Creating subtitles

Does anyone know of a program that allows the user to view and monitor the video/audio as they are creating the subtitles, or something like that?

Well, if you're still looking, I recommend DivXLand Media Subtitler. It took me a little while to get used to it but I've not yet seen another program like it at all. Another good thing is that it's freeware.

Info: Mad Max Rarities/Road Warrior Japanese DVD

Folks, the r-18 is not a composite? read on imdb.com That version is the version that they used for the TV cut, However, it is uncut and unchanged, it has all the scenes from the theatrical. Plus the R-18 cut is the only version to have all of the original austrailian dialog like Mad max Special Edition.. All other version have english overdubs

That means that the R18 Cut contains everything from the TV Cut, in addition to the Theatrical Cut/Japanese Cut? If that's the case, then it is truly complete....

AND since it's only ever been on VHS, a DVD preservation should be allowed around here. I guess a project would be to recreate it as a composite from the various DVD releases (so we can have the R18 cut in the highest quality at any given time. Is that a taboo thing to discuss?

I didn't know that a TV cut of Mad Max 2 was floating around. I suppose there'd be bits in that which you wouldn't find anywhere else. Perhaps you might consider trading a copy of that with me? PM me.

I purchased Mad Max on DVD late last year, to watch it for the first time, and I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, unlike the US DVD there are barely any special features - though it does have DTS. Anyway, just a week or two ago, Mad Max 2 was aired on TV. My brother and I sat down and watched it and agreed we liked it more than the first. I've yet to see the third one (Thunderdome).

I am unaware of any rarities for Mad Max, however, I can quote some info about the OOP Japanese DVD:

Text taken from: Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) @ DVD Compare

The Original Limited Japanese Unrated release is fully UNCUT, but is Non-Anamorphic, only has 2.0 sound and VERY hard to find. There is another Japanese release which is Anamorphic, has 5.1 sound and some Extras including a featurette, but this version is slightly cut.

The current R1, R2's and the R4 releases are anamorphic and 5.1 however they are the US R-Rated cut, which is missing a few seconds (refer to cut notes below).
Beware however that the German and the old Swedish release are cut further 4m 25s, AVOID THESE VERSIONS!

I guess that means you might want to use an anamorphic NTSC DVD release (say the American R1) and insert the missing scenes from the completely uncut version. However, I don't know if we're allowed to talk about projects like that any more.

It was me. Let me see what I can do. I've got a massive usenet queue right now and will need my bandwidth for some other stuff for the next week or so. I'll let you know. Shouldn't be a problem if they've been posted.

Thanks. I would of course offer any of the discs that I have in trade. No rush, I suppose if they've only just been posted they should stay around for a little while.

Oh, for crying out loud!
If you're going to start relentlessly asking your questions in threads other than your "Where do you draw the line?" one, then you're more of an obnoxious dick than I thought. Zion's said that he's done some thinking due to your points and is going to rewrite the rules. Yet, you still insist on harping on about all this piracy stuff. If you find all of the projects on here questionable, then just piss off. Don't bother with a reply to this as the thread should not be derailed by your crap.

It's a bit expensive for myself, but Collectors/fans of Sin City/fans of Batman might be interested in the 1st Edition Leather-Bound Edition of Frank Miller's Batman Collected Graphic Novels. It ends soon, but it looks so nice. Would probably be cheaper for those of you stateside (the Aussie dollar is not great against the US)

Idea: The Lion King - Deluxe Edition LD Box Set [14 hours left if you want to do this!]
Time
It just ocurred to me, and I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but... I'm asking about a DISNEY film. O.O

I do not want to be attacked by the Mouse, but I think we can worry about that once the LD set has been purchased. From what I've heard it would be worthwhile getting this set, especially at its current price. Anybody who agrees, and would like to purchase this LD set themselves and do a transfer, it can be found here (on eBay).

Idea: The Lion King - Deluxe Edition LD Box Set [14 hours left if you want to do this!]
Time

Having seen it cheap on ebay at the moment (it’s got about 14 hours left), and remembering that the animation had been altered for the DVD release I was wondering if this LD is worth preserving?

The LDDB info is:
A wonderfully packaged box set loaded with special features: audio commentary, making-of documentary, storyboards, artwork, animation layouts, and much more. Included in the box is a portfolio of four concept art lithographs that are not as exciting as one might hope, but are nice to have nonetheless.

Sides #1-2 => CLV / Movie
Sides #3-6 => CAV / Supplements

Contains:

  • 6 postcards
  • 4 concept art lithographs
  • Trailer for “101 Dalmatians” (1996)
  • Trailer for “The Rescuers Down Under” (1990)
  • Music Clip of “Pocahontas” (1995)
  • Trailer for “Santa Claus” (1985)
  • Making of
  • Storyboards
  • Character Designs
  • Early concepts
  • Publicity
  • And more…

Apparently a lot of the extras didn’t make it to the DVD. I think if somebody has the money to spare to buy it, we should get it while it’s cheap, then worry about a transfer afterwardfs, what do you say?

I have 2 DVDs that are not the best quality but feature some of the items mentioned. Quality-wise this set is bad. The first disc features 2 things that would normally be presented fullscreen, however, they are centered in anamorphic widescreen - losing picture quality. Whereas, the 2nd disc is fine (all fullscreen), but the quality leaves a fair bit to be desired.

ALIEN ARCHIVES DISC #1:
Alien Director's Cut Documentary - Presented by Danny Boyle
Giger's Alien - Vintage footage of H.R. Giger at work on the designs for the film ALIEN

ALIEN ARCHIVES DISC #2:
Alien Evolution (Uncut) - Written and presented by Mark Kermode
Ridley Scott Interview - Don Shay of Cinefex magazine interviews Ridley Scott
Aliens: James Cameron: A Director and His Work - Exclusive visit to the set of ALIENS
The Making of Alien 3 - A rare look behind the scenes of the first three ALIEN movies
ALIEN 3 - trailer & international trailer
ALIENS - teaser trailer

Jonno:
I'd be interested in trading you the above 2 discs for your copies of the Evolution doco and Giger's Alien.

Segaflip:
I had a look around for a list of your releases and while SFX001 and SFX002 are listed as Friday the 13th Part 4 Uncut Tape & Composite, there was no extra information on them like the SFX000 release. I was just wondering if they are indeed done and out there. I am actually waiting on a copy of SFX000 from JackLucas too.
