. This is all to say, it’s a great shot conjured by this great community but I think it’s potentially confusing and arguably hurts the pacing.

  • Add new AI voice of Rey that smooths transition from Palpatine smiling at being ask “Who is she?” to Rey floating in Ajan Kloss.

    Why?

I’ve always felt it was weird to do a cut to black in Star Wars since I first saw TROS (although that is the least of its editing issues). Now that the question to “Who is she?” is followed by Rey floating and asking the Jedi to “Be with me”, I think we could take advantage of that black screen and add Rey saying something like “Masters. I’m the last of the Jedi. Please. I need your guidance. Be with me…” and then the rest of the scene plays out. This I think might help smooth the transition and thematically it also answers, in a way, Kylo Ren’s question of “Who is she?”. Well “the last of the Jedi” (even though I know they’re really refering to her lineage).

Anyway most of the other stuff is the AI voices previously suggested in this thread.
