But to see all these, wouldn't it be via crappy home video? Or is someone able to get their hands on the tapes that were actually used for the masters?
Also, in the BTTF one; weren't there 2 screens. You had the big screen in front of you with where you were headed. Then you had a smaller screen with the Doc constantly talking. I'm not sure as I've only experienced this ride (and the T:3-D thing) at Universal Studios Japan. Everything was dubbed in Japanese.
Those screenshots appear like that due to the video being anamorphic. That's how the encoded video looks. Once in the DVD player (or you view those screenshots with a different pixel aspect ratio) they are stretched to the proper size.
THX-1138: Sounds really good. So all those features that you've listed have never since been released? I look forward to hearing the BANNED commentaries, why were they considered 'unacceptable', do you know?
boon23: Okay. Well I've started 'Doomed' and I've got about 8MB. Can't seem to connect to the seeder (I suppose that's you, right?). I'll stay on it and see if it improves. Of course, as this is a very hard to seed/DL torrent I will of course seed to a ratio of 1 or 2 (if I manage to download it).
It's nice to hear that more CBB editions are on their way Still messing around with the cover art ideas, maybe something good will come of it. Actually, can you please tell me which font is used for the "Doomed by the Boogeyman" title? Thanks.
boon23: Thanks for seeding, but unfortunately I'd already deleted the file. :/ I'm on a 256k connection, though. So, would you stick around until I'd downloaded it (need to know if I should start downloading again)? Also, is it worth downloading if you'll be redoing it? Or does that not include Doomed by the Boogeyman?
I started tinkering around trying to design a new cover template for you as well as I wanted to make some cooler covers for the CBB Editions.
I recently tried getting "Doomed by the Boogeyman", but it died when I had about 200MB of 2GB. I thought if I got in quick enough i'd be able to download it all. Not so. I know CBB uses TPB for their torrents, but they don't stay seeded; once they die, they die for good. Having said that, if Rikter manages to get DVDrs of them, then I know we'll all be able to get copies if we wish in the near future.
boon23: Any chance you could tell us which edit/s CBB will be doing next?
That's right Mackey256. It should be seen through to the end.
And even if there aren't edits in one region, there may be edits in another region. For instance, while the US got a great Jaws 30th Anniversary Edition DVD, the R4 here in Australia lost the mono track, photo booklet and 15 minutes (!) of the 2hr documentary. So after waiting all this time, for no good reason at all, we get a cut version of the documentary. BTW, this is the 2hr doco that was on the Laserdisc.
Just to let any Aussie fans of The Frighteners on this board, that the Australian R4 will be a 3-disc set. I am soooo glad that we don't have to get the cruddy DVD-18 disc. Having 2 DVD-9s is a much better idea.
...and yes I am kinda bumping this thread... if this is still happening (and I hope it is - much like DFNYC's Criterion "The Game"), what's the status?
Well I've got all of Laserschwert's SW soundtracks to date (waiting on a higher quality version of KOTORII), and when I say I've got them I mean I have the MP3s, covers, even the html pages that were originally on the LucasSoundtracks site.
Anyway, I tried really hard to get screenshots from Jedi Knight but to no avail - sorry . They just kept coming up in bizarre colours or with glitches or whatever. I did get a list of the cutscenes for you though:
#*************************** # Names of Cutscenes #*************************** "01-02A" 0 "0 - A Jedi's Destiny" "03-04A" 0 "1 - 8t88's Double Cross" "06A" 0 "2 - 8t88's Escape" "08-10A" 0 "3 - The Vision" "12A" 0 "4 - A Father's Message" "16A" 0 "5 - Barons Hed" "18-19A" 0 "7 - Yun's Attack" "21A" 0 "8 - A Second Chance" "23A" 0 "9 - 8t88's Payment" "25A" 0 "10 - Cargo Ship Launch" "27A" 0 "11 - Brothers of the Sith" "33-34A" 0 "13 - Passage to the Lost Planet" "36A" 0 "14 - Maw's Revenge" "38A" 0 "15 - The Path of the Jedi" "39A" 0 "15 - The Lightside" "41-42A" 0 "16 - Sariss' Attack" "41DA" 0 "15 - Falling Ship Failure" "41DSA" 0 "16 - Dark Jedi Escape" "44A" 0 "18 - The Trespass" "46A" 0 "19 - Power of the Valley" "48A" 0 "20 - Boc's Surprise" "50A" 0 "21 - Jerec: The Force Within" "52-53A" 0 "22 - A Jedi's Last Challenge" "54A" 0 "15 - The Darkside" "57A" 0 "22 - Dark Emperor"
Sorry I couldn't actually cap the screens ingame. BTW, this list was found on the net and seems to include 'alternate' cutscenes... dark side ones i guess. Haven't played the game much, so I don't know.
I actually think out of all the ESB posters I've seen, coov, that this particular one that you've used in your latest cover there probably suits the "not using the same damn poster" idea the best. Well, 2nd to the magnificent red Vader one you did anyway
It's very teasing. The internet that is. I mean, there are many low-res pics of hundreds of unique Star Wars posters all over the net, but never any high-quality ones.
Perhaps you could PM laserschwert about his Star Wars soundtracks. It would be cool to include those as a DVD-ROM extra on each games' respective DVD. Maybe.
jephyork: Unfortunately, no I don't own the R2 German. I own the R3 MGM of AOD only. Sorry . And contrary to my name (which many think implies that I'm dutch) I'm actually an Australian. But anywho, I do hope that list comes in handy, and if you need them I have similar lists for the first 2 Evil Dead films.
jephyork: I printed off your post about your massive ED edit and read through it on the train, it was interesting. That's what I wanted to know about basically, how you joined the films considering the fact that the next one in the series always kinda rewrote the previous one. I really hope you can tackle a DVD version of this.
About that R2 German disc I mentioned... it seems that of the 4 cuts (in order from shortest to longest: Theatrical, European, Director's, Hong Kong DC) that the R2 is the Director's Cut in 4:3 Non-Anamorphic PAL. Considering you posted a list of the differing versions of AOD (which was helpful, thanks I never knew of the Sci-Fi Channel version having extra material), I found a list that tells us which DVD has which cut (sorry if it's a little crowded or if there are any mistakes):
R1 America - (Anchor Bay) - No cuts - Theatrical Cut. 1.66:1 Anamorphic NTSC. Also includes cropped 4:3 version. R1 America - (Universal Pictures) - No cuts - Theatrical Cut. 1.85:1 Non-Anamorphic NTSC. R1 DC America - (Anchor Bay) -No cuts - Director's Cut. 1.66:1 Anamorphic NTSC. R1 DC America - (Anchor Bay) - No cuts - Includes both Theatrical Cut and Director's Cut. Boomstick Edition. 1.66:1 Anamorphic NTSC and cropped 4:3 version. R1 SE America - (Anchor Bay) - No cuts - Includes both Theatrical Cut and Director's Cut. 1.66:1 anamorphic and 4:3 non-anamorphic NTSC. R2 France - (Studio Canal) - No cuts - Theatrical Cut. 1.78:1 Anamorphic PAL. R2 Germany - (Laser Paradise) - No cuts - Director's Cut. 4:3 Non-Anamorphic PAL. R2 Norway - (MGM / Sandrew Metronome) - European cut (85:04). 1.85:1 Anamorphic PAL. R2 United Kingdom - (Anchor Bay) - No cuts - Includes both Theatrical Cut and Director's Cut. 1.66:1 anamorphic and 4:3 non-anamorphic PAL. R2 United Kingdom - (Anchor Bay (box set)) - No cuts - "Director's cut". 1.66:1 Anamorphic PAL. 4th disc has the original unmatted 4:3 version of Evil Dead 1. R3 Hong Kong - (MGM) - No cuts - Full 96:12 min cut of the film, the longest cut of all the (official) releases. And includes the 2 second scene of Evil Ash stripping Sheila which is not on the Director's Cut. 1.85:1 Anamorphic NTSC. R4 Australia - (Fox) - European cut (85:07). 1.85:1 Anamorphic PAL.
Hope that's of some use to you. Sorry if it wasn't and I've clogged this thread with unneeded clutter.
jephyork: There is a fairly basic guide to Best Buy discs and other 'exclusive' bonus DVDs, right here at The Digital Bits. It looks like it only covers the current discs though.
jephyork: Just any little things you noticed or clever things you came up with to make editing the 3 films together easier. BTW, the German R2 of Army of Darkness has the fullscreen 4:3 video (in PAL of course).
jephyork: I'd like to hear about that 4.5hr version of the ED trilogy you made, having watched all 3 for the first time a few months back. I bought on ebay a necronomicon set - which I later found out was an asian bootleg - but I have the improved director's cut (the MGM Hong Kong one ReverendBeastly mentioned) and have seen comparisons of the different releases of the director's cut (from the link that ReverendBeastly provided). The improvement in quality is really something. Maybe you could email me some info about your edit? My address can be understood by placing klokwerk, my username, in front of gmail.com
I think Rikter has a DVD that's a transfer of the Japanese LD for Episode I. I think he also has a theatrical version of Episode II on DVD except that I think it's a camcorder bootleg. I'm not certain though, you should check his threads on the board, there's info around here somewhere.
