3d models don’t really look that convincing, It would be easier to pan down to a wide shot of the destroyer(could be rotoscoped from TFA or TLJ) with Coruscant just under it’s frame, Shot of Kylo on the bridge from TLJ, and then you can have Kylo’s Tie leave the destroyer from below.

Instead of the old republic shot, I’d suggest using this one but you might have to get rid of the smoke.

I did actually bump the scale up a little bit. The model was about 1100 pixels high when it should have been about 1300. I didn’t scale it all the way up, though, because it didn’t pass the eye test for me, and like Nev said, it could just have landed a little farther away. (I can bump it back down if this doesn’t feel right, though).

You have a good eye, jarbear! However, I wasn’t trying to match the lighting of the X-wing, I tried to match the lighting of the original Tie Fighter. Both the Tie and the shuttle have very sharp vertical wings which reflected super white in the original shot. I think it’s also because of the angle, where the X-wing is completely backlit from the lightning, creating a different effect.

I like this, though with the Rey/Kylo fight I can’t help but think it should be more Duel of the Fates, whereas with the Palpatine scene it’s a shame how much it’s cut down. Maybe if there’s a way to keep jonh’s full extended scene as well as the trailer music and the sfx?

ok, imagine we opened the movie with kylo looking for wayfinder in coruscant, instead of mustafar, and that vader left the wayfinder in the ruins of the jedi temple. poppasketti, a question, how difficult would it be to obtain a 3d model of a ship of the first order to appear in shot just like in ANH and ROTJ?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHfLyMAHrQE
if this were possible, we could include the montage of idir_hh, with kylo looking through the ship with the scene removed from TLJ, the temple ruins, and then with rotoscopes and some VFX, kylo entering the temple and finding the wayfinder…

I’ve got various Nasa planet clips I wanna use and I may even change the forest clip I’ve already finished as I think it needs a more sunset warm coloration.

Leia & Luke scene is so emotional! I thought Leia was a little defeatist at the end of TLJ so I’ve taken parts from that talk and recreated something new. It’s really beautiful, IMO. Just need someone to help with the day to night fx as I’m colourblind and it’s tricky to get right.

I’m thinking of releasing a rough cut and asking for help in my next video. What do you think? Glad you like the list so far though.

And changing the subject, another thing that I don’t like about TLJ and TROS, are the flashbacks, there are no flashbacks in the OT, it seems strange to me … I don’t like flashbacks hahaha.

last week I wandered in here and didn’t realize how far behind I’d fallen, and spent a good 30 or so minutes paging through all the additions and seeing scenes get invented, realized, and refined with every new click was pretty astonishing.

Thank you to everyone putting in all that work, and especially thank you to everyone being exceedingly patient with people like me who are only putting in suggestions, haha.

I’ll go back to just reading and watching from the sidelines again, but wanted to say thanks.

I don’t have any plans for my own cut, partially because I’m a little fried after editing TLJ (don’t know how Hal, DominicCobb and the others do it!), and partially because I don’t have any larger ideas right now about what I’d want to change. Nothing like your force-ghost magic! I’m just happy to watch the work and discussions on these threads and contribute bits here and there.

Yeah, I agree. I think of the issues the Mustafar scene has, the simple one I remember raised here is that it was unusual for a Star Wars opening to smash-cut from space to a planet surface. Usually there’s a couple establishing flybys. It’s one of the many pacing issues, and a little scene buffer could help.

Personally, I’m indifferent to Mustafar. Kewlfish, Chase Adams and others have done a good job mining options for this. I do think the battlefront footage, while fun, feels like a lot of extra outside material. If we do add 1-2 establishing shots to this scene, I think they should be simple shots that match well with the Kylo stuff.
