Star Wars theatrical versions not coming in 2015

I hope it's true just so the thread title is wrong.

Even if it's true, I highly doubt they're coming in 2015 especially if the steelbooks for the SEs were already released this year.

Before this story broke I agreed, but now that I'm thinking of it as an actual possibility instead of a hypothetical I'm not so sure. I figure the level of excitement about Star Wars among the general public is probably going to be the absolute highest it ever will be during these next few months. Even if The Force Awakens is a masterpiece beyond everyone's wildest expectations, even if the franchise has a long and healthy life at Disney, nothing's ever going to compare to the anticipation for this first movie after such a long drought. I think if Disney releases this just before TFA, they're going to make a lot more money than if they hold off a couple of years, just because enthusiasm will have waned by then. The same population of diehards is going to buy it whenever it comes out, but now is probably the best time to get casual viewers interested. And besides, by that point they'll have a few of their own films to repackage. I kind of have to think if we're going to get any significant re-releases of old material, it's going to come before Disney generates too much of its own content. I've also got to think Fox would be interested in doing this while they still own all three films. This is probably all just rationalization, but eh. A guy can dream.

I'm not too worried about the color timing, since however it comes out I'd wager there'll be seven or eight different regrades on here to choose from reasonably quickly. Personally I'd like to see something a little more subdued than the technicolor version that's generally accepted as "correct". It's more than likely just a result of my not being around for the theatrical release, but the 90s-era home video color palette has always felt most right to me.

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

I was just looking for the same thing. Haven't used them yet, but do these look right? http://www.chapterdb.org/browse/119468

Also, I'd consider it a great mercy if Harmy or someone else close to this project could emphatically shoot down the idea that this could be out in time for TFA, if indeed the idea needs shooting down. I know better than to ask for an ETA, but I'd be very grateful just to know if "it'll be done when it's done" means "it'll be done when it's done, which will almost definitely be after The Force Awakens comes out, so don't wait up with your marathons or viewing parties or whatever".

EDIT:^Just realized you're probably looking for the actual 27-chapter ROTJ DE timestamps, in which case I can't help you. I was looking to replace those with the standard 50 GOUT chapters to better match it to the SW 2.5 and ESB 2.0 discs.

Blu-ray vs. DVD-DL - Despecialized Edition
Time

I received a Blu Ray burner as a gift a couple weeks ago and immediately made discs from the DE MKVs, and good lord is it an improvement on the DVD-9. If your Blu Ray player supports it you can probably get away with just playing the files from a hard drive, but I've got an older Sony that only takes drives formatted to FAT32, which puts a 4 GB cap on individual file size. I don't know that I would have bought the burner on my own, but if you've got a friend or family member with one and your player won't take the MKVs, you should at least try to use someone else's to get them on discs, because they're really gorgeous.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

Just made a connection last night between Aftermath and what little we know of the Battle of Jakku that I can't believe escaped me at the time. Throughout the book, Moff Pandion keeps harping on the fact that Sloane is keeping the only Super Star Destroyer in service, the Ravager, hidden from the rest of the Imperial leadership. If there's only one SSD in the months after ROTJ, it has to be the same one that ends up wrecked on Jakku that the Falcon flies through in the second TFA teaser. This seems to be a strike against the theory I've seen tossed around that the mysterious Fleet Admiral at the end is Snoke, because the Admiral commands the Ravager and one would think it likely he'd go down with the ship. Of course, it's possible that it is Snoke and that he's no longer in command of the ship at the time of the battle, but I think it's more likely that we get either a new character in the vein of Thrawn (or, fingers crossed, a re-canonized Thrawn himself) mounting an Imperial comeback during the rest of the trilogy and ultimately having his last stand at Jakku.

Custom blu-ray setfor the Despecialized Editions

Gorgeous set, I'll definitely be using these. If it's not too much trouble, would you mind posting the labels as images rather than the PDF? I am one of those neanderthals still using adhesive labels and image files are just so much easier to work with.

EDIT: Never mind, forgot I could export them as images with Preview on my own.

Mac BD burning troubles
Time

Hey folks, quick question I'm hoping someone can help me with before I waste any more discs. I recently received a Samsung TSST SE-506C/RSBD usb 2.0 external blu ray writer that I'm attempting to use with my MacBook Pro, which is running OSX Yosemite 10.10.3. The drive is recognized just fine in Disk Utility, but every time I attempt to burn an ISO, it gets to about the 60% mark and then tells me the burn has failed and that I should try again at a lower speed. Trouble is, I get the same error when I'm at the lowest speed available. I thought it may be a problem with Disk Utility, but I got an identical error at the exact same time when I tried to do the burn in Aurora. Am I missing something, or is this just a much more finicky format than DVD?

EDIT: I got it to work on a Windows laptop I have access to, so my need is no longer urgent, but I'd still like to know if there's a trick for doing it with the Mac (other than buying Toast, that is).

MSW has this today: http://makingstarwars.net/2015/09/star-wars-the-force-awakens-knights-of-ren-symbol-other-jedi-implications/

Basically there's some card game where characters have symbols to identify their faction. Finn only has a Rebel Alliance/Resistance symbol, but Rey has one for the Jedi Order in addition to that. It's not a very comprehensive system (there's no symbol for the Empire/First Order and Kylo Ren is listed as a Sith), but this does seem to suggest that regardless of whether Finn is the one who ultimately ends up with the Skywalker lightsaber, we'll see Rey using some Force too.

When did you realize the Prequels sucked?
Time

My sister's in her 20s so the "from the mouths of babes" deal doesn't apply, but a couple months ago she wanted to rewatch the prequels after failing a buzzfeed quiz about them because she realized she didn't remember anything at all about them (she's a casual OT fan and is interested in TFA enough that she felt the need to review the whole thing). She couldnt even make it past the halfway mark in Clones. It may be the liquor, but I think sisters may just know what's up.

Done with Smuggler's Run. Probably my favorite of the three, exactly what it says on the tin ("A Han Solo & Chewbacca Adventure"). That Ematt guy from the Leia book played a major role in this one too, so I'm thinking he's definitely in TFA. Perhaps the middle-aged military type from the casting notice way back when? He's 20ish around the Battle of Yavin, which would put him in his mid-50s in TFA.

Lost Stars is a lot longer than I realized, so I'm going to take a break from this stuff and read something else.

Done with Moving Target. Again, if anything related to TFA happened in the actual story it sailed right over my head, but the epilogue seemed to take place ten minutes before or even during the movie. Right after Leia finishes telling the story to PZ-4CO another Resistance officer named Ematt (who actually appeared briefly in the story, so if he's in the movie I guess he's our connection) walks in and they chat about Poe Dameron for a bit before Ematt tells Leia that there's news from Jakku and they both leave for the command center.

Three quarters through Moving Target (the Leia YA book). It's a better story than the Luke one was, but I can't begin to figure out how any of this relates to TFA. I guess some of these new characters might turn up, but none of them have names we already recognize like Sarco Plank in the other book so it's hard to tell who's important. Going back to the creature shop stuff in the SDCC reel, the only way I can think of that this book ties into anything we already know about the movie is that it establishes that Leia and Nien Nunb are good friends. So maybe Nien Nunb has a substantial role in TFA? Meh. Maybe something happens in the last section that'll make the connection obvious.

Story is already several days old, but apparently the BBFC has passed a new trailer with a running time of 1 minute and 39 seconds. That would make it about twelve seconds shorter than the one from April.

I believe that actually IS the trailer from April, which is being packaged in the Avengers blu ray.

I was flipping through Aftermath in Barnes and Noble. The author is fond of colons (the punctuation mark) and sentence fragments. A couple pages back someone said the writing is terrible, how would you rate it?

I didn't love the writing by any means, but it was much easier to acclimate to than I expected it would be after reading the excerpt a couple months back. Before the halfway point I barely noticed it.
