Harmy's Despecialized Star Wars 1977 - Color Adjustment Project for v2.7 (released)

One thing I haven’t brought up until now is that the first 3 tracks, that were DTS-HD, are going to be the Dolby Digital versions from Harmy’s AVCHD release. For the seamless branching to work, the BD muxing software needs to mux part of the tracks into one m2ts and part into another, and the software doesn’t play nicely at all with these particular tracks. In fact, only tsmuxergui and multiavchd work well with those tracks in my hands. The extra disc space went into extra video bitrate. Again, an MKV version for anyone who finds this to be a dealbreaker.

Wait, so is it just an issue of the audio format tripping up the seamless branching or are the DTS-HD files also too large to fit on a BD-25 with the higher bitrate video? If I download then MKV with the '81 crawl rather than the ISO with the seamless branching, will I be able to fit it on a disc with the lossless audio? I only acquired a receiver that could handle 5.1 DTS-HD a couple of months ago, it seems like a damn shame to have to revert to DD on what otherwise looks to be my dream release as far as Despecialized goes.

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)
Time

The GOUT snowspeeders and Falcon windows on Bespin are really the only things that bug me about 2.0. Since I think I remember Harmy saying somewhere that he won’t be starting from scratch on ESB and ROTJ 3.0, I’d really appreciate some sort of 2.5 along the way, as it’s all work that’s being done for 3.0 anyway (like towne32 just said).

What is so wrong about gay romance being in Star Wars?
Time

Bingowings said:
For all we know there may be more gay people in Star Wars than straight. It’s just the straight characters talk on screen about it.

This is true, really the only sexual relationships we ever see in the films are Han and Leia, Anakin and Padmé, and Owen and Beru. Other than that, Luke and Lando both display interest in Leia, and I guess Jabba and Sebulba have weird interspecies shit going on (attraction to female twi’leks seems to be almost universal). So we’ve got six characters involved in heterosexual relationships, and another two who are shown to be attracted to the opposite sex. Literally everyone else could be gay for all the information we’re given (and any number of those eight could just as easily be bisexual as straight).

EDIT: Before this gets misinterpreted, I want to clarify that my point isn’t that Star Wars doesn’t need to add explicitly LGBTQ characters because if you want that you can just decide in your head that General Madine or Lobot or whoever else is gay. What I mean is that depicting a homosexual relationship isn’t going to have a disruptive effect on the story because romantic relationships are of secondary importance to the narrative (well, except for Anakin and Padmé, and we all remember how that went over). Beyond the fact that a Skywalker is probably going to have to reproduce at some point if the numbered episodes are going to continue beyond the ST, nothing hinges on a character’s orientation anyway, and so I see no reason not to be inclusive.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * <strong>SPOILER THREAD</strong> *
Time

Ticket prices have been one of the few consolations since I’ve moved back to suburbia after college in Boston. You can see a 2D matinee here for five bucks and change. It was almost ten in the city. Of course the trade off was that I got to see a lot more art house stuff and old classics in those days. The movies giveth and the movies hath taken away.

Saw The Witch yesterday and loved it. Predictably, there was some douchebag griping loudly as we left the theater about how “it wasn’t even scary” and it was "independent bullshit like It Follows" (a movie I also really dug). Honestly, horror fans are the absolute worst judges of horror movies.

EDIT: this article sums up a lot of my feelings on the subject pretty well.

There are EU characters that might be interpreted as being gay.

Hell, there are EU characters that are out-and-out gay:

How did you first see the Star Wars films?
Time

I know for a fact that I saw the OT on home video before the 97 SE, but I have difficulty remembering it. I’m assuming that those were the Faces tapes. Then after that, I saw the SE in theaters (the first time I remember seeing them clearly). Then the prequels as they were released. Then Harmy’s 1.0 cuts two or three years ago, and then the 2.x releases as they became available, as well as a host of other preservations.

I’m 26, for what it’s worth.

Peter Mayhew Tweeting Star Wars &quot;Journal of the Whills&quot; script. &quot;Big announcement&quot; to follow...
Time

I doubt it’s his retirement, we know he’s doing VIII and this seems like a weird time to be making announcements about what he means to do beyond that. Honestly, the OUT didn’t even occur to me when I saw this story yesterday. Here’s hoping it’s that. Maybe a young Han Solo casting announcement? Though I doubt that would be Peter’s news to break. I guess we wait and see. How many pages is the SW shooting script, anyway?

Perhaps that is because Star Wars preservations are the only media you watch where you have any strong preconceptions about what the correct look is.

I think that’s almost certainly what’s going on. In any case, this is definitely the closest I’ve seen to my idea of correct.

Sounds like your TV is probably set up well enough for most viewing. Might not be ideal for something as touchy as this, but oh well. I have definitely had abysmal luck copying people’s settings for identical sets.

Literally the only things that give me any trouble with these settings are Star Wars preservations.

I actually cribbed my settings from a guy on another forum with the same model TV as me who had his professionally set up. I use the temperature presets for quick adjustments, but I’ve got the 10 point white balance and all that set up.

The shots I were referring to were all in the first third of so of the film. The officer Vader speaks with on the Tantive IV, and some of Luke’s early indoor scenes. It was nothing major, just this weird dull green tinge on the hair in certain shots, like when a sloth has algae in its fur. Like I said though, a quick adjustment and it ceased to be an issue.

I’m actually halfway through watching it beginning to end right now. This is without a doubt going to be my preferred version until 3.0.

Burned this to a disc this morning and looked at a few scenes on my TV. Just a minor quibble: I had the color temperature set to a neutral level on my screen (largely to compensate for the yellow in Harmy’s version), and at those settings fair hair tended to look a little greenish, most obviously Luke’s and some of the grey-haired imperial officers. Bumping the warmth up a little bit did the trick, but I thought that might be something you’d want to know.

Gah, was hoping this would have finished downloading by the time I got back from trivia, but no dice. I’d say I’ll check it out in the morning, but I know myself well enough to realize that I’m far more likely to stay up the extra two hours and be tired all day tomorrow.

EDIT: Finally got to take a look at it. Bravo. This is how Star Wars looks in my head.

(Well, give or take some of the teal on the Death Star, but that’s not nearly so bothersome now that the skin tones aren’t greenish).
