NON-Star Wars Fan Edit and Alternate DVD Covers SHOWCASE
Time
There's a heap of hi-res stuff out there but unfortunately I only have TWINE stuff at the moment. Coincidentally, I was looking to download some Goldeneye posters last night. If you can provide a thumbnail of the EXACT version that you want (because there are some very similar ones out there for Goldeneye) then I'll be able to download a hi-res version for you. The same goes for O.H.M.S.S.

The reason I'm getting hi-res art for the Bond films is so that I can make a set of covers for the new Ultimate Edition DVDs (because the official ones will undoubtedly get butchered by ratings logos when they reach me here in R4 Australia). What're you making covers for?

A simple question regarding muxing AC3 and M2V/MPEG
Time
I am no newbie when it comes to video editing and that sort of thing. However, I am sick at the moment and rushing to complete a project for a friend. Can someone please point me in the direction of a simple utility that can; mux 2 AC3 files with an M2V video stream and output to a MPEG file? I tried MPEG Tools in TMPGEnc XPress but it only muxes 1 audio and 1 video track. Virtualdub does what I want - but only for AVIs.

The important thing to note is that the video isn't DVD-compliant. I just want to do this for an MPEG file to be viewed on the PC. I don't want to have to re-encode or scour through complex programs. There's gotta be a program made solely for this purpose, I know it. I just can't find it, wherever it is.

Can somebody help me out? Thanks in advance.

The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Director's Cut (Released)
Time
I have barely posted in this thread as it is, but I have been following it from the beginning. It's great to see that the final version of teh film is done and out there via torrent. I can't spare the bandwidth or cash to get it at the moment but I will hopefully manage to acquire it in a trade.

One question I have is: is all the content stored in the "thief" directory on your website available as DVD-ROM content on one of the many extra DVDs? I know you said something about an archive of this thread and all the hi-res stuff being on one of the discs, but you have posted images since then. Just curious.

Also, I wanted to make an odd not about the cover. I've always liked the cover art as it's progressed with small changes from one version to the next, however, I thought I'd point something out. Looking at the vectors of the characters' eyes on the front reveals the following:
* Princess YumYum looks as if she's scared of One Eye (looking in his direction)
* King Nod could be looking in fright at The Thief or ZigZag (not entirely sure)
* ZigZag looks schemingly in King Nod's direction
* The Old Witch stares at the pins in Tack's mouth
and the final one is the odd one:
* Tack seems fixated on The Witch's saggy chest

I'm not complaining or anything. Just making a quirky observation. Though I wanted to ask if you intended any of the above or was it merely coincidence?

Anyway, congratulations on getting this thing done after however many months of work. Have you sent discs out to the people of the original production that helped you out? Heard any comments back from them yet?

Info: 'Titanic II - The Surface' - fun short on youtube
Time
This phenomenon, usually called 'trailer remixing', is becoming increasingly popular. Personally I think the guys who did "10 Things I Hate About Commandments" are the best out there at putting together these things. You should also check out their first one, "Must Love Jaws", it is great.

Some others I've seen:
Titanic (as a horror)
West Side Story (as a horror)
...and the same page that links to those 2 mentions a "Sound of Music (as a thriller)" unfortunately however, it didn't have a link and I couldn't find it.

Info Wanted: Has anyone done any Unaltered Disney Classics preservations?
Time
I think ADM has done a DVD of Aladdin restoring the 2 sound changes. However, the main problem with the Disney releases is that the LD sets are expensive and hard to come by (on ebay at least). I actually asked if anybody would want to help out with a Lion King set that ported the Making Of special from LD to DVD. Nothing ever came of that however (as the auction I was watching finished).

I think Aladdin is one of the cases where it's not so much things were "changed", but things were reanimated. It would be nice to have transfers from all the LDs that contain unaltered versions - but that falls into a dangerous area. Plus, you generally don't want to mess with The Mouse by distributing a bootleg DVD. Still, I'd love for some sort of discussion to occur here in regards to the Disney LD's and possible preservation attempts: "The Making of The Lion King" being at the top of my wishlist.

[<( The Star Wars TV Commercials Project )>] (* unfinished project * - a host of info)
Time
I'm sure I remember someone on these boards providing the Vector Prime commercial for download once. I think that there might've even been a dedicated thread just for that one trailer.

Anyway, good luck with this project. It's a massive undertaking but would be well-worth it in the end. I'm sorry I can't help - I live in Australia and was born in the late 80's so I don't remember any Star Wars ads (they probably would've been the US ones anyway - nothing unique).

EDIT:
Looks like I was kind of right. The thread titled "Shadows of the Empire Trailer" turned up a copy of the Vector Prime trailer. The YSI link is there still but long out of date. I remember downloading it but I can't find it at the moment. You can ask daveytod for it, as it was him who provided it via yousendit.

Btw, I remembered I once archived the Force Commander mini-website. Here is the "teaser video" from the site (surprisingly it's still online!): Force Commander Teaser Video.

Strange question: Combine Fullscreen and Widescreen sources?
Time
I don't know. I'm sure there's a project out there waiting to occur that would find something like this useful. However it's been pointed out that for Star Wars at least it wouldn't be worthwhile. There are just too many different releases with different colours, etc.

You probably want input from the more technical people on the board though.

The front cover of DVD cover 2 is what I envisioned my Kirkless Generations front cover to look like. I could never find a decent way of merging the only pic of Kirk I had onto the image though. Whoever created the cover this time (still Castor & Troy?) they've done really well. I can't think of anything different that I'd do for mine (guess I won't be doing one).

ORIGINAL STAR WARS TRILOGY OUT 09/2006 BY LUCASFILM
Time

klokwerk, thanks but I don't think the interview really states the source for the footage.

This is Burns' comment:

"But I will say what was shocking was – and I think this speaks to the whole issue of restoration – those brief scenes that we used from the pre-Special Edition, in our mind's eye, they looked a lot better than they do when you go back and revisit them and you do see how the quality of the print and the quality of the negative really doesn't hold up the way you think it might. So you kind of understand why things have been revised and digitally restored."

Not exactly sure what he means. Is he saying the footage looks good because the original negatives look so bad? That'd be somewhat contradictory.

Well taking into account the small part before that:

One thing you may noticed about "Empire of Dreams" is that it uses footage from the original versions of the films, not the Special Editions. Kevin discussed that. "As a historian, it was important for us, in the telling of the story, to put audiences back in that theater seat in 1977 as I was. And so we did get papal dispensation to go back and use the footage from the pre-Special Edition release.

It looks like the bolded text says they used a print of the original. But I agree, it doesn't really confirm anything.
