Their a lot of reason's the 04 dvd's where rushed some say it was intentionally rushed and some believe because GL was working on episode 3 at the time and their was no time for a proper restoration of the SE. I know the issue has be beaten to death many times but until we see what the blu-ray box set has to offer and if  those issues will be fixed we won't know until we have the set in our hands.

I don't think he is that hard to understand guys. He's not an alien species that needs to be disected. He's the way a lot of fans are--the sort of middle ground people. Ken, like many people, knows it's important for the originals to be released, and would gladly own them. However, to them the SE is the same basic movie, which I would wholeheartedly agree with, and a version of the film that is more than acceptable. It's fun and enjoyable to watch. While they do regret the absence of the OOT, it's not a dealbreaker. They respect George Lucas and approve of his efforts, and respect that he is doing things the way he wants, although they may not necessarily like all the enhancements (for that matter, many people here would change some of the original effects and edits as well--see Adywan, Legacy edition, etc.).

So, they basically just like Star Wars as it is. Not hard to figure out. That's why, even though they may want the OOT, they aren't going to bash the hell out of GL for withholding it.

Agreed Zombie84.

It's not really a matter of Vs in this thread, it's a matter of preservation of the originals over erasing all others bar the latest SE.

That's the key.

Debating which version is your favorite is like debating which of the episodes is your favorite and subjective but if the previous versions only exist on fading film stock and rotting low resolution video that separate debate (fun as it is) can not happen.

I agree Preserving the original cuts of the OT as it was originally released is a must.

I have a suggestion... first, welcome back, Ken.  Your presence here is actually a wonderful opportunity for us.  Let me try to explain...

Many of us are perplexed at how so many people could think that what GL is doing is ok, and why they would think we are so stupid in demanding that the originals be restored.  Ken is one of the people giving the blu-ray a 5* review, waxing on about it without having seen it, parroting the lines we hear over and over, and appears from our vantage point to be one of George's utterly vacuous minion conduits for his revisionism.  HOWEVER, what sets Ken apart is that he is willing to come here and discuss it with us without calling us idiots.  If you think about it, that is rather remarkable. This is an unique opportunity to try - and we all know it won't be easy - to pick his neurons and maybe just maybe learn the source of what to us is an incomprehensible but frighteningly widespread hypnotic trance.

Ken may be the only "regular" on this board who actually seems willing to stick around and try to convey a firsthand view from the "other side", without calling us names.  He may not always be eloquent, but he is often more polite than we are.

I am reminded of those sci-fi movies, where the humans capture a space alien and try to keep it alive so they can communicate with it to learn their motivation.  This is one of those chances!  Let's not squander it... instead of needling Ken into leaving again, instead of laughing at his grammar, and most of all instead of trying to convince him that we're right, let's try and avail ourselves of this chance to do meaningful research into the minds of GL's contemporary fanbase.

Ken, if you're willing (and I hope you are), I'll start...

Ken, would it bother you at all if George Lucas never releases the original versions of the OT again?  Start with a simple Yes or No, then you can add explanation if you want.

No Puggo because desbite all of the changes made to the films through the years it's still star wars yes it may not be the way we all remember it but it's star wars. And anything to do with star wars is ok by me. GL is the one who created this saga and without him there whould not be more star wars films, books , comics , eu stuff etc today without him.  I like this whole SE VS OT debate it's fun star wars talk.

So you are saying people who will click five stars on a disc set they haven't seen yet are 'true' Star Wars fans but people who will post less than five on a disc set they haven't seen are just Lucas bashers?

Yes but not everone the reason behind those 1 and 2 star reviews is because of the un-known if the original cuts will be in the set or not.

My take is it's way too early to tell what the blu-rays will look and sound. The people on amazon.com that are giving them 1 and 2 star reviews have'nt even seen the finished product yet and are GL bashers. I am not saying everyone is but that's my take on the situation.

And the majority that are giving them five stars would be by extension GL gushers?

Yes but who knows which are true star wars fans and which ones are not on amazon.com but yes the 4 and 5 star reviews are true star wars fans.
