2007 Star Wars DVD Collection Release
Time
Well, I work at a store that sells DVDs and my boss, the DVD manager, attended a DVD managers conference for all DVD managers Australia-wide (just for our chain of stores I believe). The studios presented their upcoming titles as well as informing about future (christmas) sales promotions.

A handful of promotional things went on:
* Wilfred was walking around and took the stage at one point
* There was a video message from the cast of Knocked Up promoting their upcoming DVD
* Another video message from Kenny

The main thing however, was the presentations (think powerpoint here) of new titles. A lot of the cover art was not yet allowed to be public and hence they do it this way to stop people from taking photos and stuff. There was a number of titles of interest for the coming months, though many that I can remember are 'complete collections' for TV shows:
* Blade Runner: Final Cut (2-Disc, 5-Disc, 5-Disc in Deckard briefcase - see below)
* Transformers (2-Disc, 2-Disc with tin, 2-Disc with transforming case)
* Complete Family Guy Box (Seasons 1-6, Uncovered, Freaking Sweet Collection, Happy Freaking Christmas)
* Complete M*A*S*H Collection (same as the stateside one, different packaging I believe? Glad we're gonna get it)
* Complete Six Feet Under Collection (may've had special packagaing, need to check)
* Repackaged James Bond Ultimate Collection (now includes Casino Royale, probably current release with revised cover art, and Casino Royale branded poker set)
* Die Hard Box Set (Special Editions of all 4 films, to replace the current money-making 3-film, single-disc each set)
* Rocky Complete Collection (replaces the current box set by including Rocky Balboa and better packaging. Also comes with Rocky "Italian Stallion" gown)

Remember, this is here in Australia. I will talk to him again tomorrow and see if he remembers any of the cool stuff and post again. I know he mentioned the "Cloverfield" trailer being shown. He may have also seen other footage from the film, will double-check.

Anyway, this isn't to stir people up. I just thought you guys should know that there are plans and things happening for a Star Wars megaset, which contradicts the official word we've heard all year. The word from Fox was that because its still at that uncertain stage that it could end up being a smaller set or that it might be delayed. However, they were mentioning it to say that it was probable an Australian release would follow. He did say that they made a point of the set being "every version / every format" or something to that effect - basically, the original and SE versions of the film (plus a ton of extras).

Here are the two pics of the Blade Runner collection that were mistakenly put up early on EzyDVD several months back. The press release for the US R1 versions have been made available at DVD Active now, but EzyDVD's page listing caused a stir back when there was no concrete info. You can see the pics and that original preliminary info, still here.

2007 Star Wars DVD Collection Release
Time
Hey.

There is a 16-disc set in the works for September, guys. This is just what I heard from my boss who attended a DVD conference recently. There's also going to be 'transforming case' packaging for a collector's edition of "Transformers" and of course 3 different editions of Blade Runner. Blade Runner being: 2-disc set, 5-disc set and 5-disc set with collectible packaging.

So, this in Australia, but the word about the Star Wars mega-set was for a US release. I imagine that if it does end up being the 16-disc set that it'll make its way here shortly afterward.

Wonder if anybody else in the industry can confirm this?

T-HOPE ULTIMATE TERMINATOR PROJECT (Mainly Released)

Nice and simple is okay. That looks fine to me. Will be cool once this is done. You are to be commended on gathering all this stuff together. I would suggest burning a DVD-R (or a couple?) with the menu files and DVDLab project files, etc. So that if you manage to uncover some more stuff, or some of the current contents in better quality, that you or someone else could easily create a "version 2". I do that with all my projects and it has proven useful in the past.

Transformers the Movie (1986) - Supplemental Disk (* unfinished project *)
Time
Well, I'm quite busy and have far less for the 1986 film than I thought I did. At the moment I only have FLV files captured off MySpace for the following:
* Stan Bush "The Touch" Music Video (with Powermaster Prime & Tommy intro bumper)
* US 20th Anniversary Special Edition DVD Trailer
* UK Metrodome Ultimate Edition DVD Trailer
* SS2K Fan Trailer for the 1986 film
* "Transformers: Tatakai" Opening FMV
* "Generation 1 on DVD in 2007" Trailer. Metrodome perhaps?

The rest of the stuff I have falls into other categories. Once I get some more time I'll be tracking down good quality copies of stuff for my project and will of course keep an eye out for the above. I am getting in touch (no pun intended) with people who may have good quality versions of the Stan Bush music video (ie. not MySpace-compressed FLVs).

Great minds think alike?

I had a few of these things as ideas in my head for my Transformers disc project. However, mine was more focused on the stuff leading up to the movie. In any case I will be contributing to this thread. I have to go to work now, but when I get home tonight I'll pop in here and post some info.

By the way, the recently released Transformers Movie Special Edition R4 DVD (and original version actually, both) have the Stan Bush music video, however the quality is horrendous. I've seen a much better version floating around on MySpace and have since captured 4 different uploads of it. One or two of those include the Tommy/PM Prime intro.

The above leads me to my last comment til later; I scoured MySpace and captured a bunch of videos I want to use in my project. Having said that, I am of course looking for better quality versions and trying to get in touch with some of the uploaders but I have a few things you'll want.

Will be back in several hours.

"The Clones Revealed" (Released)
Time
The PiP idea, Johnny, is one to think about. However, I don't really think it is for DVD. I know a lot of the new HD releases (HD-DVD only?) have IMEs (In-Movie Experience) which is somewhat of an audio/visual commentary with content playing out in a smaller window. I think that would be the ideal way to present some of these projects, but they just don't work on DVD due to the bitrate and resolution limitations.

Having said that, Daveytod, what say you on a high bitrate, high resolution DVD-R sized XVID with the content rendered in as PiP?

Help Wanted: Canadians - anyone able to capture the "Transformers Making Of"?
Time

Hey there.

I am going to resurrect my Transformers project. I’ll post about that later. However, right now, having seen the movie 1.5 days ago, I’m interested in getting the promo stuff that’s airing on TV at the moment. Some of it’s available on youtube, but I don’t want that as the source for a DVD. Plus, this is new.

So. Is there anybody out there who’s able to capture this “Transformers: The Making Of” special? Please let me know. I’ve downloaded the HBO First Look special but as always am looking for the best quality of everything I have.

I will make a post in several hours time with info on what I intend to do with my DVD and the current stuff I have collected for it and in what quality.

23.976 to 29.97 fps - How do I do it without speeding up the video?
Time
I ended up using the avisynth way. I still got the problem of it being recognised in TMPGEnc as 30fps though....

Then I worked out what was wrong. When I was exporting the backplate and mask from DVD-Lab as AVI files, it defaults to 30fps as the framerate. I tried to export them again as 23.976, but it seems DVD-Lab only allows whole numbers. Odd. Anywho, I simply opened those two files in VirtualDub and changed the framerate. Then when I ran the avisynth script, well, everything worked.

Thanks again pittrek for the quick answers. I really appreciate it.

Now I hope that this thread can be of some use to others.

I haven't seen the context of that short bit of text, but is it possible they mean the DVD/Hi-Def release of HP&OotP? As opposed to the theatrical release I mean.

Also, isn't HP4 available on HD/Blu-Ray in one of the regions?

EDIT: Never mind, I just went to check Digital Bits and saw the news myself. I too find it hard to believe that the discs will be out that soon. :/

23.976 to 29.97 fps - How do I do it without speeding up the video?
Time
Pittrek, thanks for the quick reply. However I need to bug you for more info on all 3 options:

1) If I wanted to modify my script how would I do so? I'm new to AVIsynth you see, this is in fact the first time I've used it successfully. Here is my current script:

#------------------------------------------------------
# 1 Load Menu Background & Mask
BackGround = AviSource("Background.avi").ConvertToRGB32()
Mask = AviSource("Mask.avi").ConvertToRGB32()

# 2 Load Clips
Clip1=AviSource("ep601.avi").ConvertToRGB32()
Clip2=AviSource("ep602.avi").ConvertToRGB32()

# 3 Start the Menu as a blank clip
Menu = BlankClip(Background).loop(600)

# 4 Size & Place the Clips
Clip1 = Clip1.LanczosResize(263, 220)
Menu = Layer(Menu, Clip1, "add", 255, 161, 231)
Clip2 = Clip2.LanczosResize(279, 210)
Menu = Layer(Menu, Clip2, "add", 255, 529, 240)

# 5 Mask & Place the Background
BackGround = Mask(BackGround,Mask)
Layer(Menu, BackGround, "add", 255, 0, 0)

# 6 Resize to D1
BilinearResize(720, 480)
#------------------------------------------------------

Where wouldI put the ConvertFPS command and how do I convert these AVIs (which are DivX/Xvid encoded) to MPEG2 with the script?

2) Do I use dgpulldown on the files before or after I run the script? On the AVI source files or the resulting MPEGs (after I run the script I convert the AVI to MPEG2 with TMPGEnc).

3) This one seems easy enough, but I suppose I'd have to convert the AVI source files to MPEG2, then drag them into DVD-Lab... and then how would I be able to use the AVIsynth script on the MPEGs?

Sorry for so many questions, I'm sure I'll be getting the hang of this avisynth thing soon enough.

Thanks in advance if you're able to reply with answers.

23.976 to 29.97 fps - How do I do it without speeding up the video?
Time
Hey guys,

I know the majority of you video whiz-kids here on this board are from the states and I need your help. I hate NTSC with all its interlacing, pulldown, differing framerates, etc. However, I am currently putting together a DVD for a friend with some television shows capped off US TV. The framerate of the episodes is 23.976 fps. What I am trying to do is make a motion menu using some short clips from each episode for a chapter/episode selection menu.

I can follow the guide easy enough (I'm using this one here by the way). The problem is that the resulting menu always looks sped-up because the framerate gets changed from 23.976 to 29.97. I don't think I can have the video framerate be 23.976 though. So, I am asking for your help. Am I able to keep the video at 23.976 fps? Or, if I have to change the framerate, how do I do it so it stays normal speed? And finally, when do I make this conversion? Before running the avisynth script? Or after that but before converting the AVI to MPEG.

Please, encoding wizards and DVD-Lab masters, I humbly ask for your wisdom.

Info Wanted: Fullscreen versions of James Cameron's movies?
Time
I am adamant that I pick up the OAR version of a film when I buy it on DVD and this has sometimes led to me buying DVDs from overseas (to avoid an incorrect aspect ratio on the local DVD release). However, as I've said in the Harry Potter threads, I would really like to see some of the "more visual information" versions of Super35 films. James Cameron is probably the most widely known director to use Super35 and seeing any of his films like this would be cool.

Well, in that case it'll still be cool to see the "open matte" versions of HP1, HP2 and HP4. You see, we don't get all the dual releases that you USA folks get (ie. a fullscreen version in addition to the proper OAR widescreen version). While in most cases this doesn't matter, in the few cases where the fullscreen is a differently framed transfer from a Super35 print, it's worth seeing. I think there's an amusing shot around that demonstrates that there's slightly more nudity in Terminator 3. Don't think that's from this forum though.
