I once considered editing an NTSC DVD for a fan-edit. I never did end up doing it because there are so many different problems caused by NTSC's framerates, interlacing, etc. That's why I appreciate all the DVD's you guys make even more - because I just couldn't handle fiddling with the many variables of an NTSC project. When I considered creating an Extended Edition of Serenity (using the PAL DVD) for example, the deleted/extended scenes were very poor NTSC->PAL transfers. Even in my beloved PAL DVDs there are sometimes things like that which remind me of the many reasons why I hate NTSC in general.
I'm not trying to derail the thread, just making a comment.
Jonno: Seeing everything listed there... I dunno. It's just a great feeling that we've come so far with the amount of material we have. I need to ask though, which (if any) of the Cinefex articles are included on the Quadrilogy set? I believe that either Alien or Aliens featured theirs on their special LD set, and hence it should have been ported over to the Quadrilogy special features. The reason I ask is because we should include the Cinefex articles in our discs. Here's a list:
ALIEN (1979): Cinefex #1 - March 1980: "Creating an Alien Ambience" Article by Don Shay (38 pages) Cinefex #6 - October 1981: "Computer Imaging - An Apple for the Dreamsmiths" Article by Peter Sorensen (25 pages)
ALIENS (1986): Cinefex #27 - August 1986: "Aliens" Article by Don Shay (64 pages)
ALIEN 3 (1992): Cinefex #50 - May 1992: "Alien 3: Zealots and Xenomorphs" Article by Bill Norton (26 pages) Cinefex #73 - March 1998: "Boss Film Studios: End of an Era" Article by Mark Cotta Vaz (4 pages)
ALIEN RESURRECTION (1997): Cinefex #73 - March 1998: "Cloning Aliens" Article by Bill Norton (20 pages)
Cinefex #1, #6 and #27 are out-of-print. We will need to track them down on ebay. You can still purchase Cinefex #50 and Cinefex #73 online from the Cinefex website. However, those issues might also pop up on ebay for a cheaper price. I want to collect all the Cinefex magazines, but I don't have the money to pursue that hobby any time soon. I have 2 or 3 issues in storage. I am not sure which ones they are, but I know they are none of the above issues.
I'd be interested in this disc too. I just assumed this thread was to let people know that you'd made a disc. Unfortunately, having just started University and having less and less time/money to spend - I hadn't posted here yet. However, count me as someone wanting to check out this disc.
Citizen: I'd be interested in the PAL DVD that you've made (if you manage to fix up the volume of the voiceover track). While my player can do NTSC fine, I have a few friends who have PAL-only players (I live in Australia). So, in their case, I'd like to give them PAL DVD-Rs. Let me know if you manage to work it out.
FanFiltration: I think it's "Battle for the Planet of the Apes" that featured the longer/darker cut. I could be wrong. However, whichever film it is, the laserdisc (the Japanese one at least) had the longer cut. The new DVD of this film will feature the longer cut. I hope it's via seamless branching as I would want the theatrical cut as an option alongside the option of the longer cut.
I'm sure somebody with ADM's extended versions will be able to get them to those who wanted them. However, if you're wanting the ABC Television Cuts (which have more footage that isn't featured on the DVDs) then you're out of luck. As of yet, I don't think anyone has captured these and made them into DVDs/torrents.
Rhett Thanas: Welcome! I can help you out here. There is a site called Brands of the World which has many eps files of thousands of different logos. I suggest you go to that site and type in lots of variations on what you want to find. For example: SW, Star Wars, ANH, New Hope, ESB, TESB, Empire Strikes Back, ROTJ, ROJ, Return of the Jedi, Faces, DefCol, Special Edition, etc.
I did this sometime late last year and downloaded all the Star Wars related logos, however, the disc that I burnt them to is far from being found. Good luck finding what you need. Sometimes there will be 2 versions of the same logo. Get both and take a closer look at them, one will be a bit sloppy due to someone recreating the logo crappily. The other one should be more polished. I think ESB is the prime example of this. I got the ESB ones again the other day for use in a cover for "Building Empire".
8t88: I translated what you said as "Your nickname sounds quite Nederlands". That's Babelfish's translation anyways. I am not dutch, though you're not the first person to ask if my nickname is dutch or if I'm from the Netherlands.
Jonno: I will burn that disc this weekend and get it out to you monday.
Batman Dead End is a good fanfilm, though I can't believe it cost $50,000. Anyway, I think it's more of a Predator-style fanfilm as he's fighting a predator for most of the film and the aliens only really come in at the end.
Max_Rebo: Thank you so much for that guide. I've saved it to my computer for future reference. However, having just started university life I have immediately found myself with far less time to spend on my pet projects. I'm afraid with the transfer problems inherent in the deleted/extended scenes from disc 1 and 2 of the Australian PAL DVD... I'm going to have to can this project.
Well from reading over the thread it looks like Jambe's decided that Rikter's disc is essentially what he was going to do. I could be wrong, that's just what I'm thinking at the moment. Jambe, care to enlighten us?
I have an annoying problem of, if I seek forward or backward through a video too many times or every couple of times that I pause a video I the speakers pop-and-crackle loudly in each one for 10-or-so seconds before the sound comes back to normal. I've only got the Combined Community Codec Pack and that's been on here for a while, I have no idea what has caused this problem - it's very recent.
And I want to say it's always nice to see customs for the Special Editions because there aren't nearly as many for them as there are for the OOT - on this forum that makes sense, but you know what I mean.
In case you didn't know, that image is in fact only half. The right hand side features characters from the prequels. Given that, if there was a scan of that second half of the image it would allow someone like yourself to create a similar cover to the SE one you've shown, that would feature the prequels. Not asking for one, just letting you know. Though it would make for a neat join-up on the spines.
Ell, you're right about that. However, I have yet to find a program which allows someone to create those sorts of "subtitles". For instance, I wanted to create a "subtitle" track that contained silhouettes much like the one on the first Ghostbusters DVD.
